I'll offer 2 cents. I've studied budo, Combat Submission Wrestling, judo, MMA, boxing and Hapkido. After 20 years of doing security and law enforcement, with all the "do that in the cage" folks or the "do that on the street" people. Gang it's not the style of martial arts you do but how you personally train. Regardless of who you train with. Fighting on the street like in the cage is often an "Any given Sunday" thing. I've seen bad ass cage fighters taken out by street thugs because they took the thug lightly. I've seen black belts in BJJ get knocked out because they weren't prepared for getting hit. I've had black belt full contact karate fighters hold their own against Muy Thai and MMA folks. I've had to take down Meth heads and kids on speed who had no pain receptors working and survival was all about how I adapted the training I've been given. No one of us is perfect, if you're distracted going in you can get tagged or if you haven't been trained to adapt or you've never even had scenario training it can take a second to adjust. That's human error, not one style is superior.

Amen brother. I'm a fellow security guard. Whatever discipline/ defense/ tactic you use on the street, as long as you clock out uninjured after taking out your target, hopefully with minimal damage to both parties to prevent a lawsuit, that is what really matters. Sometimes it becomes a bloody mess, but the main thing to focus on is you survived and hopefully can still keep working without injury. Currently taking self defense at UFC gym 4 months 4 courses a month but I read a lot of judo and jiujutsu originates from Ninjutsu so started studying it. Some forms of Israeli based Krav Maga supposedly originated from Ninjutsu and evolved to the modern era. Ninjutsu is still useful if applied in a street fight, especially the escape tactics

Paul brought up a good point about what to do if your arm is broken during a fight. It depends on the nature of the break and pain tolerance/how quickly it numbs. It can be used like a weapon if you use your body to whip it appropriately if it is an internal break. Could probably do this with a torn rotator cuff as well. On the other hand if you have a compound fracture for instance, you might vomit and pass out from the pain and then be beaten to death. Stay safe training guys.

Yo tommy. This is one of the last trained ninjas in the world. One of this guys punches could flatten a pro fighter in a couple of seconds. Remember, this guy doesn't use brute force always. He knows where your pressure points are, and where to strike to bring on the most exhaustion and pain.

It never ceases to amaze me how many "fighting experts" comment on martial arts videos saying things like, "The attacker left his arm out for him to grab", "That woudent work in a real fight", and my favorite "If it were me I would kick his ass" These guys dont understand that these techniques cripple, maim, and Kill if done in uncontrolled circumstances. And the term "fair fight" does not exhist to REAL combat techniques. They are trained to do whatever it takes to win as fast as possible.

see that's the beauty of styles like that. in demos it looks like flowery strikes and arm movements for no reason. whereas in actuality those movements aren't strikes, they are counters. the "Prettiest" move in the first form is designed to block a strike, fracture the arm and dislocate the jaw in a fluid motion. just one example. most of those pretty moves are doing multiple things at once, which is why the prettier styles are usually the more advanced or more difficult. body mechanics are fun

the difference between this and the kickboxing you mentioned earlier is kickboxing is a hard style, designed to stop your opponent with physical damage, broken bones, concussions etc. togakure is about control. it's a softer style, which manipulation the opponent's balnce and positioning through leverage, the damage it deals is most often in the form of joint locks and hyperextensions leading to fractures. they break mostly with leverage, instead of impact force like kick boxing uses.

No. Ninjutsu was originally created by Japanese farmers to defend against heavily armored Samurai that would pillage small villages and farms (which eventually lead to an uprising in early Japanese history). The point of Ninjutsu is to be lighter then your opponent, faster, and to hit specific points on the body (especially open points on an armored opponent such as the sides and neck). It is only smart counter tactics to assassinate an enemy or attack at night.

The point of the videos in a compilation like this is not to show a live action, real fight against anyone. It is to display situations and methodologies and ways of thinking that are in line with the arts being taught and trained. As with all martial arts, the training portions (as in the periods of instruction) are not about truly resisting when there is the possibility of great injury. Most of the techniques are feints, counters, and bodily manipulation of the opponent. Keep that in mind.

also keep in mind, whereas jiujutsu, aikido, karate etc., are each individual styles, the bujinkan teaches 9 different ryu. that's 9 different family styles cultivated by different groups for different purposes. some may be more balanced than others. it's not just "Ninjutsu". ninjutsu isn't a martial art, it's a variable skill set. kicking someones ass isn't ninjutsu, knowing how to, in addition to poisons, explosives, infiltration, disguise, etc., is ninjutsu. bujinkan is a japanese MA grab bag

@aluisious yeah that's because if they don't, their arm will be broken I'm a student of the Bujinkan here in the US and I can tell you right now that in an environment where every move is not carefully controlled, this art is designed to maim, break bones, and even kill in extreme situations, they're all being very careful so that they don't cripple each other, I know this from firsthand experience

I find it quite interesting all the comments regarding this as fake. My brother's ninjutsu class went to Japan to train with Hatsumi and one of his top students for two weeks. He showed me first hand one of the techniques he learned and I'll admit it would make anyone give up if used on them. And although the video is staged for the sake of filming, Hatusmi is the real deal.

@gourdguru
@gourdguru 11 жыл бұрын
it's a different take on the same problem. the techniques in bujinkan are sort of a middle ground between hard joint locks, nerve strikes etc.(like jiu jutsu), and balance taking techniques(more like aikido). the real problem is most of this video is old clips from when hatsumi was riding the "Ninja boom" that hit japan starting in the mid 60's and then again in the 80's in the US. the "multistrikes to the attacking arm(1:15)" stuff is not practical, but the throws, locks, etc., are great.

Everyone bangs on about MMA, but it doesn't teach you to defend against multiple attackers or people using weapons. UFC is a sport based on point's with judges, rules, and referees. Two athletes in a cage is nothing like the real world. Most fights or attacks are over in seconds, no time to feel your opponent out or to role about on the floor where you are most vulnerable. MMA may teach you to fight but not how to defend yourself. Ninjutsu is more than a martial art it's a concept.

i wonder how many people would have made dumb comments on this have actually practiced any type of martial art or came in physical contact with a martial artist...in a "more realistic" scenario it would be much faster obviously and you wouldn't see half of the stuff that happened. These demos are to show the details of the movements. Realistically you would see any of this because you'd already be dead. Period

I didn't ignore them, I admitted I don't have enough information to argue my side. The only area I can see anything that would make me doubt is the lineage and it's not a subject I know much about. I don't know of the details of Kacem's research, but I've met the man and he is honest and earnest in his training. He doesn't exactly make much money from the bujinkan either, so there is no real financial stake for him.

Martial Arts teaches specified movements and how they work... These work better for some then others. Shave off what doesn't work and refine what does, Mixed Martial Arts shouldn't even be a title if you look at what the term truely implies. A person to use what works out of the trained "styles" for the particular ingagement would be a "master." "Be like water my friend." - Bruce Lee

There are martial arts meant to kill, and there are martial arts meant for sport. Fact is there are people out there who can actually do the block, counter attack, disarm and all of that. People think MMA is the real deal, well when you're just in there to fight and not to kill it's completely different. I've met a hop gar kung fu master from the Philippines and he can literally catch my punch out of the air and/or fire some ridiculous counter attack that could disable me. The guy is also 70

Bobby Tate I know it's hard to believe when seeing someone fall over. From what seem like just a simple touch or slightest movement. The human body has pressure points all over it and it doesn't take much to render someone unconscious. Or to get them off of you by a pressure point grab. It doesn't take much when it comes to that. This dude knows everything there is to know about this style of fighting. plus he's just demonstrating these techniques in this video.
@bobbytate9907
@bobbytate9907 7 жыл бұрын
+Stroker Ace I agree with you that Masaaki Hatsumi knows all there is to know about this style of fighting...he made most of it up. As for the video, either you are correct--that this footage represents highly sophisticated neural manipulations--or these Japanese students are respectfully falling over willfully at the touch of their elderly sensei in a role playing context. To be honest I tend to favor the latter because on many occasions he either misses his attackers completely, or they are beginning to "fall" before he actually manages to counter-attack.

@Nekrodream so to increase the interest in the school he already knew, he wrote a letter to the headmaster, asking to open a branch and combine kukishin with karate kata, the problem was, that kuki had already heard he was calling his art 'kukishin ryu ninpo' to people like Masaaki Hatsumi ( the guy in the video) ... now kuki family didn't like this one bit. mainly since they never taught takamatsu any ninjutsu or ninpo.... cont.

Most people also stop their attack when they are off-balance, in pain from having limbs bent the wrong way, or even just because you're threatening a vital area (like taking an aggresive posture and stucking your hand pointing at their eyes when they are mid-punch).

Sure there is cometition but it's based purely on points and not on overall fighting ability. UFC is based on points also, but it is much more physical. I also agree and mentioned the fact that the rules in UFC make it less of an effective fighting style for real life situiations - but it does have more of a transferability than the average martial art, due to

The reason why people believe ninjutsu is impractical is because the japanese military started implementing guns once the Portuguese started to immigrate to Japan. It is for this same reason why people believe that martial arts is impractical because why fight if someone is going to pull a gun on you later. Also having a FOID card (which the only requirement is a standard low fee) allows firearms to be owned on a legal stance. The sole purpose for any martial arts is discipline and integrity.
