Do you a have a quick reference for trails in Sedona that you would consider ebike worthy? Obviously most of the main mtb trails are off limit for emtb. Great film work and production on this btw!
@willbros14993 жыл бұрын
What I gleaned from this is...they built an E MTB that comes with suspension that doesn't allow for the 59 lbs bike to ridden aggressively without substantial upgrades. Not sure of the cost of the bike up front, but it seems like they would provide something that would be a little beefier in the outset, rather than requiring swapping things out. I like the idea of the big battery and powerful motor, but when you get up in that weight range, what's the point if the suspention doesn't support the weight? It would seem to make a lot more sense to go with something like the new Orbea Rise with the battery extender that could be used on longer epic rides, evne if it's 140-150mm travel.
@JeffKendallWeed3 жыл бұрын
Well Charles, most folks would probably be just fine with most of ten stock parts here- but I can only guess about that. It's hard to find 180mm travel ebikes, and the costs and weights are already going to be up there. The fork ugprade from the stock 35mm (Lyrik and Yari are 35) stanchion to the 38 was a godsend. I haven't tried any of the lighter, minimalists eMTBs, but we don't really have places for those here- yet. We need super bomber eMTBs for our rugged but motorized riding spots.
@willbros14993 жыл бұрын
@@JeffKendallWeed ...Yeah, and I get your point. You're not worried about taking that bike on one of your epic rides like you were taking at the end of the summer, because you're not allowed to. Bummer. I'm sure the 38 felt a lot better on that bike at that weight, and I guess if riders knew that going into it, they could sell the stock fork and upgrade right out of the gate without too much out of pocket expense. Either way....nice review, and it sounds like you have a good time on it!

Great review. I'm interested in these beefy E-bikes. But I'm also hoping you'll try one of the superlights, like the Turbo Levo SL or the new Orbea (~ 40 lbs). They hess power, but they ride downhill like a normal trail bike, and to your point, the suspension is great (at least on the SL, the one I tried).
@JeffKendallWeed3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Koho! I had the chance to get a lighter eMTB but actually passed. I am gong to focus more on regular bicycles moving forward. I'd like to have an ebike in the quiver, but my focus has gotta be on traditional bikes for access reasons. Not much eMTB trail in Bellingham or Sedona.

Jeff- I think you are great and I appreciate your content. I want to thank you for setting a good example with the ebikes. Thank you for respecting posted rules and supporting the local trail group. It means a lot and deserves a mention. 👍

these companies need to stop skimping out on tires. How you gonna put an exo casing tire on a 59 pound bike. so many bikes these days come with guide re's. 2 of the bikes i've bought in the past 2 years have them and i just don't like them. Prefer shimano xt's any day.
@pauleddy51463 жыл бұрын
Umm, with the money laid out to get the bike, then put 3K in for "? proper" suspension, that's a pretty expensive e-bike. So buy the frameset, and build your own is the reality . . . ? Everything is OK except everything. Nice, I'll pass.
@JeffKendallWeed3 жыл бұрын
Paul, unfortunately eMTB framesets aren't really available. It's pretty much a must to get them as a complete. Until the market is better developed, I have a feeling it'll continue like that. The main upgrade I did was the fork, the brakes are personal preference for the wet PNW. Tires are a universal must though.
@maxbrap3 жыл бұрын
I ended up buying the lowest spec Altitude Powerplay and replacing everything. Framesets are vaporware, they sell every ebike that hits the store around me in WA, I consider myself lucky to even get one in XL. There probably isn't going to be much of anything until spring '22
