Thanks for everything! It was through you that I got my first taste of the art. When I was facing struggle it was your guidance that helped me to make a better decision. When I got to Japan the foundation that I got through your training truly brought out the essence of the art. Not just form or technique, but essence and character. It revealed to me some of the failings of my teachers as well. I will say one thing that has appeared to be a theme is the real life translation seems to be lacking. Not just about time and distance but words, feeling generation, and tactical decision making. There is an over all push to attempt to change minds with force rather than guide them to their own folly. Challenge any of the talking heads they are so sure they are right that they will throw people out of their class that challenge them. Rather than taking the challenge to lead guide and influence them. Like Hatsumi said we are martial anthropologists. It is up to us to bring it to life in all its essence's. Again thanks!

This makes me sad.....Takamatsu sensei passed away a year after shifting the arts to Hatsumi sensei. Mrs. Hatsumi has passed away already, so the next obvious occurrence is the passing of Hatsumi sensei. I know it's inevitable, but I still hate the thought. I am happy that the art will be adapting to the modern world....I am sad and excited at the same time. Let the future begin!!!

for me childhood was rural Hawaii...80ties, I was obsessed with martial arts and ninjutsu was very popular. Later on I was involved with judo, boxing, kickboxing, wrestling and football. I founded one of America's first mixed martial arts clubs and a Ninjutsu group showed up to try their hand in the cage. They wore full ninja gi down to the tabi boots and weren't initially taken seriously even tho they were compeditive until their head instructor went 5 and 0 in American Shooto MMA competition. I trained with them for a few years and was granted a sensei rank in Taijutsu... many years later a guy showed up to my gym talking about Bujinkan and I was not familiar... after looking up Bujinkan online it's kind of difficult to accept because it seems so hokey. Fake no-touch Masters are very detrimental to the martial arts world and although Bujinkan doesn't seem to step over this most important line it still maintains a lot of theatrical techniques that in my opinion have no place in the hardcore world of ancient medieval Asian combat My attitude about Tai Jitsu is vale tudo striking with anything goes Judo style lapel work... I don't think ninjas bothered with much of the techniques they depict on the bujinkan videos as their motivation was simply in and out survival or Battlefield expedients! I have to assume the theatrics are simply an intelligent business attitude rather than a realistic take on Ancient medieval Asian combat or its modern day equivalent! Its hard enough to get people to take Ninjutsu seriously without kung fu movie choreography and dangerously hokey fake Aikido style no-touch throws!?!

The MMA guys say that Ninjutsu would lose in a real fight, especially when pinned down by Brazilian Jujitsu... so, it is refreshing to see your comment and how you feel otherwise - that Ninjutsu is actually the real thing. Please keep up the challenge to the modern day UFC type of fighting.

Damn, I hope the art continues in the same spirit as it has done so far, because it´s a good spirit. I hope there´s enough determination still among people to make that happen. I mean, and now please don´t misunderstand my words, there´s much old blood in the organisation but very vital blood though, and not so much young blood anymore. Still I think Bujinkan has got what it takes to carry on. Hatsumi is really special and has done a tremendous job in making Bujinkan what it is. There are many other great personalities too and if they can find a way and work together I believe the art can make it. Hatsumi is one of a kind personality, but I think he has succeeded in making Bujinkan overall strong so that it can continue after him. I think the good will is there.

some very strong and strange claims here. I will point a few out that are inaccurate No teachers for 3 years - wrong, the Honbu has had lots of teachers in it daily until Covid, including Hatsumi sensei. Hatsumi sensei retired but still sometimes turned up, the 'Teachers' continued to teach. No ranks - thats a lie. The office never stopped to issue any rank, including Kyu grades etc. The Honbu membership stopped to remove some pressure on the office. Shidoshi-ho was not brought back. It ended and that was it. many who asked for cards and shidoshi-ho had money returned to them. The cards was part of a joke he set in palce. to see who was greedy and would start to issue them to make money. The honbu office has for 10+ years written out the Kyu and dan ranks, with 5th dan + usually being done by hatsumi, after the office staff verified it was ok. Ishizuka sensei should not be reffered to as soke, he is not Soke of the Bujinkan. When disucssing him within the Bujinkan he should according to etiquette be called sensei or shihan. Yes he is a Gyokko Ryu soke, but that does not mean he is called soke in the Bujinkan, it is disrespectful to hatsumi sensei. I got to 5 min gave up, too much in accurate info.

@@EricSanson it's about 2 years ago they announced it was stopping. I know people in mid 2019 who had money sent back with a message... No more shidoshi-ho. However, that can change at anytime.

Question, Why would calling one of the other Soke disrespectful to Hatsumi? he is retired and I would assume no longer the Soke of the Bujinkan and they are Soke of their respective schools. just asking, I am not all that good with Japanese customs and culture. thanks!

@@mightymurfdog he has retired from active teaching. He has not retired from the Bujinkan. That comes with his death. Hatsumi sensei is still the Soke of the Bujinkan, and still in charge.

Just one point about certificate and membership I received my 3rd Dan but since my grading 3 years ago I have no certificate for my grade and no membership card for about the same time. Regards Phil Moore UK 🇬🇧

please make traditional menkyu licenses available again. maybe for after 1st dan or something (to senior students). Not very into the modern dan thing.

Unless you are the soke you can not do that. You have to be ranked in that specific ryu and be the soke. having a 15th dan in the Bujinkan does not permit you to rank in each school, doing so can lead to your expulsion from the ryu or org.

I love the older ranking system that you mention. a sword teacher of mine uses it and has authorized me to use that for my students. BUT as far as the Bujinkan that is NOT possible at this time. Each new Soke of each ryu must decide IF they must do that in time. No one really knows what their agreement is on these things with Hatsumi-Sensei. He never did it this way and neither did Takamatsu-Sensei except for a complete Menkyo Kaiden Level.

To me, it is clear, it was Westerners that brought Ninjutsu to the rest of the world, not Japan. To this day, Japan is happy to keep to themselves. Japanese make for bad evangelists. lol
