What is wonderful is that she and Ian had such a wonderful relationship, beyond just a romantic one- that they WANT to be friends. It also speaks volumes about who they are as people. Both Ian and Nina are amazing human beings and so is Nikki, who I have adored since she did the movie Thirteen. Above all else, this speaks MULTITUDES about the love and security within Nikki and Ian’s relationship. She is not threatened by Ian being friends with his ex girlfriend and took the time to get to know her on her own merits and became friends with her. What I have always found strange, (irrelevant of whom the couple are), is why you would end a relationship purely on the basis that the other is not yet ready for marriage or children? I do understand if it is a female whom desperately wants children and obviously has a very limited biological clock, (unlike men). The urge to be a parent is so often a powerful one for many. It must have taken both of them huge strength and courage to be honest with themselves too. Not just each other. But I guess if a man desperately wants to marry and make a Family, he has to make a difficult choice based upon the female biological clock and level of commitment. But I do not feel a woman is necessarily any less committed because she is not ready to become a mother or get married. Her Love is no less powerful. So I guess I do find it hard to understand how tiu can leave someone you deeply love so profoundly, and which is mutual, to only marry another whom is willing to marry and have a child. And I'm not inferring he doesn't love her either. You can love more than one person just as you love all your children if more than one. (Albeit everyone has a favourite but most will never admit that). Whilst nobody else opinion but theirs is relevant, they do clearly love each other and are very much part of each others lives. And it is wonderful that this is fully embraced by his wife especially. Very few women could accept what was/is clearly a pure unbreakable love for the woman he left just because she was not ready for a child or marriage. It did not mean her love was lessened by that honesty. Or his. I think that is what people don't fully grasp and hence are confused by what's not any of our business anyway. Irrelevant of who the couple are. I have never quite understood how a man could leave a woman he loves si profoundly just to marry another willing to do so and have a child. But then again, the man is also acutely aware of the female biological clock and the parental urge is a powerful and primal one. He loves them both. It appears Nina only loves him because there do not appear to be/have been anyone of focus since. (I could be wrong). Love should be simple. Sadly it's mainly the opposite. Intricately complex and bewildering. That's why they're still focused upon after 8 years. No other couple would be. Thankfully he genuinely loves his wife dearly. Unlike some others out there whom do the same. It is beautiful that these three remain close. I think Nikki is clever in realising that acting the opposite would have possibly been disastrous. Plus she's naturally a lovely person too whom does not appear to have a mean or selfish bone in her body. Just kindness and love. It is great that no love has really been lost completely for all. But I don't see Nina loving anyone else equally, if at all.
