Niner Jet 9 - A Worthy Trail Bike?

Is the Niner Jet 9 a worthy trail bike? Does it stand up to all the hype? In this video I share my review of the 2020 Jet 9 RDO, all things I love and hate about this bike... and it's 95% love. This was the 3 star build with Shimano XT drivetrain and DT Swiss m1900 wheels. This 29'er is definitely on my short list as on of the most exciting trail bikes out there. I live in NYC so it is hard to bike in open areas but I recently found some good trails in Central Park and am looking for a bike. Your review of this bike is great and helps with the search for a bike thanks for sharingg

thanks for the review. i have the 2 star setup im 5'7' ride a small frame. i like the ride except on the steep uphill the front end gets to wobbly.

Agreed, it’s a great ride with that one trade off on the steep sections. Keep the rubber side down!

Check out the Pivot trail 429! Very similar to the Jet 9. Great bike!!

I bought same exact build in June. Agree the grips were junk! The front does tend to get very light on steeps but I got use to it. Got a great deal at Bike Bling in San Diego.

I have this same bike. Bought last December. ZERO issues after 1000 miles of hard Arizona rocky trails. No creaks, no adjustments, nothing. Best part is I got it for $3990 delivered after dealer made a mistake on my original order. Would still be worth the list asking price, but then any bike over $4 k you have to really ask yourself is it worth it? Its still just a bicycle.... good review..

I have the 2014 Jet 9 Carbon and the geometry is more race oriented. No lifting of the front on the steepest climbs imaginable. Only 100mm travel, which is plenty for even much rougher trails than your video, but 120mm would make it a bit more versatile. Curious what you ended up with?

Nick, enjoyed your review on the Jet 9. I live in the desert and ride the mountains in Phoenix, Tucson, Sedona and St George. Therefore, I am looking for more travel and seriously looking to purchase a Rip 9 3 Star build. Looking to change the grips and installing One Up nylon or Crank Bros Stamp 1 pedals along with the AXS bluetooth shifter. Your thoughts and comments would be greatly appreciated. Blue skies, Jg

Hi John, thanks for watching! I’ve ridden the Rip9 as well, but haven’t made a video yet as I feel I need to take it to some gnarlier terrain than my local trails offer. The Rip was a great ride too, but I felt a bit too much travel for the trails I was on... but in a proper trail for that bike I think it would be great! Niner has changed their builds a bit over the last year and I think the 3 star build is SRAM GX and the 4 star is Shimano XT if I’m not mistaken. I do prefer the XT drivetrain, but it may not be worth the extra cost. The 3 star build is a good balance of cost/performance. I’d be happy to own the Rip9 if my trails were more burly! Best wishes.

@@johnglynn7795 It seemed pretty efficient for its size and weight. Compared to my XC race bike it of course felt slower, but in its class, I expect its quite competitive when climbing and descending.

Yeah, I’ve ridden the Tallboy before... very similar to my Epic. The Niner has a bit more fun factor IMO... but you really can’t go wrong with any of them. Your gonna love riding in Chatt soon! Welcome to the south.

I recently purchased the new 4 star build that was launched on September 1, was going to get a 3 star build, and the shop I am buying from had a rep that offered a 3.5 star build. the new 4 star build in the XT, with M1700 wheels, carbon bars, carbon cranks, kashima coated fox fork and shock. cant wait to get my hands on it. The new 3 star build comes with SRAM GX drivetrain and Sram brakes. Well it looks like they've changed it up a bit since I demo'd this bike. The 3 star is now SRAM GX at $5100 and the 4 star is Shimano XT at $5990, so now it's an $890 difference. But yeah, I prefer the Shimano XT build. ninerbikes.com/products/jet-9-rdo?variant=32890787659885
