Ningguang Explained | Genshin Impact Lore

This video contains spoilers for the Genshin Impact quest A New Star Approaches so if you haven't completed the whole questline and don't want to know what happens, refrain from watching this video.
In this video we'll be looking into the lore and story of Ningguang, her background, her personality and the relationships she has with the people of Liyue Harbor. She's one of my favourite characters and it felt right to make a video about her during the Lantern Rite Festival as she is arguably the face of Liyue.

Apologies for the quality of some footage not being too great, I had to grind an alt account on my potato pc to get to AR35 for the Jade Chamber cutscenes so it's not as smooth as I'd like. Shouldn't be a problem from now on though.
Also the UI appearing at the top right on some scenes is something new Mihoyo changed on the camera, I hope they change it back to just being the Genshin logo again but hopefully it's not too distracting.

Funny how Zhongli used to be the richest person in Teyvat but because of his lack of motivation he became a poor man. Ningguang on the other hand was a poor girl but she has a lot of motivation that made her the richest in possibly all of Teyvat.

It occured to me that the jeweler girl and the little food enthusiast girl in modstadt might've been "one of her people" as Ningguang puts it. They're the only Liyue people I've seen in the city, and they're both positioned near the tavern, a place where people (and knights) gather frequently to drink and talk. Mondstadt people love to drink; It wouldn't be surprising if they heard something from a couple of drunk knights, or just heard some talk in general, in a social-gathering area.

i really do love the theory surrounding her being guizhong’s reincarnation. all coincidences aside, the original people of liyue harbor were guizhong’s people weren’t they? and zhongli took them to the harbor after she died to protect them.. i think it would be quite poetic for ningguang to be her reincarnation because in a sense she has returned to protect her people

It's becoming one of my favourite theories and I half expect there to be some more obvious hints towards it actually being the case in the future. Yeah you're right, they moved from the Guili Plains with Zhongli after her death about 3,700 years ago. It would be quite poetic and her phoenix motif could be another hint towards it being the case. I have a feeling we'll get some sort of character "upgrades" as the story progresses such as Childe with his Delusion/Foul Legacy. Maybe we'll get a story quest for Ning where she solves the Memory of Dust's puzzle that Zhongli has been unable to crack and unlocks some of her former powers as Guizhong. I know Mihoyo have done a similar character upgrade kinda thing in Honkai so it's not out of the realm of possibility.

It's curious that her symbol is the Phoenix, and Rex Lapis took the form of a Dragon - which together symbolizes the balance needed for married life in Chinese Mythology. Nothing much to think about here, its just the shipper in me I guess lol

She has such a special place in my heart. Even before getting her I knew she was going to be my favorite character. Even as new characters come out and I gain some I still can’t break away from Ningguang as my main unit. It’s like if they don’t accommodate her team I discard them. I sometimes forget she’s a 4 star. But it’s more than that, I’ve just come a long way with her. From throwing weak rocks to nuking whole bosses in seconds. She’s my comfort character. That's one I haven't looked into too much yet but reading it now, it definitely sounds a lot like Khaenri'ah with the mention of darkness and monsters. The clothing isn't something I'd considered but the style and colour scheme matches Dainsleif, she even has an eyepatch like Kaeya. The 13,000 year lineage caught my attention - if the heir from the battle pass cutscene was from Celestia and then became the Queen of the Abyss then this seems to line up with that. The part about her destroying and resetting the universe reminds me a little of The Sustainer of Heavenly Principles too so that theory of the BP heirs being Dainsleif & The Unknown God could have a little more weight to it. Very interesting bit of lore I'm glad you brought up.

Ah yeah Jiangxue, he's so interesting. I thought he was going to be the yaksha that survived other than Xiao but after getting more lore recently, he doesn't really resemble any of them. I wonder if visions deactivate once they're abandoned. Diluc threw his away but Kaeya returned it to him a few years later and it seemed to still be activated. Unless it deactivated upon abandonment and then reactivated upon him re-obtaining it.

@@TheLaughingManLore well according to some fan wikis..he seems to be one of the adeptis who fought during the archon war..his comrades volunteered to be turned into statue by Rex Lapis since they already served their purpose. Though there is one missing statue and it is believed that he is that missing statue. The statues that I'm talking about is in the same island where he is located.

Good thing i really didnt give up on building her when i started playing this game, was hoping to get 5 stars instead, but i got her and was curious how she`ll play out, and i was stuck at some point on how to build her , but after some research she later become one of my best dps 4 star chara (to the point that i couldnt care anymore about 5star charas), and she was the first chara i had friendship level reach to lvl 10, and knowing her story and past i even like her more than ever. I do not regret reaching her to c6. If only the friendship level wasn't capped to lvl10 i could've had raised it even more, lol.

Ningguang can also create projectile out of dust as seen in her charge attack. Guizhong is the Goddess of Dust. Ningguang is also an inventor and pioneer as seen with her engineering the the floating Jade Chamber along with the Ballista used by the Adepti during the Osiai encounter. Guizhong is also an Inventor and innovator of her time, making the automated Ballista on the Guilli plain. There's also the fact that Zhongli has been watching Ning in her younger years. I don't know but that's too much coincidences if you ask me...

I think Ninguang is probably a lesbian, as when she gives a birthday gift to Aether, the male traveler, it's only to request that he deliver the gift to the intended recipient: Lumine, the female traveler and Aether's twin sister. I also wouldn't be surprised to learn that Ninguang is biologically related to Razor, the wolf boy from Mondstat, as they both have a form of albinism with uncharacteristically white hair for their young ages and ruby red eyes. We also don't know much about either character's back story besides Ninguang probably started out as a Liyue street kid and Razor was abandoned and later raised by the wildlife in the forests of Wolvendom.

New to this game, and new to Ningguang - and in just a day's worth of deep diving into her lore and the ongoing fan theory of her being a reincarnation.....I am truly on board. I've already downloaded this game to my Steam account, and once I find time to play, I'm going to really enjoy it. This lore is great, it is colorful, and it has real depth! Rex is already my favorite, and seeing so many ships between these two has me sold. What a power couple, and even more so if she was in fact, a reincarnation or even an amnesiac version of Guizhong (sp?).

As interesting as it would be, I kinda hope Ningguang isn’t supposed to be a reincarnation. Most of Zhongli’s stories involve him sealing/burying old friends, and I think it would be odd since the age of gods being over is a recurring theme. I want zhongli to be able to overcome his past and enjoy mortal life, and I think it would fit the main idea of the story is Ningguang is an example of human ambition and success.

Same could be stated about Keqing tho. And she's actually honest and humble, always putting her work, Liyue and the citizens well-being before her own, unlike Ningguang. I mean Ningguang is cool and all, but she is way too sus. You never know what's going on in her mind. She's always playing mind games with ppl so i'm not very fond of her. So imo, Keqing is way more trustworthy and admirable. She's very transparent since she always speaks from her mind and heart, and she got to where she is today through honest and hard work. Not through scams and mind games like Ning. My opinion ofc.

@@keylimepie3602 It's a board game she invented and changes the rules to often that I think is kind of like Monopoly in our World, people don't understand how to play it but buy it for the models because they look so well made. I wanted to find out more about what she was selling too but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be in-game anywhere to find out about. Unless it's hidden really really well like a random NPC's dialogue. Lots of the lore is incomplete and spread out all over the place so I've just tried to group it together in these videos so it's easier to find out about. I'll definitely do update videos if we find out any extra lore worth mentioning in the future.
