I have mine for a year now. I don't know what kind of plastic smell you talk about. I use mine almost every day. Maybe it's because it's a American version and I have a European one? Mine has these modes: speedi meals, steam air fry, steam bake, steam, grill, air fry, bake / roast, dehydrate, sear / saute and slow cook. You have to choose the correct one and you can't just throw things in and think magic happens. I would have done my steak in the steam air fry setup. Fill in some water on the bottom put in the grid on the bottom and let the steam make the meat juicy while the heat from above would grill it. You should have some distance to the coil that's why I said grid on the bottom of the pot or it might burn. It also could help to quarter the time and every quarter of the time, flip the meat so it gets cooked evenly. Now to the rice thing. You put in way too little water in. You always can let it cook couple of minutes longer if there is too much water, but if it's not enough you get burned shit. It also sits on the bottom of the pot means it doesn't swim and if you don't pause couple of times and move it around it's obvious it will burn on the pots bottom. You would have a better result putting in the rice first for like 5-10 minutes in the speedi meals mode with more water then put the meat on top of the rice and couple of times every like 5 minutes open and move things around, the coils will always grill from above so flip the meat couple of times. This machine is very useful but you can't expect magic to happen. You have also to use your brain a little bit. It's a great machine if you understand how it works. Some modes just use the heat from below, some just from the coil above, some both, some let the climate inside, some blow constant the hot air out.

Good question. Wouldn’t surprise me if the American one was made cheaper and that’s why it stinks like burning plastic so bad. I think if anyone uses their brain a bit they will realize everything ninja makes it’s unnecessary and cheap and crappy. Enjoy your borg rice machine

I like the balance between this review and the biased ones. I didn't buy the speedi after watching reviews because it looks very inconvenient to pull it out. I bought the ninja foodi 15 in 1 with the thermometer (I think it's called 14 in 1 in the US and has fewer functions, but whatever) and this thing is AMAZING. It has a pressure cooker, air fryer, and steam meals (same thing as speedi meals, I'm sure). I can send you one of my recipes, which you can try in the speedi. Cant help with the timings because I cook by temperature, but anyway...: Ingredients: Pasta/rice, 170g Water, 300ml Chopped tomatoes, 1 can Passata (optional), half a cup Cream, 2 tablespoons Fresh/dried basil, 10 leaves/2 teaspoons Salt, 2 teaspoons Sugar, 1/2 teaspoon Chicken breasts, 2 pieces Steps: Chop the fresh basil. Add the pasta, tomatoes, passata, basil, cream, salt, and water to the pot. Mix well. Place the chicken breasts on the metal rack in a high position and insert the thermometer. Set the switch to the middle position, turn on the "steam meals" mode at 160 degrees, and set the thermometer to "chicken." Once finished, remove the rack, stir the pasta, place the chicken on the pasta, and let it sit for 5 minutes with the lid closed. There's also a "speedi meal builder" or something like that on their website. I haven't tried it myself, but it should work as well.

If you use the sear/saute function its like a frying pan, you need to remove the insert and cook things directly in the bottom of the pot (its the setting you can leave the lid open on, its not an air fry setting and only cooks from the bottom). Im not 100% sure but i think the speedi meals are usually 15 minutes or so, not 30. There is a bit of a learning curve for sure, the cookbook that comes with it helps a lot. We use ours almost daily.

@@TheLastHonestInfluencer a grill ( or griller) is a heat source above the item to be cooked. Also known as a broiler. The Ninja you tested, has the heat source above, so it is a griller / broiler. And it had the fan oven. Which part of the instructions did you read? Wrapping the meat will stew the meat in it's own juices at a much lower temperature, no matter what temperature you set the machine to. Set it high...... and the meat will only be boiling and steaming at a much lower temperature... 100 C or 212 F (If wrapped in foil) And it will be shit, as you mentioned. Maybe you need to bake / roast the meat (unwrapped) to dry cook it, then finish it off with a blast of high heat for 5 to 10 minutes, to darken the outside. Had it for like 10 years and it's great to be honest but was kinda looking to 'upgrade'. One thing the halogen oven cannot do is something like a pizza because there isn't a heating element at the bottom so is impossible to get a crispy base. Otherwise love it though especially being able to easily see how it is cooking with the glass and all. any meat wrapped tightly in foil will cook to 100 degrees C or 212 degrees F. The water in the meat can only get to that temperature. So you will have boiled/steamed meat. you can lift the tray out with you bare hands if it's cold. When trays are very hot I use other methods, like tongs, oven mitts etc. Nothing unusual about that. If you need to lift the basket / tray out while it is hot, with your bare hands, you will need to acclimatise them, by practicing and slowing working up in temperatures that your fingers can tolerate. Similar to welders being able to pick up hot metal without tongs etc, after years in the business.

I just ordered one discounted on Prime day. TBH, I already have a convection toaster oven and a conventional built-in oven. I had been avoiding air fryers because I assume it's only a little more airflow than my convection toaster oven. I really picked this up because we're trying to eat more fish, and rather than wait a couple of hours for a rice cooker to cook up brown rice, I figure I might be able to use this on steam for about 20 minutes on the brown rice, add some veg below, then steam and crisp the fish up top for 10 minutes or so. I don't know what kind of rice you were using, but I think the ratio was correct but it definitely went too long. From what I've seen cooking chicken only needs around 15 minutes. All of these companies want to market their product as some kind of game changer, but you have to be realistic and avoid the hype. Most of the recipes I've seen for this are either an all in one meal with grain, air fryer (with steam usually), and then a bunch of sautee and other stuff that I would only cook on here if it was the only thing I had (in an RV maybe).

The speedi awesome, you’re just terrible at using it. I’ve had it a year and love it.

And not to mention i think its one of the ugliest designs I've seen in a really long time. Like not even over the top or something, more like they stopped in the middle of the design process and left that one side unfinished with raw open edges. Can't describe it much better, hard to find the right words. Kitchen stuff aesthetics barely bothers me enough to even consider mentioning it. But this one really is something else... 😅 Gute Nacht! 🙃)

That is the perfect description of the design of this thing. You nailed it bang on 🤣 Thank you for your comment!

All cooking appliances you have to use and find the best way to cook with them. There is more than one way to cook steak. I suggest you read the instruction book and recipe book that comes with the Ninja. The problem is not the Ninja, but the problem is you.

@robertbell4455Ай бұрын
@@TheLastHonestInfluencer I was not saying you are retarded. I was just saying I disagree with your review. `Which` magazine said it was the best multi function oven they tested. And they are not paid to promote products.

Agree 100%. I’ve tried 2 Ninja products. Wouldn’t use if given to me. Always smelled like the wires were burning.
@TheLastHonestInfluencer8 ай бұрын
Thank you! How do other people not notice or care about that crazy burning wire smell!? I’ve watched so many ninja product demonstrations and none of them mention it at all…makes you wonder.
@TheLastHonestInfluencer8 ай бұрын
This really is the only real review of the Speedi on KZbin. The rest are professional product demonstrations by salespeople with the word review in the title. How misleading 💩
@colonelfustercluck4867 күн бұрын
do they demonstrate 'Steak a la Foil"? That can only steam or boil within the foil. No matter what you do with the temperature settings. If you want to cook it, unboiled..... do something different. That's like giving a review of a gasoline car, but putting diesel in the tank. And then calling it shit. The problem is with your cooking method. Not the appliance.
