Here’s What Nintendo SHOULD have done with Donkey Kong on Nintendo Switch: 1. Getting it out of the way is NSO ports. We got the NES DK games but those aren’t really DK games and then we get the dkc trilogy on SNES. On top of this, we at least should have gotten DK64 and Diddy Kong Racing and I think these two releasing together in 2024 would’ve been a good time for this. On top of this I think DK: King of Swing could’ve made it in 2024 and then some other titles that are all maybes like not needed but could be cool are the GBA DKC remakes, GBC DKC remake, and DK Land Trilogy w/ the color version of DKLIII that is Japanese exclusive! 2. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and Donkey Kong Country: Returns should have released together in a bundle on the switch for $60. Returns was $50 on its home system and then $40 on the 3DS with it being a selects title for 3DS at just $25 soon later down the line. We are getting Returns on Switch as Returns HD. This is $60 and too little too late! Tropical Freeze was $50 on Wii U and placed in selects for $20 whereas just 4 years after release it was put on Switch with the only changes being pretty much just an update that doesn’t even deserve a name and at $60. I get that 4 years isn’t long enough for the game to depreciate in value and that’s what is good about Nintendo games is the retail price stays the same and the sales never drop it below like 50% so you don’t feel like it was a waste to buy the game when it came out. But like cmon? How can you increase the price after 4 years? The Funky Update which only enables him as playable on the new easy mode is not that good and so it barely justifies for the game to not depreciate over 4 years. So the same amount of content added and then at $50 still that seems reasonable? Well what about the people who already own it on the Wii U? The game isn’t on their Switch and so it’s not as accessible with no compensation!! For them it’s only worth maybe $20 or so for the hassle. So, just have it so if you purchased the Wii U game then you can maybe trade in your game, making it so you no longer own it digitally or the physical edition does not run and it says you don’t own the game. But in trading it they give you a coupon to get 50% off on the Nintendo Switch version. That feels pretty justified! Save up and wait for a 30% off sale when it’s like $41.66 or whatever and drop the game down to that preferable $20-$25! If you get it on the Switch you don’t need the Wii U version so it doesn’t feel like you’re giving anything up for the coupon as long as you do actually get it! As for Returns, don’t call it Returns HD. Instead just call it Donkey Kong Country: Returns just as Tropical Freeze does it with the credits and super specifics having (Nintendo Switch) at the end of the title to clear up confusion! The game(as well as like Luigi’s Mansion 2 and Skyward Sword and probably many others I can’t think of)should only go up for $40 rather than $60! At $40 it’s a decent budget title and for those who never played the game in their past this game feels like you are getting that $60 value! But, then is what the game actually receives. The game should receive some leveling ground so it stands closer to Tropical Freeze! Firstly, redo all of the character models and especially see changes in the cutscenes! They should be looking popping! Maybe redo some models that look off in the games and fix some shading issues. The number one models overall to be redone are collectibles, the two animal buddies, and the three Kongs! Then they should be adding more details to some things! In the trailer people already spotted the game is lacking from the original! The sun doesn’t shine through the treetops, the bat enemy’s attacks aren’t as alive! If anything the sun should glisten even better, and the bat should be more animated, and truly have even more weight to each of its attacks it dishes out! Things should feel better not lazy! And then the other side of things is the game should always have 60 frames per second clean with no dips and this includes in cutscenes and it has 720p handheld and 1080p docked! Then is the gameplay features! Change the name of New Mode from Returns 3D to be titled Funky Mode! This way we have some consistency. Maybe change the inventory system so that you equip three items like in Tropical Freeze. You know what I mean just more changes to make Returns stand closer to Tropical Freeze! And then maybe some other things that are big like Dixie being playable! While we are at it I think Tropical Freeze could also get another small update changing a few things including being able to get a full 720p in handheld not the awkward 648p or whatever, and like making Funky mode the secondary option not the primary. But what I think would be coolest is making Funky an alternate option and not an even bigger handicap! They could do this by limiting his health! What if DK and Funky both have the same health so Funky gets the abilities of all three kongs and his underwater breathing(and endurance or whatever else if they would add more or change things)at all times but in exchange he is always limited to 2/3 hearts and DK can extend his all the way up to 4/6 hearts! Additionally, make it so you can play him on normal mode but he isn’t available immediately. In like world 4 he decides to join you and in the water world this is perfect! And if in Funky Mode says the exact same message about joining you after the first level. This would be such an interesting thing and would reward the base progression through the story even moreso! Maybe in this update they also make you start to pay for Flight Tickets! In World 1 Funky just has his shop open. In World 2 he says he is working on fixing up his plane to be more suitable for passengers! Then in World 3 his plane is actually more cleaned up and you can buy tickets for 10 Banana Coins each. After each ticket purchased the price for the next one decreases by one until they become free! You also must pay to leave Midlevel so people don’t try to skip level if they are about to die when low on lives but that isn’t too substantial. This would just be cool to have this side progression of finding Funky in World 1, in world 2 he talks about his ship, in world 3 his ship improves and now you can go back to old worlds in each world but only once you’ve reached Funky at each of them, and in world 4 he decides to join you! Also maybe if you enter Funky’s Fly ‘n’ Buy as Funky then you can click on Tawks and he swaps to a different shop where you can swap Funky’s equipped surfboard! It would probably all be cosmetic but if they charge like 50 Banana Coins or 100 for each this would be a good little thing to put your coins towards and maybe some other cosmetics for the other kongs too or something! So my better idea is instead of Tropical Freeze in 2018 for $60 and Returns HD in 2025 for $60 they release Tropical Freeze and Returns at the same time in mid-2020 for $50 and $40 respectively in Digital Edition only with the Physical Edition and Digital Bundle of both games for $80(save $10)with both games on one cartridge. 3. They aren’t too awful with this but just more merchandise! Maybe a DK Nintendo Switch OLED for $359.99 that includes Returns+Tropical Freeze! Idk they could do so much more to capitalize! 4. We got Odyssey in what like 2017 maybe 2018 I think the Odyssey team should’ve made that DK 3D Platformer. 6 or 8 Worlds, a little more explorative than Mario Odyssey although arguably a smaller project. The simple $60 tag and I think 2021 maybe 2022 would be great! 5. I think that is a great amount of content that isn’t greedy from Nintendo when provided and maybe in 2024 we get the announcement of an Open-World DK to come to the next system but it will be a while like Metroid prime 4! There are so many different games That could be made and I just wish DK was a mainstay like Mario and Link/Zelda cuz then he could get cool games like DK RPG, Diddy Kong Racing Reboot, Donkey KonGO! Mobile Game, DKC Trilogy each game individually remade and released every 2 years across 6 years of development, Open World DK, or even a Super Mario 3D World esc game!

They do that to every single remaster/port. It would be more reasonable if they did that just for collection games, but no they will slap the $60 dollar price tag on an ancient 10 to 20 year old game like Donkey Kong Country: Returns and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door because they're greedy.

Plus, the "remastered" version has *_no_* HD lighting or even HD textures (except perhaps on the character models) - just upscaled HD resolution (the same is achieved for all Nintendo Wii video games on the Dolphin emulator without any modifications/hacks/patches, and that costs nothing)! 💀

I would love to see a Donkey Kong movie, but not like the Mario one. I think they went in the wrong direction with DK in that film. The version of Donkey Kong that we're all familiar was developed by Rare and based on Gorillas at Twycross Zoo in the UK Midlands. As a result, I think that he should have a midlands accent rather than an American accent. There's plenty of great British actors that could play the part really well and I think that it would suit the character a lot better. Maybe even get Ozzy Osbourne in as Cranky. As for a new game, it's difficult to say. They seem to be more focused on Mario at the moment, DK's latest game appearance was in the remake of Mario VS Donkey Kong I think. Maybe they do need to take DK back to his English roots (although the original character is Japanese) as there was something about the humour that Rare injected into the games that just added something that I don't know if anyone has done as well. Or maybe they need to start fresh again like they did when they got Rare to make Donkey Kong Country.

I honestly think it's criminal Nintendo has never explored a new 3D Donkey Kong. Of course, I know why, DK really hasn't had a stable and dedicated developer since Nintendo sold out Rare... With the theme park, the abundance of DKC elements in the SMB movie, and Returns HD, there reason to be hopeful, but I'll still temper my expectations. Realistically, it's probably going to be a few more years before there's a new game again.

I’ve been of the belief that Nintendo will release a new Donkey Kong game, and that it’s just a matter of when and who’d develop it. It feels too prominent of an IP for Nintendo to never release a new game in again. Part of there not being a new DK game in a while probably has to do with them not having a team to develop it, since Retro was working on some unknown gam after Tropical Freeze, before transitioning to developing Metroid Prime 4 after it restarted, and all the other Nintendo teams have been busy with other games. They could’ve finally found a team to develop it and have it be a Switch 2 launch title like you said, and that game would really help with early Switch 2 sales

I definitely think they’re trying to leverage DK as an IP, and we know the gap in games wasn’t meant to be QUITE this long for new releases. Look up the Kongversation podcast and their video Donkey Kong the Lost Years. They go into detail how a 3D DK game fell through that was going to be made by Vicarious Visions. I don’t know the exacts, if Activision pulled the plug, if Nintendo wanted DK to be done in house (which, if so, would be more credence to Nintendo EPD working on a new DK), but I know the game was gonna happen and just didn’t. So Returns HD is definitely a good sign. It’s a stop gap title before the next big DK game. Besides, this isn’t the first console generation DK’s skipped out on for a mainline title. Sure, the GameCube had some spin off games, but nothing mainline or meaty until Returns returned for the first time. My gut says year two, but I would love to be wrong and it be year one.

It was actually Activision who pulled the plugged on the project. Donkey Kong in Skylanders Superchargers provided the framework for the game, but Activision canned the project so that vicarious visions could focus on the former's IPs.

Bo if possible we need to get the message to Nintendo that any future remaster or remake games they do MUST have at least one new feature such as a new level, boss etc. Just a graphic upscale while welcome is not enough. Luigi Mansion 2 could have involved new bosses, new costumes for Luigi and a new multiplayer stage and re DK they too could have included at least 1 new boss. Sigh

I think I will hold my breath on Nintendo being serious about expanding DK as a franchise and creating new DK games when they send out a survey as heavily focused on him as that one survey where they focused heavy on Mario RPGs. I’d make sure they knew from my responses I’d want a 3D title akin to DK64. And it doesn’t seem so unreasonable to expect and express such imo because there was that attempt from Vicarious Visions to make a new 3D title several years back, per that DidYouKnowGaming video. I’m just bitter that this is what Nintendo wants to announce and sell as opposed to releasing a new title. The wait and the price would be justified if it was a new title, and would make better sense as something to create hype for the park expansion. And it would’ve been a far more adequate way of celebrating 30 years of DK, which in this year.

I actually got about two years ago some info that Namco is making a Donkey Kong + Princess rosalina game. That's based on description, so just roll with it: I would then in 2023 assume Princess Peach Showtime was that "princess rosalina", but turns out it had nothing to do with Namco, except curiously GoodFeel pretty prominently has former Namco staff. But okay, now i'm looking at this, ECHOES of Wisdom... it might be that the "princess rosalina" that was described to me was neither featuring Luma or Stella, but THIS new character, Tri. And THAT would mean, maybe the COMBINED DK game by Namco is now finally coming out. MAYBE, this game is called ECHOES of wisdom because it's related to Smash Brothers? And DK is soon going to headline a new Smash Brothers game? At the same time, to my knowledge there's been ACTUAL MERCHANDISE warehoused in USA, related to a nintendo AR game headlining Kid Icarus or baten Kaitos, since September 2023.

It's as weird as it sounds, my source was that a blue dressed princess with a star companion would cross over with donkey kong, in a bid where Mario is like a "game And Watch" mascot character on the go and DK is like "the arcades" mascot presumably on switch 2... But WHY rosalina? And now we have ALL THESE princess characters in blue, with a star companion following after them. Like they DELIERATELY even gave Zelda the hood to create multiple instances of that same description.
