She spent season 3 being controlled by shredder's brain worms and then spent the first half of season 4 being dead after the world got destroyed so she has only just recently gotten back to normal. And to answer your question, yes she talks with splinter and yes he tries to connect with her but she is hell bent on taking down shredder and splinter doesn't want her to.

It's cool to see Karai's snakes skin at work because in the fan fiction I'm working on Shredder shoved her entire hand in a vat of hot coals to force info out of Donatello. Then Shredder says Tiger Claw should ensure she's ready to go as her alter ego and her snake power helps her heal.

Karai was an overrated character on the 2012 show. Her backstory is incredibly sad but she was so focused on getting revenge against the Shredder that she missed out on the opportunity to reconnect with her father. Splinter desperately wanted to get to know Karai but all she cared about was killing Shredder. And I understand why because Shredder not only murdered her mother, he kidnapped her and raised her to be a weapon, filling her head with lies about her true father, mutating and brainwashing her. She had every right to be furious but she was going about it the wrong way. Karai couldn't beat Shredder on her own, she couldn't the first time. Instead of accepting the help of her new family, she willingly abandoned them and never even got the chance to reconnect with her father because he was murdered by the Shredder. I have little sympathy for Karai because she should have known better. Like she said herself, she wasn't a little kid anymore.

I think they burnt the money because it's kind of like destroying what the Shredder had created. Since the money is used for illegal financial operations (Part of the Shredder's operations and empire), destroying the money would thus mean that... When they burn the money, it would be like destroying a huge part of the Shredder's legacy, hence destroying what he had started and created.

I know I did a double take when they mentioned the Nightwatcher, I quickly racked my brain trying to remember if they ever did anything with that in this series or if that was just a sly reference to the movies. Being a huge fan of the 2K3 series(Flash Forward not withstanding) I have enjoyed seeing references to that series. But for me, this is currently the superior Turtles television series over all.
