I strongly recommend Octopath Traveler II, it improves on the first one in almost every way! It’s a perfect game that allows you to just play 1 or 2 hours at a time and pick it up whenever you want. Each character’s story is broken up into chapters and always recaps what you previously did so it’s perfect for in-between major game releases too

As I recall, the Kart garage in the movie was made and run by the DK Crew. That's why most of the racers helping them are DKC characters. After their initial battle, it feels like the Mushroom & DK kingdoms have made peace, and they're getting security from (essentially) a DK biker gang during the big pursuit leading to the big end-castle Bowser showdown. Either that or things go wrong during Rainbow Road at the end of Act 2 and something else gets him there.

I would disagree with the Yoshi's Island being a side game thing. I think it's both side and mainline. It influenced the Mario series quite a lot, especially with Paper Mario, which had a LOT from and inspired by Yoshi's Island. And in a recent Twitter post for Mar10 day, Nintendo said that Yoshi's Island started as a spin-off, but became a main game. I don't think a social media post is all too indicative of anything, but I think the influence from Yoshi's Island in the main series is pretty clear. The other Yoshi's Island games? They're definitely side games. Yoshi's Island was the first and last mainline Mario Yoshi game.

It was interesting that Netflix was on the Wii and the WiiU. Maybe that is how the Zelda Netflix rumors from 8 or so years ago got some of its wind. The Mario movie will most likely be a stepping stone into movies and television.

Glad to hear Kit avoided the mayo traps at Toadstool Cafe! I had the Mario burger and the sauce on it was like an In-n-Out or Thousand Island sauce which definitely had mayo as a component in it. Although I've heard the kids burger set doesn't have any sauce on the burger so that may be a better option if you ever get food there again!

After wave 4 of the Mario Kart DLC, I think it might be time for discussion about whether or not MK8 is one of the best games of all time. Huge roster, tons of courses, gorgeous graphics, killer music, gameplay that just about anybody and everybody loves… I think we’d be hard pressed to find many better games!

6:52 Guys, I wanna add Rhythm Thief & the emperor's treasure. This is one of Sega's underrated modern gems, it came out at early 3DS era. The concept as the name suggests is a Rhythm game with funny occurrences, also mixed up with little telltale game progression making it a little like ace attorney, a way to describe is like a Layton game but more music action than puzzles, is a very good game and I think it will die on the 3DS as the shop is closing soon.

1:05:15 I've been touting to this single melody: If Nintendo is ever to do a new Mario Party, I hope they actually plan it forward instead of making your typical Mario Party #. How I see it, the best way is to have a sort of launcher for the game, but actually buy the packs you prefer, sort of Smash DLC style. The base game just has a couple characters (your Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad) and a couple minigames. However, the way it works is that buy packs - a board, some 15-25 minigames and a couple characters, most likely in line with the theme of the board. And along the duration of the "service", they launch a good bunch of packs to make it so, in the end, you can choose to end up with up to 3-4 current Mario Party's worth of content, but released in waves. This way, you can have everyone playing the same game, you can still choose to do bundles (if the base pack would be US$12-15, you can bundle the launch boards in a case to get the ball rolling) and you could even choose to have one or two added into the NSO Expansion Pass. And you could also get creative - maybe instead of a normal board, you can have some sort of game, like a Cluedo or a Monopoly-style one, or even a DnD one and make the experience more about the main board than the minigames around. And extra to that, Nintendo could do to remaster older boards in between newly made ones. For example, such boards could be things like a Galaxy-themed board with Rosalina and Luma as characters and minigames based on playing in space. Or you could have a jungle themed one with Donkey Kong and Diddy, or one in Bowser's Castle, with obviously Bowser as the new character. The thing is that this way you can still have a lot of flexibility in the game itself, and still not require to have multiple games to juggle around. And such an experience would be more prone to be digital-first, which as we all know, does give the publishers more money than a retail box. And after the last some games feeling like they get old fast and lacking in content, this approach would by design be a content-based game. I feel like this approach would help their multiplayer-based games more than the fickle tries to have stories on the older games. However, I think that this approach serves better Mario Party and, actually, Mario Kart, than the other Mario Sports games (as those, even when they try new gimmicks to separate the games to other iterations of the same series, aren't nearly as flexible or as easy to incrementally sell them.

Speaking of becoming an Entertainment company... I actually thought Nintendo made a giant mistake licensing out Nintendo IP to Universal... I realize the the cost is huge for a theme park, but Disney makes a crap ton of money on their theme parks... Imagine a Super Nintendo World theme park with a Mairo Land, Pokemon Land, Zelda Land, Kirby Land, etc... it would be amazing and people would flock...

If this Mario movie makes it big, I'm fine with Nintendo taking on more projects with their other IPs. I had a feeling, that even Matt Patt of Game Theory had theorized, that the work with the Mario Movie was basically their covert mission to assess how the movie business works today, and why they may want to enter it again after the failure that was the live action Super Marios Bros. movie. The purchase of Dynamo Pictures probably means they were confident enough to take this on, and when the Mario movie makes a profit back (I cannot see it doing poor otherwise, unless it's REALLY bad) then I think we're going to see them invest more into their own studios. The partnership with Universals basically is a means to getting in. Build a rapport, meet the right people, then offer them some nice salaries to help lure them over to your side and build up your entertainment empire. They'll probably do a few more things with Universal, and maybe keep good faith with them for some time, until they build their own empire down the road.

Talking about your experience in Disneyland Japan makes me wish Nintendo would bring back some version or variant of Street Pass for their next system. That was always so fun going out to ball games, into the city, theme parks, and conventions and seeing all the people you've met, what they are playing, as well as playing silly multiplayer games with them. Maybe that is too controversial for Nintendo, but put a new Miiverse (one well integrated in other social media) and add a new Street Pass. Put a lot of features behind Nintendo Online like custom player pages, private (but publically available to Nintendo admin) discord style forms, as well with the ability to create a limited number of public ones, as well as inviting anyone into local (at least) multiplayer with the NSO games, and new Street Pass-syle multiplayer games for NSO. I feel like I'd be super excited for all that kind of stuff, much more than eventually adding select GCN games to the NSO+ system.

I assumed at the time (and this may still have some truth to it) that the cryptic "in some regions" messaging for Mario movie tickets was connected to the fact that in the UK (and I assume other regions), the end card of the trailer said "In cinemas soon". Whereas viewers in America saw "April". It seems that end card was unique wherever you saw it though. It was even different again if you watched the version on Universal UK.

Regarding Octopath Traveler 2, the character main story lines are separate from each other. There are times when you will unlock these side stories that will feature two of the characters interacting together which is fun, but it’s just the two characters. There are also travel banter conversations that again feature just two characters. So far, there haven’t been any moments featuring all eight or even more than two. I’m not close to being done so there is always a chance that could still happen, but I’m doubting it. It would hard to focus on one or two characters since the chapters have recommended levels. You can go to it under leveled but you might find yourself dying a lot. Some chapters just have you do the character path action a few times and certain path actions require the character to be a certain level or the success rate is tied to your level. I don’t know if you actually fail path actions that are tied to the main storylines because you were under leveled.

A few days late but it's podcast time lol I saw the Nintendo World video before this. I don't have much interest in theme parks but that did look like a lot of fun. Also the amount of detail put into that place was amazing Oh eww...lots of mushrooms in the cafe? I know they were sticking to a theme but that sounds like a lot Kit: Again, this is my life. Scrutinizing menus and photographs of food... I totally understand this as I am fructose intolerant. Most ketchups, bbq sauces, & fountain drinks have high fructose corn syrup in them which messes me up so I have to be very selective when deciding to eat out, especially at a new place I've never been to previously Nintendo stepping out of their comfort zone to make things other than games is exciting. I can't wait to see what they have played after this movie. Success or no, I feel like this has their gears turning in many directions that they hadn't considered before Whoa whoa whoa waaaaait a minute...."Wii-mote" wasn't the actual name? Very funny to hear that this is how Kit discovers Monster Jam As somebody who’s been a fan of Monster Jam for nearly twenty years, it’s pretty awesome I’ve never been too particularly impressed by the video games however, they’ve always just been serviceable, but more than likely not up to my current standards of games My favorite by far was Monster 4x4 Masters of Metal for the GameCube and PS2 I played it on GameCube and it was one of my first video games and I still really enjoy it It’s goofy, far from perfect and is incredibly cheesy, but has a nice soul to it that I like and was the one that I most consistently found to be fun to play, although that could be a bit of nostalgia boosting that If Kit is reading this, maybe check that one out, though the Megalodon hadn’t been around at the time, so you can’t play as it Prowler exists, a truck that is shaped like a giant tiger if that interests you lol

Can you imagine Highway 1 as a slippery Rainbow Road!? It'd be a horribly beautiful death trap! (Even moreso) Plus for as bad as the traffic is in the bay area with all it's accidents everyday, imagine what LA would be like? People would be flying 100mph to their dooms! The Lakitu would be exhausted! I feel like in 2023, "Mario Kart 9 not being how we expect" would be amazing HD graphics with 8 tracks, 6 characters, and yearly annual season passes that add 2 tracks and 2 new characters. I don't want that, but getting more and more Mario Kart 8 courses? I feel like eventually they'd give us an Oakland and Palo Alto, maybe a Yosemite course (or Las Vegas! That would be incredible), let alone what I really am missing from the DLC are more of the big band jazz themes and crazy ideas. We might eventually get a kirby track, or maybe Star Fox, or more F-Zero. With the current courses, I kind of hope the most for getting Diddy Kong, but if it kept going, maybe we could see some really crazy stuff like Wart or Mouser, maybe even Mona Lisa and Jimmy T.

The only thing I would do if I was Nintendo is come out with a more powerful Switch for smoother frame rate. Not even a required upgrade but nice as an option. Whatever is next has to be demonstrably better than the Switch AND distinct enough to avoid confusion.

My guess is the Wii U games fail because the semiconductors are weak and fail. It is a very different technology than the classic game cartridges. Files can also be vulnerable to corruption in some formats, for example .mp4 degrade very quickly while .mkv is much slower

Going by the headline of the video: They are PREPARING for this Entertainment Juggernaut future. They have PLANNED for this Entertainment Juggernaut future. Time will tell if they were actually READY for that future. But you guys know it will be a night & day for Nintendo once that movie comes out. It will be Nintendo BEFORE the Super Mario Bros. Movie & Nintendo AFTER the Super Mario Bros. Movie. The other question is 'ARE THE FANS READY for Nintendo's Entertainment Juggernaut future?' I don't know if they are either. Nintendo is about to change DRASTICALLY in their impact as a company. I hope we all can survive this change.

This might be COMPLETELY wrong, but to me the Switch era has felt very calculated for the most part, like, to the point where you can kind of smell when something got messed up due to Covid (*cough* OLED *cough). This theme park and movie feel like the endgame to that calculated “plan” to me. Funny thing is, I’ve never even thought about what would happen after all of this, and you mentioning it here kind of makes me worried Nintendo hasn’t either. Let’s hope they learn and learn fast.

The only thing I'm honestly worried about is that Nintendo is going to continue to "disney-ify" their products.
