Finally miami law mentioned haha game is such a gem that went under the radar. Dont forget theres a whole other library of games that has been fan translated and some of those titles from the pal region. Ds will forever be the magnum opus of hand helds for me with everything it can do
@GamesWithTea11 күн бұрын
@@Jack-nj9pi I love the concept of fan translations as they are painstakingly long passion projects that allow us to enjoy more games. The DS library is full of surprises and indie darlings and unlike the 3DS, most of its software is not region locked which makes it even more accessible, a great handheld for sure.

Ah yes, Diddy Kong Racing DS, my favorite DS RPG. Jkjk! I loved playing rpgs on my DS. Dragon Quest IV, V, Chrono Trigger, Pokemon Diamond / Pearl / Platinum and more I'm sure I'm not thinking of. In general, handhelds whether DS, 3DS or Switch are perfectly suited for RPGs. I never had a backlit GBA so any RPG before the DS era was a no-go for me.

Indeed, the DS is an RPG powerhouse. Turn based games are really the only games I like for the DS form factor. I’ve only got a few games but I have Front Mission, Pokémon Conquest, and Chrono Trigger. In case you didn’t know, the Japanese version of Chrono Trigger is one of only about four Japanese games that actually have English on the cart (that’s the version I bought for $40 and played through for my first time ever). So if you want a physical copy and want to save some money, opt for the Japanese version.
@GamesWithTea11 күн бұрын
@@cornbreadcody that is really nice, thanks for letting me know, I’m so glad that now most games comes with language settings so that is mostly not an issue. Turn Based and Tactical Strategies are perfect for the DS and 3DS. Now that the Switch 2 has mouse controls, I wonder how games will take advantage of this.

I would say that the GBA rpg library is almost on par with the DS. But it was held back by simply not being on the market as the primary console for nearly as long. The fire emblem games, pokemon games, golden sun, mario & luigi, summon night, battle network, SMT games, tactics ogre, final fantasy tactics, Japanese exclusives like mother 3 and MANY more, the MANY final fantasy & other ports provided with a very high peak of an rpg library. It's just not quite as deep, but there are still many great ones that I didn't mention.
@GamesWithTea12 күн бұрын
@@BigmanDogs oh definitely, it’s interesting that you mention that because imo opinion, one of the biggest reasons for the Vita’s failure was Sony’s inability to dedicate first party studios towards exclusive games. It really is impressive how Nintendo maintained first party relevancy of two platforms at a time which I’m certain, they never want to go back to.
@BigmanDogs12 күн бұрын
@@GamesWithTea The vita is similar to the dreamcast in that the library isn't terrible, provided you are willing to play literally every single genre. It did have a decent selection of JRPG's, as the second half of its lifespan was basically just japanese and indie games.

@@Majora_Tinfinite space floating? I may have to use that line sometime 😂👍. Advance Wars was yet an another franchise perfect for the DS touch screen. I definitely miss that feature on the Switch especially when playing some RTS’s like 13 Sentinels or Unicorn Overlord.

You can make the CASE for the nintendo DS having the greatest library of any console. It's no doubt in my top 5 and probably top 3. Especially if we look at it contextually for its time. By that I mean that high-end smartphones didn't exist yet. 3DS had an arguably better or at least equal library, especially given many of the DS ports to 3DS, but the graphics and touch controls felt outdated from day 1 due to smartphones.
@GamesWithTea13 күн бұрын
@@BigmanDogs the touch controls for the 3DS did start to look a bit outdated as wave after wave of mobile phones started perfecting touch screen technology. While touch controls were certainly a feature, the 3DS marketing gimmick was the 3D visuals, something that Nintendo, and other forms of entertainment (like movies) just got away from. When it comes to RPGs, the 3DS and DS has an amazing selection of them which makes the handhelds priceless pieces of gaming hardware
