I remember taking a class in college where a copy of _Heart of Darkness_ was required reading. I tried looking for a copy at my local library to no avail, and the copies being sold at the school's bookstore were priced exorbitantly high. Enter my DS Lite. I had an old copy of _100 Classic Books_ and went through it to see what was there. Low and behold, a copy of _Heart of Darkness_ was included, and I expressed a simmilar reaction as if I caught a shiny Pokémon. Overnight, something that parents would always claim "rots your brain" single-handedly saved me over $60 in school fees and helped me pass a college course with high marks.

Yayeles I think the difference is in the fact that Kirby controls VERY differently from the mainline Kirby games, but Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks (both games I love) Link pretty much controls the same as regular top-down Zelda’s. With very little re-working you could make Link move around the exact same way using the buttons on a DS with nothing lost except maybe some small combat conveniences bu nothing required. Once you get to items that’s a different story but still.

@@armon9555 (almost) everyone knows Pokémon is one of Nintendo's flagships, both as a media franchise and a gaming franchise. yeah... I am hoping the switch isn't the new replacement to the ds... I will scream... that is a threat. gameboys seemed cool is a shame I never got to use one, but the ds seems more aesthetic to me anyway, the new 3ds is what I am eyeing now for a new system with the same feel and I am really torn... the switch is so far off my radar since handheld doesnt matter to me, I have a pc and a phone and I dont leave my house... the ds is just cute so I actively want to use it more then either sometimes, but breath of the wild is a game I would kill for on a ds system.... I hope they make new ds systems in the future as a companion to the switch, as tech gets better we get old games ported over and maybe if that all goes well botw on ds booiiiiiiis... I really doubt they will make another ds tho... which is a damn shame, although with how far they drift from the aesthetics of the first one with each new model I am honestly not sure I would want them to keep making new ones at this point... like the 2ds removes the best part of the ds, the xl has a stupid dust cover for nerds, the new 3ds moved the game slot which is such a small thing but I have such a visceral reaction seeing it... so god knows what the 1 ds will look like... they might even fuck up the consitent good size of the ds completely, make the screen slide up instead of fold out... or some other form of blasphemy... my ds lite still works, barely but it works...lets hope it stays that way

I swear, the best part of using the DSi in my opinion was Flipnote Studio, back when Hatena was still supported. All of those flipnotes music videos made by Fleesveon, Kiwi, EpicGuitar, Zombiewolf and others were so dear to me, that after my SD card was corrupted after Hatena was discontinued, I just felt a part of me die inside; literally 27 folders worth of flipnotes that I saved on the SD card... all gone. Although Sudomemo is a nice substitute, I really hope Flipnote Studio gets a comeback on the Switch, where everyone can share their animations again

@grantedger89346 жыл бұрын
Weird isn't it
@ReachStudioPro6 жыл бұрын
+Diamond Axe Studios Music It makes so much more sense to incorporate your mobile phone to handle voice chat today than using the Switch itself. You have your phone with you all the time, everyone owns one and your phone has everything. It has Discord, the absolute best voice chat on the market, you can easily connect any headset to your phone too. Both wired and wireless. People try to argue that when you play on the Switch, you are actively using it but the fact remains, you still have your phone with you during that time too. The quality of voice chat on the Switch would have been worse than your phone as well. In fact, voice chat do exist on the Switch and the sound quality is terrible. A mobile phone is the most accessible piece of hardware everyone has today. It makes no sense to ignore it at this point. It works perfectly well with Switch. Ignore Nintendo's app, just use Discord and you're good to go.

I was destroyed.......until Nintendo emailed and said that her credit card didnt go through. We drove my ass to Walmart and I got the Pokemon one. TL;DR, the DS is so much fun I almost broke my hand trying to play a broken one. I remember the DS. my sister first won one out of one of those machines that drops 25 cent prizes even though you payed a dollar to play unless you went for the high stakes bar which was rigged AF but dropped things like cameras and phones so how could you resist. we were so fuckin hyped cause we thought we'd never get it. We must have spent something like 89$ over the course of a month at that Buffalo wild wings. my dadd took us straight ot gamestop and we got the new yoshi's island, Mario and luigi partners in time, and new super mario bros and we had an absolute blast with it. then after having it for 2 years, we lost it for like 4 months and when we found it, it had been cracked in half but i didn't care that i had to hold it at painful angles just to get the top screen to work, i played that son of a bitch like my life depended on it. It was still so much fun, even if i had to sit at impossible angles. but then my dad got me a new one because it was pissing him off to see me take 5 minutes to start a game cause i had to figure out how to balance it on my wrist just right so the picture would come through on the top screen. Still, it goes to show what a video game Addict i was that i was willing to go through all that trouble just to get some more Yoshi's island.

Am I the only person who liked the design of the orginal DS? I always had the lite as a kid but never hated the design of the original DS.

RabbidTheNabbit you’re not alone... I’ve never understood the hate it gets and I’m convinced I may be the only person on the planet that likes it the most of all the designs. Still my preferred way to play ds games

It was a lot less ugly when the DS was still new. I don't remember electronics looking very thin and attractive until the original iPhone was released. Most devices I can remember from the early 2000s were much fatter and a lot less glossy. I went from the original Gameboy Advance to the DS Phat and didn't notice much of a difference in aesthetics.

I always liked it - but I had an original early on, so early adoption prestige might be a factor in that... But it felt sturdy, didn't feel clunky compared to the GameBoy Color (the only other handheld I owned at the time) and I have fond memories of sitting on ferries to France playing Pictochat and trying to figure out where all the other strangers I was chatting with were. Good console, solid button placement and controls, many memories.

I love the original design. I just wished they never used that cheap silver plastic paint. The wear on those types of plastics are so horrible

my first handheld was the ds lite :D i remember having a pink one, my brother had a blue one and my sister had a black one covered in stickers (she still has it to this day) also, i remember playing pokemon black on it (my introduction to the pokemon franchise) and occasionally donkey kong country (both games i sucked at lol) also, sonic rush was fun to play

I first owned a DSi with NSMB and Brain Training, and I unfortunately didn't know what DSiWare was at the time, meaning I never knew about the GOAT platformer that was Shantae: Risky's Revenge until it was too late. 😭

Got a blue one as my first handheld, and pokemon black, as well as a used copy of Apollo justice. What starter did you choose? I chose oshawott, Couldn't get past the bug gym, restarted and chose tepig out of spite to destroy the gym.

My first handheld was the 2DS XL and my fav games were sm3dl and ssb4. Now I have the switch and mostly play Mario games, fighting games and RPGs.
