Agreed. Hinged handhelds always risk being broken when handled by small children. 2DS lasts longer and is cheaper with a game included. Thats great for parents on a budget who can still provided their kids with the exact same games that can be played on a 3DS XL

charles thomas It's pretty enjoyable, the super Mario bros 2 game comes with 30 more quests, there are enjoyable free games from eShop, but however you need to ask a parent to set up a lot of complicated stuff before buying a game from the eShop. I think the one i have has AR cards (Play a couple of games and also take pictures of your character AR cards where you can place it next to the main ? card to take pictures and also change the poses.) Lol I wasted 3 minutes writing that

I think the 2ds is still the best device in the 3ds family cause it has the best grip when you have bigger hands... For my I bought a realy nice case wich transform the console in a ergonomic controller with 2 displays...

I honestly prefer the 2ds to the 3ds. I've had both for a good while. The 3ds is painful to hold for long periods of time for me (a person with arthritis and bad joints in my hands), while the 2ds stayed comfortable the entire time. It's also nice not having to deal with the hinge part of the 3ds, which, from my experience, tends to wear after some time and flop around. The price was also much better. If you can find a 2ds on sale somewhere you can probably get it for under 50, and they all come with preinstalled games, so you're getting 2-in-1 for reaalllyyy cheap. Point being, if you're not gonna miss the 3d capability and you want a more comfortable experience, and don't necessarily care about it feeling like the most "premium" thing in the world, then go for the 2ds.

I am really excited to get the 2ds's that I ordered, I got them both for my autistic uncles who are basically living in the Nintendo Wii era of gaming. I'm hoping that because of the form factor it will be better for their grip and being hard to break. I am honestly so excited to give them their gifts, they mean the world to me. I am just so glad that this model is so cheap and so functional for the price and my needs. I'm 17 and working a part-time job, so I can't exactly get them the biggest and the best yet. I promised them though that when I do have my career, I'm gonna get them all the games their little hearts desire (even though they are adults) lol.

I bought my 2Ds for $100 or so off of a top Seller on eBay. It was new and stuff and was a good deal. I would recommend a 2Ds in 2019 as it has a large selection of playable games and the 2Ds is very cheap for what it is. My only "complaint" is that fact that its not as portable as the rest of the line. While that's being said I just had to buy a $10 case for it and keep it in the case while traveling and Ive been good. Sure I can't just slip it into my pocket. But I can just put it, the charged and up to 9 games in its case and it's all protected and ready to go.

In my opinion, The 2ds will always be worth getting for one reason: No hinges! This thing is definitely for all you collectors and gamers who simply love to hold on to their consoles for many years. 20+ years from now I guarantee people are going to have a hell of a time trying to repair their old clam shell 3ds's especially if Nintendo are no longer offering repairs while the 2ds will probably still run fine with no issues because it lacks any moving parts. I have a New 3ds XL but I plan to soon get a 2ds just in case one day in the far future my 3ds XL breaks.

Yeah, when this thing came out, I thought: "WTF?!?" Most people hated it not only because of its shape but also that it's not pocketable. I also hated it at first but it kinda grew on me. Because of the dual screens, Nintendo couldn't make it pocketable because otherwise, the screens would be so tiny! I like the gameboy, tablet form factor and the price is the best deal of gaming now! One thing I don't like: it's significantly slower than the "New" 2ds/3ds: not only the booting time, loading is slower, a few games cannot be played on this 2ds (so alot people said that this is just a 3ds without 3d, that's not true because it's also slower!) Overall, I think it's a great budget console for those that want to play 3ds AND ds games and the form factor is great when playing in bed because this is my back up to play 3ds in bed!

Is there a way to boot from an sd card with this device? If so, you might be able to use something like RetroBoot to just switch between emulation and normal use... I just ordered the Zelda special edition. It cost $125 but I think it is well worth it for that sweet color scheme. I am looking forward to seeing what I can do with it. I think 3d is a headache inducing gimmick that I can handle for about 15 minutes, so definitely not worth it. The best way to simulate 3d is with glasses. I played a lot of Rad Racer when I was a kid, in 3D. But if I had to pay an extra $150 for the glasses, it wouldn't be worth it. But yeah, I can watch a whole movie in 3d without disorientation or visual disturbance. This is the second time Nintendo has tried 3D and it has been a practical failure both times. Until they can project it as a holographic image, I don't think it will become standard.

I still use this in 2020 but it can play all the new games like animal crossing games and you can also play ds game on it so I opens up a huge library of games I would say it’s worth it it runs 3ds games fine and u get to play ds games so u can play wild world and the ds games graphics are increased a bit.

2ds was for little kids. Cheaper and more solid. No hinges to break and was never meant for adult gamers to take serious. It's a good system if you find it cheap. Keep anyone collecting from playing on their collector consoles and play on a 2ds without worrying about scratching or dropping the 2ds.
