I’m currently in Tokyo for a week, and these 2 videos with you and oriental pearl are lifesavers. You two have made my trip a lot smoother, and I feel more confident. I especially appreciated the train lingo. I hadn’t heard it, but I got lost yesterday, and it helped immensely. Thank you for the help. I’m so grateful.

Ninja Monkey and OrientalPearl, Your content is fantastic! Then editing and writing is enjoyable to watch, and I especially appreciate NinjaM's inclusion of video demonstrations of what's been taught. Are you both consider creating a series "Japanese for Tourists." ? Hope to see this as a regular video topic. If you can both find time, I think a bi-monthly video would be a great addition to both channels. You could alternate posting new videos between both your channels to ensure fairness. Keep it up! 💪

It's always fun filming and learning with Oriental Pearl.. I hope to expand creating these a few a year focused on tourists. Oriental Pearl is busy running a successful and demanding channel so I always appreciate her time and it would be very difficult to film many of these (especially since I don't live in Japan!)

I just got back from my trip to Japan and I want to say Thank You, Thank You, Thank You for all your posts for travelers to Japan. I did my research and learned some phrases and proper etiquette and did it help me. It made my trip much more enjoyable and stress free. One thing I would like you to discuss in another video is bringing money to Japan. I learned that cash is still king in Japan so we brought lots of cash (maybe a little too much). I would like you to address how much one should bring and which types to have. We brought every denomination but we soon discovered the the 2000 yen is not a common currency and we even got strange looks from cashiers when we tried to pay with them.
@NinjaMonkeyguy2 ай бұрын
hehe yes the 2000 yen note is like the unicorn note.. you might get surprised looks but I've never had issues spending it (unless its at a auto till or vending machine)

Every country I go to I try to learn at least counting 1-10 and the essentials, drinks, restrooms, hubs/hotels etc. Smart phones have really changed this with maps, notes, translators available.
@NinjaMonkeyguy2 ай бұрын
translator apps are good alternative but I'd say only 10% of the time for the harder things. You don't really want to put a phone in someones face for simple things which can be learnt like "this please" or "the bill" etc. I use translators for hard kanji words and in tricky situations where I need to communicate something very specific

Thanks! Really useful. I've been 3 times in just over a year with a 4th trip planned for next year, and some of these are new to me (eg the "1 more drink" which none of the Duolingo etc apps I've used daily for 4 years have taught me yet!). Irasshaimase - I always wondered how to react/say to that (just nodded my head ever so slightly but doing nothing is ok too it seems!)
