-The tensor tympani acts to damp the noise produced by chewing. When tensed, the muscle pulls the malleus medially, tensing the tympanic membrane and damping vibration in the ear ossicles and thereby reducing the perceived amplitude of sounds.this muscle is tensed by the trigeminal nerve'smandibular branch -The eustachian tube (pharyngotympanic tube) connects the middle ear with the nasopharynx....... It aerates the middle ear system and clears mucus from the middle ear into the nasopharynx#### and it can equalize the pressure bet the atmosphere+middle ear via air coming out from eustach tube to the nasopharynx or reverse -Mastoiditis:-mastoid sinus can extend to the brain and affect lots of cranial nerves so if it doesn't drain into the nasal cavity it may drain into the middle ear -superior part of middle ear box is made of tegman tympani which is a very thin bone and if someone develops otitis media(middle ear infection) it can spread upwards to the tegman tympani and to the brain causing meningitis## -tensor val palatine tenses the soft palate and by doing so, assists the levator veli palatini in elevating the palate to occlude and prevent entry of food into the nasopharynx during swallowing,,may help equalize pp
