Considering that the 9 trails saved him from dying from the 8th gate, it would presumably mean he can do the 7th gate nearly indefinitely because of the regenerative power, and even the 8th gate could go for longer (though not indefinitely). I think people in the comments misunderstand the 8th gate. As Madara wanted to test its power and gai needed the help of: rock lee, Kakashi and Minato to land a hit on madara and that’s when Madara let him do it. Madara was almost just as afraid of Gai but he knew that he has his truth seeker orbs to defend against him which he did try to use against every single one of Gai's attacks. I'd have to say Gai was still stronger then Kakashi even after he got his temporary Susan'o. Madara was able to use a full Susan'o before he became the 10 tails Jinchuriki and Gai was able to almost kill him in his Jinchuriki mode. 7 gates Gai is an overkill. 8 gates is not necessary. Kakashi is not Obito, he can't become intangible, and Kamui is too slow to tag 7 gates Gai. He doesn't know how to use Izanagi, and even if he could it would be of a little use, since with Gai's 7 gates speed he could Poke out Kakashi's sharingan casually.

Kamui is too slow to tag 7 gates Gai is a nowhere assumption. Gai beats Kisame using 7th gate form with Hirudora through brute force, not even speed. And Kisame speed feat is not even as fast as Obito, who Kakashi can keep up. While I agree Gai 7th form has better damage output, there is nowhere showing that he can blitz Kakashi Kamui
