Wonderful rendition of this song, so natural Also, the piano on the cover is made up with the letters of her name! ♥️

This is the gold standard for this Hoagy Carmichael gem. She feels the song because she's felt the experience.

It's the surprise with Nina. You can pretty well guess what she will feel like, but you can't imagine just what she'll sound like, even up to the last tinkling note.

Me too ! Twice… I also remember her struggles with talking audience. Can you imagine having the opportunity to see and hear Nina Simone and drunkenly babbling?

Great piece to think to. The hush of this song feels so immense you almost have to hold your breath. It seems to make everything pause.

I have yet to hear a "bad" version of this song. From Della Reese's almost carefree approach, Billie Holiday's wistful attitude, and now to Nina and Annie Ross's painful and pensive musings of regret should have made Mr Carmichael smile and say to himself, "They sang it the way I wanted it to be interpreted," or, as the great gospel singers, the Famous Davis Singers sang, "He'll Understand and Say, 'Well Done'".
@karlgarson2982 жыл бұрын
Well, the Diana Krall version pushes the piece into a requiem that is something of a joke.
