All of the sequences in black and white were shot on a real Game Boy Camera! If you have any questions about this video ask me right here.

Hey Shawn, I have a question! Why was the GB Camera Printer completely left out of the episode? That was easily the best (and most important) thing about the GB Camera in the first place. Thanks for the great video as always, love the new production these days!

[Try4ce] I got the Game Boy Camera and Game Boy Printer on the first day they were available, but my favorite memory of the device was how I used the letter stamps for intro text and title screens in the movie projects that my friends and I made in high school. I would use all of the available storage in the camera to make multiple text slides, and even some text animations. The number of available slides and the larger size of the text, sent to my VCR through the Super Game Boy, made it a lot better for titling than say, Mario Paint. I miss the days when we had to get creative with limited technology to make videos with analog media, so it's fun to see the Game Boy Camera used as a video tool again in this episode!

Fun Gameboy Camera factoid: Those Pokemon sprites you saw (Charmander and Bulbasaur)? Gameboy Camera is their *first* appearance in the United States, as it launched before Pokemon Red and Blue. This caused confusion at the time, as people had no idea what those characters were when the camera first released.

Tharja Falls I actually really liked the series. I'm a big FPS fan from way way back. I found COD to be a fun game to play online with friends. However, I've never played Ghosts before. I just happened to got the poster as a free gift for pre-ordering another game. (KZbin wouldn't allow me to directly respond to your comment. Sorry!)

This video was really cool. I loved seeing the narration as it is seen on the Game Boy device itself through the GB Camera lens. Recalling the camera sure takes me back. I never owned one myself, but I thought it was a really neat idea... and, combined with the Game Boy Printer, it made for what I thought was some pretty advanced consumer tech for the time. A personal printer? A camera for your Game Boy? Mind-blowing. I appreciate the acknowledged perspective of what the device meant to users at the time, rather than comparisons to modern tech and how rudimentary this stuff is today. Looking at older games and technology through this lens, to me, is really important... if only to put them into perspective. Good stuff.

It's too bad the battery in mine died years ago and it no longer has photos on it. I remember looking those photos for the last time about 6 years ago, pictures of my old friends from elementary school, long-gone pets, and places I saw when I was a kid. I always wished I had the printer, so I could at least have printed them out somewhere.

My camera dropped and broke when I was a kid. A few months ago I opened it up and found a rom chip lose, so I stuck it back into place. When I was 5 my dad bought this and the game boy printer for me from a second hand game shop. I loved the camera to bits and I spent hours playing the mini games and taking poor quality photos of anything I could find. However the one thing I didn't like was the faces that came up when you pressed the "run" option on the camera, I was really disturbed by them especially the dude with the long black hair and the star on his head *shudders* anyway great video :) keep up the good work :D

It's got a few pictures of my father (now passed away) on it from a time we were doing laundry at the laundromat. Good times, but I wish there was a better way to offload the pictures that are saved on it, as I'm sure there's a collector out there that could appreciate it more than I do. One thing you can do with this device is to plug it into a Super Nintendo using a Super Game Boy, reverse the console, and edit the Super Game Boy palette so that the different colours match the irl colours. Of course, you only get 4 colours, and the Super Nintendo only has so many options, and even it might be impossible to properly match the irl colours, but it’s kinda cool to see as you can make the colour of your hair on camera the colour of your hair, and the colour of your face to the actual colour of your face and so on, you could make a pretty crap colour photo. Or you could use several colour filters in black and white mode to capture colour photos, but that’s kinda complicated and useless.

Yeah, the paper is quite hard to come by now. I recommend trying Japanese re-sellers online.

this apparently uses a CMOS (which, for a camera at this time at all, is very interesting) sensor (according to Wikipedia) also, while the sensor is capable of 0.16MP resolution, it can only save in 0.14MP (likely to save space)

And then 10 years later they tryed this idea again with the DSi. But the camera was built right into the console and can capture in full colors.

Even today the Game Boy Camera can be fun to use. There's a certain quality to the pictures that cameras of today cannot replicate, even at their crappiest settings. Of course, you need some sort of external device to extract the pictures, but a modern cell phone camera can do just fine for that.

I remember really wanting this camera when I was a kid. In fact, I remember counting down the days until the day when my parents said they'd buy it for me. But for some reason I don't remember, I never got it. Maybe my parents used that flashy silver tube thingy from Men in Black that makes you forget things.

Isn't this the camera that says "Who are you running from"? Can someone give me a little insight on what that is? Is it an easter egg or did the devs not realize how creepy it is or what?

+Tasia Boldyreva In the main menu on the camera, there is an option that says "Run", and if you try to use it you get the image(s). This is because it's meant to be used by the Game Boy Printer; if you hook one up and then hit the Run function, you'll be able to print off your photos.

yea theres a way to turn the Gameboy Camera into a webcam. Step1 get a super gameboy (it's a gameboy Player for SNES) step 2 get a SNES (of course you need it using the gameboy player for gamecube is not gonna work as well since the position of the cartridge is below the gamecube and SNES has the thing that stands it up) step 3 get a easy cap capture card (yea it's cheap but heck it's meant to be cheap) step 4 download some software to get it to work or use the Legendary windows vista (shut up XP is crap some people refuse to admit that but I myself have used XP and my experince is that it is slower than Vista and 7)

nikoli gogle Well, searching on Google told me that "Bangla" is a language of a state called West Bengal in India. Amazing how people from far sides of lands come together in a single video on Internet. I may not know "Bangla" but I now know the meaning of that particular phrase. Greetings from America!

+A GollddMAN Well brother it is mainly the state language of a country called Bangladesh also and we are an independent nation. However it is also great to see someone caring about the diversity and its essence unlike most of the youtube "over the top" members. Thank for the greetings, my father bought me an Atari 2600 Darth Vader when I was just born and that was the start point of my classic game enthusiasm I guess. ☺ God bless America regards from Bangladesh.

The opening line of this video is an understatement. Seriously Nintendo hardware wise used to be just so ahead of the times. Look at all the crazy Japan only stuff they did with the Famicom and SuperFamicom; online banking in the late 80's man. ONLINE BANKING! And they had those machines to write games to on your own rewritable cart... Seriously they were like too far ahead.
