Nurses do not need to know this. However, if you want to be more competent than the majority of nurses then learn this. It's like a nurse knowing how to look at a CT and understand it. Useless in practice but you'll be a hell of a lot more competent and intelligent than the majority of nurses practicing. If you are an NP however, you should know all of this.
