I think Nintendo was very smart in how they handled this Direct. My hype (like many others I assume) dropped immediately when I saw the word "Micro". However, there were still many great game announcements they showed and I enjoyed it quite a lot.

It would be smart for Nintendo to reveal Animal Crossing at the next Direct (within January or April), since it isn't really a good game to demo at E3. Afterwards, that leaves Pokemon, Smash, Bayonetta 3 and Metroid Prime 4. Pokemon could be revealed in June through a pre-E3 Pokemon Direct (like US and UM). Then Smash 5, Bayonetta 3 and Metroid Prime 4 could all get gameplay reveals at E3.

I think the direct was pretty good for a mini! Here are my thoughts: Pokken DLC: I’m surprised they’re making new content for this game! Aegislash and Blastoise are some pretty good picks. Though I think Infernape and Kommo-o would’ve been awesome too. That Mega Rayquaza support looks broken as fuck! 😦 Mario Tennis Aces: This game looks dope as fuck, and already looks better than Ultra Smash! I’m sure we all know who’s gonna be in the game, but as for new characters, I’d love to see Pauline, Cappy, and Hammer Bro as playable characters! It’s nice to see the mario sports games getting a story mode again. I also love that Petey Piranha is returning, albeit as a boss. He has the same animations as power tennis which was a nice touch! DK in Kingdom Battle: An awesome inclusion! It was pretty much a given ever since we saw Rabbid Kong. I haven’t played in a while, so i’ll have to get on that asap! Odyssey Update: HOLY SHIT LUIGI’S IN THE GAME!!! I don’t even care that he isn’t playable, It’s nice to finally see him! But i wonder if Luigi’s gonna be associated with Balloons now besides ghosts 😂 soeaking of which, I hope we end up getting a Luigi’s Mansion 3 at some point! Or even a Balloon Fight esque Luigi game based on his appearance in Odyssey! Tropical Freeze: I think a lot of us saw this coming lol. And Funky Kong is just as OP as he was in MKWii 😂 Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition: Ugh, I had a feeling this was coming. But I’m honestly stoked that we can get all the 3DS exclusive content in magnificent HD now! Considering that I already bought the previous two versions, I might wait a while to purchase this unless theres some sort of discount (not likely gonna happen though) I also like the additions of the Botw coustumes for Link and Zelda. Glad to see that Hyrule Warriors has met it’s final version. It had a fantastic run 😊 lets hope to see a sequel in the future! Star Allies: Definitely gonna get this game. I love the new abilities they showed off, and I wonder if there will be more. TWEWY: Never played it, but I’ve heard many great things about it. Dark Souls: I’ve never played a Dark Souls game, so i think i’ll pick this one up when it releases. I’m prepared for the worst (in a good way though) As for 3rd party games, I’d love to see Wolf Among Us come to the Switch, as well as it’s upcoming Season 2! Overall, I loved this direct. Regarding the price for the Pokken DX packs, you have to remember that there's WAY more to each character in Pokken then in Smash: In Smash, every character only has 4 normals, 4 specials, and 4 smashes. In Pokken, each character has a giant movelist, and much more effort is spent into balancing them for competitive play. This is the reason Pokken only had 16 characters to begin with, vs smash having 30-40.

Jabberwockxeno Not true... You forgot about those air-moves and every charakter has 4 grabs. To make it short, Smash has way more stuff to desig for each character.

you say funky kong is easy mode... i have watched the trailer several times, i don't think he can walk, i think he can only roll to move forward and jump but no normal walking speed

I picked up on that immediately when I watched the direct, but he's still an easy mode. He can hover and jump on spikes, plus rolling kills enemies that are on the ground anyway. He might be a bit slower to play in some parts due to not being able to walk, but it'll still be an overall easier experience

This was a great Direct for those who don't have the ports or a Wii U ($60 on ALL of Hyrule Warriors content is INSANITY), bad/horrible for people who overhyped too much, but good/average for everyone else. Nintendo doesn't need to show all of their 2018 hand at this moment in time. They are in a safe position w/ the Switch momentum compared to the Wii U era where they showed some games that were HUGE, but we wouldn't see them release for another 1.5 - 3.5 years. The next Direct is probably around March/April, but don't expect stuff like Smash, Animal Crossing, Metroid or Pokémon to appear until E3 IF they are shown.

Well, the rumors were true, and a Nintendo Direct finally hit us today, probably a lot more abrupt and shorter than most of us were expecting. Probably for the best, given that Nintendo didn't announce this thing at all, thus keeping our expectations low (or so I hope), but how was it? I guess I should probably talk about this up-front: Wii U ports on the Switch. It IS frustrating that the few games that were popular on the Wii U are getting ported over to the Switch, especially in the case of Hyrule Warriors. "Definitive Editions", i.e. re-releases of games with all the DLC included, are always reacted to negatively, because it makes those who purchased the game and all that DLC up-front back when it originally came out feel stupid for spending that money, and I certainly don't begrudge anyone who is justifiably angry about that (I AM one of those people who bought the DLC for both the Wii U AND 3DS versions of Hyrule Warriors). That being said, I can't help but feel happy about this regardless, not just for being able to play these two HD games on the go (Hyrule Warriors Legends was INCREDIBLY watered down, sorry), but also for those who may have missed these games the first time since they didn't have a Wii U. Tropical Freeze was something I was hoping would get a Switch port one of these days, and even though I'm not sure how to feel about the Funky Kong addition (It's cool to play as him, but Funky Kong always struck me as the kind of Kong who supports rather than goes adventuring himself, not to mention with his advanced abilities, plus-sized health bar, and immunity from spikes, it really makes me feel like he's the "Super Mode" of those game, i.e. the "baby's first game" way of playing as some would put it... though given how difficult the game is, it might just be helpful for those who had trouble with the original), I'm glad that it's finally happening! As for everything else, well... TWEWY remake/port - Alright, cool, might check it out... Pokken Tournament DLC - Again, cool, Aegislash looks fun to play as, and it's REALLY awesome that Blastoise is getting some love, too! Kirby Star Allies - I can't help but feel like this is the Kirby game to end all Kirby games, something about this just feels really epic! But, we'll see... Kirby Battle Royale & Dragon Quest Builders demos - Nothing much to say about this Mario Tennis Aces - A new Mario Tennis, alright, hopefully it's not as generic and dull as the last one. It seems to be the case giving the new look and promise of new mechanics, though I'd have to know the full roster and what else this game will have in order to-*story mode confirmed* ...I'm in. Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA - Looks like a combination of Monster Hunter and Xenoblade... I think I'll pass, no offense to fans of this kind of thing. Super Mario Odyssey Update - Luigi’s Balloon World - ...Okay... Not how I expected they'd do DLC for this game, or how they'd incorporate Luigi into it. Still, more costumes, always great! SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy - Never was familiar with the SNK scene, so don't have much to comment on this. ACA NEOGEO ART OF FIGHTING 2 - Or this either. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle DLC - And the new playable character is... Donkey Kong! Alright, that's cool! I had a preference for Wario and I know a lot of us were hoping for Rayman, but still awesome news regardless. PAYDAY 2 - Not interested. Fe & Celeste - More indie games are always good, and I think I've seen Celeste before... And the Direct ends with... Dark Souls Remastered! ...Okay. Yeah, sorry, never really been all that interested in Dark Souls, but this is good news for those who are into the series and hope to play it on the go! Overall, good Direct for what it wanted to be. We have some new Switch games to look forward to in the coming months, which is what I felt this Direct would be about. Here's to another successful year for Nintendo and the Switch!

I think it is because other large companies have ruined the idea of DLC. DLC has shifted from additional content to selling an incomplete experience and selling the full game as DLC. Nintendo has shown that they aren’t like this though, they give you the full game and offer additional content for those who liked the game.

Eh I think people admired that they don't make a habit out of it nearly as often looking at some games that have season passes right off the bat. Remember there was a lot of anger when they announced Breath of The Wild having a season pass a few days before the game's release. But then people being excited with the Mario Kart dlc possibly cause it got announced I think six months after the game came out. Its sorta a double edged sword here I guess.
