Japan has very different laws on crediting artists, since a lot of workers prefer to be anonymous to the public they only credit them once (in the game credits on this case) and then the copyright goes directly to the company. It is established in their contract.

They've already added multiple additional games' songs. It seems like they wanted to get the app out as soon as they had a decent variety to start off with, and they'll toss in a new game frequently. ...I wonder if the screenshots are what's causing it be slower than many would wish. They could probably get a lot more soundtracks up if they procrastinated the screenshots... assuming they didn't already have a vault of 'em ready for exactly this sort of scenario.

I took to the support website and there is a form where you can write feedback about the service - in the dislike portion, I mentioned the crediting issue. I think if enough people complain through official channels (like the support site) then it might make enough people at Nintnedo listen and make it so that the crediting situation is resolved.

Another few huge problems are: 1. App crashes after a few songs 2. You can’t extend that many songs 3. Even if you download music, the app itself still runs off of WiFi, so if you’re in a low cell-service area (or if you have low bandwidth), the app just straight up won’t open, or won’t play your *already downloaded* music.

And in a company that existed for as long as Nintendo, they are much more likely to follow established conventions rather than going against the trends. There are various reasons why artists don't want to be well known, and even if they changed things in recent years the deciding factor is the contracts they were under when the songs were composed and submitted.

I'd say this is more of an add-on for Nintendo Online than a flaw It's def not worth paying 20 bucks/year just for nintendo songs; especially when the catalog is still kinda small (I was hoping for FE:Awakening :'/) But if you were already paying online, it's neat to have the whole catalog ready to play whenever you want w/out ads I only would've preferred they just/instead uploaded it to Spotify/KZbin rather than keep it exclusive to a subscription At least, you can still find any Nintendo song uploaded by fans on KZbin or in soundtrack archives if you don't want to use the app

As many have already said, it's just a thing in Japan. Maybe they'll change it since so many people are complaining but I can't remember Nintendo ever going back and updating any of their credits on any games or projects or the like. Having composer-specific playlists would be cool but I wouldn't bet on it happening. The biggest problem is really the selection of soundtracks. There's way too few. It's probably going to take 2+ years for the app to even be worth considering using over youtube.

That is what I've been talking about. A lot of composers remain mentioned only in the credits (so that should be the bare minimum). When it comes to Mario, one of the few OSTs (with multiple composers) that goes into more detail is Super Mario Odyssey. But I want Tears of the Kingdom and Origami King individual credits, too. Though it appears Japan just loooves corporate credit. Sp very few Japanese composers get proper recognition, where I think of Koji Kondo, Yoko Shimomura, and Nobuo Uematsu.

True, but another problem is the small amount of games. Other then the Switch, no console has more then 3 games, not every console is represented. For example, Mario, the biggest video game character of all time, only has four of his games represented, and no character playlist. No 3ds or Wii U games(minus Mario Kart 8, but they're using Deluxe, so it doesn't count), and say what you want about those consoles, but the Nintendo games on those consoles have some amazing soundtracks. They of course need to update it to put in credit for the composers, but also the lack of variety at launch is a bit disappointing.

Not the biggest issue but I would like to see credit in the app, it would be nice to find songs based on composers. I'm sure the composers signed some contract letting Nintendo own their music and they were all definitely credited in the games they made the music for, so credit was given at the end of the day. I've also heard laws are different in Japan and this kind of thing is fine over there or something so make of that what you will.

And on top of that, I find it consistently crashes if you tab away from the app while paused and tab back. Like, everything appears fine when you tab back in, but touch anything and it crashes. I'm surprised he didn't mention the fact that not only do you need a Nintendo Online membership to use the service, but you also need internet to use it too (and thats not even including the fact that its not available in plenty of places so not everyone will be able to listen to Nintendo music legally). Like at that point, why not just create a music studio to sell said music to KZbin Music, Spotify, Apple Music, etc? It'll not only be way easier to get folks to listen to your music, but you'll be able to sell said music in physical form too if they so feel like it (basically a win-win for everyone)

Another glaring issue is that there's no F-Zero X soundtrack on launch. That soundtrack is many people's favourite Nintendo OST of all time, myself included.

I may be erong but each game has ending credits for when u complete the game right and the people that made the game and composed the music for the game gets credited in that specific game so in my opinion they have already given plenty of credit towards the composers

There's actually a handful of problems that make this.. not so cool. The lack of credits to composers is probably the biggest issue, but alongside that there's the lack of a free version with ads, the fact you can't just loop songs like you can on KZbin, the worry that new songs will be dripfed like everything else on Switch Online, and the fact it's launch library includes 22 songs which is pathetic for a company that's made hundreds of games by now. Most the games included don't even have a complete library of songs in there.

Apple Music exists, and several other service which disallows you from using the service without subscription. And you can totally loop songs and playlist here. Cooperation greeds? Yes it is, and always have been.

reminder that Nintendo is originally Japanese, and all these songs were first produced in Japan which have a much more modest and different culture/law surrounding copyright and credits
