It was a Blue Sky (Ice Age) studio movie. When Disney bought Fox, they automatically got Blue Sky since it was owned by Fox. Disney execs didn't like the queer themes of the film and shut down production and shut down the studio as well since its last film flopped (Spies in Disguise). Some managed to salvage the film ,which was 75% done, by making a deal with Annapurna films and Netflix stepped in for the distribution. So in a way, this is Blue Sky 's swan song.
@arandomnamegoeshere8 сағат бұрын
I'm cautious about how much active resistance came from Disney on this film. They're targets of culture war bullshit for a reason. Being actively targeted by culture warrior grifters and politicians (but I repeat myself) could very well make them cautious about this flick even if they gave it any significant attention. The thing is - that Fox purchase was a massive mistake. It was a boat anchor going in to a lean time. Blue Sky hadn't produced any decent returns for some time. And Disney needed to stem the cashflow bleeding. Its not shocking that Blue Sky and anything under it got axed. IMHO they missed out. And I'm really glad another path was found. And you know what - at the end of the day, it might have ended up being a better path than the one they started on. But at the end of the day, Disney was just never a big part of the story.

FUN Note, The "The Tra La La Song (One Banana, Two Banana)" song used in the fight scene was also used in the fight scene with Hit Girl in the movie Kick-Ass. So I guess it can be called Chloë Grace Moretz's fight song.

Nimona was a blue sky creation but Disney shut down blue sky in the middle of production for nimona so Netflix ended up grabbing the rights too the movie and having it finished as a Netflix original It also would be neat if we eventually get more nimona stuff cause there's some cool and pretty dark stuff in the story

0:12 No, it started off with Blue Sky Animation Studios (Ice Age & Rio), but Disney brought them out in 2020 and disbanded Blue Sky, and we all know how homophobic Disney is, so they scrapped the movie instead of producing it because of the gay relationship in the movie. But, the creators got so much good feedback and outrage that they decided to drop it on Netflix.

I have to say, I feel bad for Gloreth. She wasn't evil, she was simply a young girl who fell victim to societal pressure from her neighbors and parents And considering how much of a lie the 'official' history of Gloreth's encounter with the 'monster' was, it makes me wonder, how much else was a lie? Did Gloreth really found the Institute to fight monsters, or was she used as a figurehead and rallying point? Did the Institute start out with genuinely good intentions at the start, only to gradually become what it is in present time? One thousand years is a very long time for humans, after all. Facts become history, history becomes stories, stories become legends, and legends become myths. The only person who truly knows for sure is Nimona, and I wonder if she doesn't repress a lot of her memories, just to keep from being overwhelmed. As Omni said, Nimona likes to live in the moment.

And i mean, yeah, it definitely has themes of racism... it is quite literally about being trans and lgbt+ in general. there are even trans flags hidden in banners and lights throughout the film. they still don't see the trans themes, though that makes sense considering they pushed me back into the closet when i came out to them 5 years ago

Based on a comic by Trans creator ND Stevenson (who also worked on the She Ra series). They have a voice cameo in the film as the cereal dragon. When you know the originator is trans, the constant refrain of "I'm Nimona" hits so much harder.

I just realized something that doesn't make any fucking sense: why does Goldenloin believe the director that's Nimona shapeshifting to look like and frame her in the recording when he's also in the video and he knows that wasn't him? She admitted to her crime and attempted to murder him not knowing it was Nimona and that's all in the recording. They did just not think about this? Am I losing my mind? 😂
