I think you'll find Beyoncé has not yet relinquished her claim to this song, and while the original recording is very familiar to us by now, I suggest you seek out some of the live performances she has given of it down the years, which demonstrate a continually evolving approach, and are richly illustrative of the emotional and expressive range and power that you seem to imply, rather casually, that she lacks. If you like Angelina Jordan's version, that's fine, but I do not think you elevate by being patronisingly dismissive of Beyoncé, who if you are not aware, is one of the greatest voices, and one of the greatest performers of her or any other generation, who has also created a rich catalogue of original and iconic songs that are indelibly associated with her name. For example, this one. Your comment read strangely like a press release for most of its length, but then suddenly veered sharply adrift of reality towards the end. It seemed less a point of view than ill-informed. It's not really fair to compare AJ at 18, with Beyonce whose creative vitality, after 25 years at the top of the industry, remains undimmed. But if you insist ... I would respectfully suggest that, realistically, AJ still has quite some way to go before she eclipses Mrs Carter. My concern for her is that given the 'mature' voice that she has been cultivating since she was 6, what will she sound like when she is actually as old as she sounds now. Older voices often betray their age through damage, wear or lifestyle choices, so if AJ's voice has this 'older' quality, is it because she has already incurred damage through trying to sound old? She uses fry more than one would expect, her rasp is pronounced, and she's not particularly agile in her runs. That's worrying in so young a voice, most singers have not reached anything like their prime at 18. If her voice declines, how will she deal with that, if her adult life is less satisfying than her childhood seemed to promise?

At every age of Angelina, she doesn't take steps in her voice and performances, she takes huge giant leaps. All along the way I think this is a hit and I'm going to hear this on the radio or see it on MTV. Everything she's done is far superior than what's out there by the big artists, and yet nothing. Even with Toby Gad at her side, nothing. Has anyone heard this on the airwaves yet? Thank you Nina for your expert and heartfelt reactions to Angelina. No matter how good a song may be it doesn’t automatically become a hit or appear on the charts or radio. Promotion is one big key and we don’t how much, if at all this has been promoted. A new release by a well known established star is automatically going to get a lot of listens. Also an upcoming new release by a big star is big news and highly anticipated .For a relatively unknown artist it is much more difficult to get noticed, especially how the music industry works today. With each individual song from a new album now available for streaming or downloading these days, each of the songs on an album from a very popular artist will probably make the charts, not just a couple of singles like the old days That leaves less room for other artists or other music. There are some other good young artists kind of in the same situation as Angelina. When there is finally some real promotion of Angelina and her music maybe she will start to really get noticed by the general public and her star will rise.

The music industry is in the money making business and Angelina is a gold mine. They are not promoting her for an unusual reason. I've got an inkling that one of their powerful artist is keeping their thumb on the label for fear of losing their place on the top. Angelina is way to good for this to be happening, there's no one like her in the businesses. The good thing is, I don't think AJ is in to big of a hurry. She's more patient than I am.

She needs another viral moment, it's bound to happen, and she's now in a spot to keep any and all momentum going forward. If they would promote her, and they aren't for an unusual reason, that reason is Angelina and her team. Who maybe don't mind the grind and aren't rushing things, trying to gain a more natural traction for a time first maybe. Don't be silly, she's amazing, but no one can keep her down with any underhanded nonsense. If we want to help we just engage her official content like maniacs as best we can. Let's be ready to push her next single or album as best we can, at all times. The most likely reasons for a lack of big money promotion is Angelina and her team's wishes, or a certain number she has to hit to unlock promotional teirs. Which we hear is more how they do things now adays. But yes she's the best. Once she has people's ears, respect, anticipation and time in their lives then for sure she's got it all and then some. I don't doubt that big money knows they have a gold mine. Whether times and tastes have changed or not.

Singers with a fraction the talent, skill, tone and texture make airplay with no fanfare, they just appear on the radio. The family may be pulling the reins back, but I can't imagine why. She's done with school, she's over eighteen, she has millions of adoring fans around the world. I'll say it again, at seventy years old I've never known a singer so spectacular not being promoted and fast tracked to the public. And don't kid yourself, there's one particular artist with unparalleled financial success who could easily have the clout to hinder the advancement of a label mate who has superior abilities.

Very nice and insightful reaction. The other video of the song on Angelina’s channel has a different feel. In it she is walking the streets of London. It’s the same vocal track as this one but with different, more contemporary instrumentation. The more stripped down instrumentation (just piano and strings) allows one to hear the details in her voice more clearly. FYI, one of Angelina’s songs will appear in the upcoming Netflix movie A Family Affair starring Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron and Kathy Bates. It premieres June 28. In a post about it on Angelina’s IG, Love Don’t Let Me Go is playing in background so that may be the song. It would be interesting to know how this came about. It could be just a snippet of the song that plays in the distance in the movie but it’s still exciting.

What amazes me (one of the things that amazes me) about Angelina is her ability to switch genres with such ease and authenticity. The live set with Bad Valentine also includes a live version of this song. You are right: live doesn't lose anything with AJ. But with all great jazz singers she adds or changes things with each live performance. The thing that never changes is her ability to communicate the emotional core of the songs she sings.

Another fabulous, informative reaction. For something else with Toby and Angelina, I highly, highly recommend “Bad Valentine,” the new original song co-written by the two of them. Be sure to use the version with sound from the mixing board, on the James Thiel channel. Another beautiful arrangement, just cello, violin, and piano, and Angelina’s vocal is off the charts stupendous. Can’t wait to see your reaction to that one!

Last night in LA Toby had a performance called Piano Diaries Live. The intent was to have performances with some of the artists that appeared on his album. He had hoped Angelina would be able to perform but wasn’t sure if she could . We never heard a confirmation if she was going to be able to make it or not. She has been in Europe the past few weeks. It’s a shame if she wasn’t able to go especially since it was a charity event. It would have been another great opportunity for her.

Tony seems to be able to build instrumentation around her voice that still keeps her voice very front and center like a single instrument. This is a wonderful song. And when you are being asked to sing alongside the orginal co-writer (Toby Gad), who is playing the piano here than you are doing something right (to say the least). I do like this version more than the second version, but that has to do with the different instrumentals and is just a matter of taste. You absolutely should have a look on James Tiel's KZbin channel as well: lot's of informal music videos with Angelina on that channel. It is kind of a treasury there.
