Yknow, there’s so much news about many veteran KZbinrs leaving after 10+ years, meanwhile you (Kit & Krista) are just celebrating your 100th episode! I think this channel has so much love and success because of what you created over the years, and I don’t think there’s a better time for what you are bringing to the space then right now we’re so many feel like they’re losing that community or might struggle to find one. I’m so excited about this channel, and love this community so much

I managed retail years ago and worked really closely with my store's Nintendo retail rep. Cool guy hooked me up with Mario Maker buttons and all sorts of other little promotional things. He was a hard worker and really devoted to making our particular store look really good. Never saw any Sony or Microsoft reps in my years in retail unfortunately.

I want to analyze what you guys did well. When you guys started the podcast (btw, I know because you went on Minnmax podcast before your first episode) I wondered what will happen when you run out of story to tell. But it turns out, you guys did a very good job of spreading out your experience, AND you also relate your experience with the future. This episode is a great example of how you link your experience launching Switch 1 in order to predict how Switch 2 will be handled. I love the episode about vacation home that Nintendo allows you to stay in, or when Kit had to buy tons of umbrellas for everyone because it suddenly rains during E3 in LA. Nintendo is a very secretive company, and I think people are just interested in what is going on behind the scenes. Congratulation on reaching 100. At this point, we, or at least me, are just here because we like you guys.

I can see Nintendo doing a discounted “switch selects” series maybe a few months to a year into the new generation - assuming there is backwards compatibility, which I fully expect at this point, it could incentivize people new to the ecosystem to finally pick up those first party titles from the first 7 years of Switch. It’s also a good opportunity to put out new physical versions of the games that are fully up to date with the latest patches and potentially also include DLC on-cart.

About the pre-orders...idk about the US, but Nintendo does have their own online store now in Europe. They have full control about how sales work there so they could implement a similar system as valve at least for sales there. I know this went terribly wrong with stuff like the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Definitive Edition, but their mistake there is they opened up pre-orders and let people get it on first-come-first-served basis. So the servers basically died. But if you're clever you can do something like a lottery system like i believe they did for the Switch in Japan for a while at places like BIC Camera... just put your name in the hat and whenever they get stock and your name gets drawn you're one of the lucky ones. Scalpers and people with fast internet connections hate this method, but i love it lol

Anyone born in the 70’s and before have always looked down on video games or board games (dungeons and dragons), when the mid 90’s and on generation get to their 60’s-70’s then gaming will be mainstream popular with no negative attachment

I know I commented already but as a KZbin viewer only(non Patreon) there have been two moments that stick out to me that I’d like to share. One more than the other. Both are tales from when you two worked at Nintendo. The first gets me laughing all the time and that’s the "poopy chair" thing. I can’t even remember what it entailed, but still gets me giggling. The second is the one that stands out more and truly blew my mind. Truly speaks to how well Krysta(yes, with a Y, not an I like in my previous comment) can hold herself together. That’s the revelation that she was absolutely fuming during the Nintendo Minute episode shot at the Nintendo Store for employees only. I had no idea watching that how angry she was. If I may add something here. Functionally addition. I don’t think it’s a make or break thing for the podcast, but definitely made life easier for you two was when you got the table. I can tell from watching that it was a nightmare trying to talk for two hours and managing notes in your lap. Calling it right now that when episode 200 happens and you make another list of things that happened that if they happened different, Kit and Krysta wouldn’t be, it’s the move out of your mom’s spare room into a studio.

My number 1 fear about the Switch 2 is the bot buying/scalping situation. I got real lucky ordering the Switch and PS5 on their respective launch days, but it was also super stressful and time consuming. I hope retailer's and Nintendo have a better and more fair system in place when trying to buy the Switch 2, but I doubt it. As said in the podcast, all they care about is selling out, not who or what buys the product.

I don't get the claim about there is only so much shelf space in a store...the shelf only needs to have a display model, the store could have a small mountain of them in the back, you ask for one, the employee goes in the back and gets one. No shop has their entire supply on the floor shelf.

The new system is a small form factor T.V console. Even though its smaller then Switch, it doesn't have "Portable Mode", its made for smart T.Vs. There is no screen on the new console. It looks likes a basic wireless video game controller. 🎮 But it dose so much more than any other video game controller! Each controller has 1.4 tflops of graphics that is "streamed" wirelessly off the controller to a smart T.V. $259.99 for each controller 🎮 $449.99 for 2-pack 🎮🎮

The way people talk about video games reminds me of the introduction to film studies into academic and high brow spaces. Film used to be viewed as a low brow art- one not valued above novels, plays, poetry etc. Film is now more respected in academic space bc of people using theories and studies to prove its merit in art spaces. I see video games integration into pop culture and art and narrative spaces as similar. One day we will look back at the disregarding of video games in the same way that we look at Cinema and its integration into respectable art.

There is a trick to helping yourself get a console on launch via pre-ordering. Make friends with the staff, they can hook you up. I was friends with the manager at the Gamestop I use, if there was something she knew I would really want, like a special edition of a game or a Nintendo console, she will put me down and pay the $50 down payment for me then call me and I can come in and pay her back the $50 lol. Sadly she isn't there anymore, but it's fine, I'm friends with the assistant manager so, he'll hook me up with pre-ordering the Switch 2. The thing they also do, is they know the ball park figure of how many units they will get sent, so they will cap themselves at how many pre-orders they will take, like 25 per store. And then people after that get put on a waiting list. Essentially a 2nd wave of pre-orders.

Here’s how you handle online pre orders for a new console, a lottery system. Once pre orders go live keep the option to preorder open (1 per person) until your ready to ship, those who pre order will have a lottery number e-mailed to them and those 5 million numbers will be drawn and will be eligible for the first shipment of the new console.

In regards to preorders, why can't everyone preorder a console that wants one. When product runs out, you simply are on a waiting list, just like backorder. You will eventually move up the list. It's just like putting your name in for a restaurant wait list. What I hate is that you have to keep trying when it should be a once-and-done signup. Take my money...I get my console....eventually.

Most average people find it hard to process that development on a new console typically starts almost the moment the current one ships. I pretty much figured that Nintendo wouldn't announce a Switch 2 last year given that 2023 was most likely meant to be their last big push with the OG Switch. The signs are obviously there they are winding down development on the original Switch given how a lot of their output for 2023 and what we know for 2024 so far has largely consisted of remakes/remasters, ports, spin offs, or lower budget faire. I also wouldn't be surprised if they are under a lot of pressure to release a new system to soon to satisfy both the shareholders and developers plus with the fact that Switch hardware sales have been on a pretty clear decline. On another note I also highly recommend checking out Jeremy Parish's NES Works 85 series. It really provides a ton of fascinating insight into the challenges Nintendo faced in localizing and launching the Famicom in North America as the NES.

All that Nintendo has to do is if u have an account or subscription with them just login, pre order with cash up front and reserve for the next gen console, but they won’t because at the end of it, it’s about the money which is frustrating because we r all willing to buy it first day

Congrats on 100 episodes! Slowly trying to catch up as always but glad I finally saw this one! No Waluigi Week? Just joking. Debating on what I'm about to say but I'll just say it here. This morning, hours before watching this 100th episode, I had this strange dream about the podcast. I was watching it but the set looked totally different. Very dark background and you were both sitting at black tables. The edges of the table and some parts of the background had glowing lights that changed colors. Whole set looked like something out of mid-to-late 2000s X-Play. You both looked slightly older so that's a good sign I guess, podcast longevity and all that. The camera seemed to go back and forth between you both and it zoomed in and out, probably a sign that there was a camera-person at work. Strangest thing about the dream was that Krysta was looking directly at the camera and screaming about something like she was cutting a WWE promo and occasionally the camera would pan over to Kit who was just pondering. Maybe this dream will be a Deja Vu moment in the future, maybe not, but I'll just leave this here just in case.
