As if this wasn't enough, in episode 1, the series acknowledged that gay people exist.

I mean to be fair, we have no idea if she means in a romantic way or not. I'd say that the way the story is going, she meant love as in love for an idol or someone she deeply admires. Hopefully next episode will clear it up. Update: The anime is over now and this scene is never brought up again. I think this is a pretty good indication that the scene was not romantic. It was Nina letting Momoka know that her music and hard work saved her, and that no matter what, she will be her ally. There have also been multiple Japanese watchers since this scene explain that it was not romantic. If you pay attention to the story beats of the anime, romance wouldn't really make sense here. Gonna severely miss this anime each week. Hopefully we get more in the future.

OH SHIT SON THAT HAND/HEAD ANIMATION WITH THE CAMERA MOVE AT 0:03 WAS THAT *GOOD* SHIT. I legit love this show's technical work. They've finally worked out that using the full framerate and treating CGI as its own medium works better than trying to pretend it's 2d, and the 3d animators here all clearly know what they're doing and care. It's CRIMINAL that this just got passed over by all the streaming services because this is a legitimate technical marvel for Japanese animation.

SPOILERS for Jellyfish Can't Swim at Night at the end of my message To be fair, I can see it being not romantically AND romantically at the same time. I'm not sure yet. I thought it was romantic when I watched it first, but I could be wrong. Apart from the fact that Nina add the 告白(kokuhaku - confession) part at the end after saying she liked Momoka-san, that could be taken as a romantic confession especially for non-native Japanese speakers, there is also the fact that Nina's cheeks were a little red I think, plus the way she looked at her when she says 告白 that was taken by me at face value like she was romantically confessing. But I'm no expert of the subtext in Japanese conversations, so it only is my opinion. One thing is almost sure SPOILERS for Jellyfish Can't Swim at Night at the end of my message Kano and Mahiru relationship in Jellyfish is.

Im a little concerned about this anime. Just cause 1 its 3d even tho the animation is amazing especially ep 11 but theres definitely a stigma against 3d in the anime community, and I doubt the story can wrap up in 2 more episodes, its an anime orginal so if it never gets a season 2 its not like you can turn to the source material. On top of that its not popular at all. Hopefully im wrong tho.

I was kind of confused by this, but she is pretty comfortable with it, so I don't know. 17 is pretty mature, especially for Nina, who is living by herself and even has a job. But on the other side through the anime Nina behaves herself like a rebellious child, so yeah, she is definitely still a teenager. So, their relationships are not established yet, but I think Momoka is like a parent figure to her at this point, and this scene is more not a love confession, but a sign of appreciation from Nina.
