Rosalina in Galaxy 2 just basically appeared out of nowhere at the end of the game. Thinking about it now, I’d love a side-story mode for her if Galaxy 2 was re-released. She’d probably play like a mix between Galaxy Mario and 3D World Rosa. Super Mario Galaxy 2 + Rosalina’s Story would be a good title name, in reference to her Storybook segments in SMG1.

I'm genuinely baffled that Nintendo doesen't use this concept more often, if you look at the massive modding scenes for their games (seriously its one of the biggest modding scenes out there) its clear people REALLY want more out of the concepts of their individual games, and not even just from the really unique ones like Mario Galaxy.

Mario Odyssey is still relevant 7 years later because the modding scene took that game to the next level. The issue is Nintendos old guard are too prideful and often don’t like to use ideas from other games. Main exception being Aonuma though who is always seeking feedback which is rare for someone his age.

I can attest this strategy works; I wasn't going to buy 3D World (one of the few who had a Wii U and had the original then) until I saw Bowser's Fury. It is a lower risk but high reward strategy imo

Nice video!! This ties into an idea that I’ve had for awhile and you sorta touched on it. Between NSO and the expansive amount of rereleases (remasters and remakes), there’s an ever-shrinking pool of titles for Nintendo to choose from. Rereleases are nice though, as they can pad a schedule, ignite interest in a somewhat dormant series, and/or build up interest for an upcoming title in the same series. As you mentioned, sometimes it’s even a great outlet for developers to experiment with new ideas/mechanics on a smaller scale that could pop back up in a new game later. So we know that Switch 2 will be backwards compatible with Switch software and my thinking is that “Deluxe” games will continue. This time however, it’ll be “Deluxe” versions of Switch 1 games for Switch 2. Enhanced technical features, maybe reworking some criticisms from the first game, and of course adding new content to keep the rerelease fresh. BotW multiplayer missions?!?! I made an entire video about it on my channel if you wanna hear more!!

I could see the Metroid series benefitting from something like "Metroid Samus Returns + Ridley's Revenge" Another topic that might fall close to this is bundling 2 games in a series together from a previous generation. Nintendo has done this before as well with Wii Sports, Advance Wars, Pikmin, Bayonetta, Another Code Recollection, and a few others. As far as re-releases go, this could be the better option for some games like the 3DS Kirby titles, or the New Super Mario series.

yeah, 2D metroid is at its best when the games are no-BS short and replayable (instead of dragging on forever with the same bosses constantly repeated throughout) so the "+" thing would fit the series really well

I've always been a fan of the idea for a "Zonai sandbox" mode in TOTK where you can freely share your zonai device creations and invite other players to your world. Thought that may have been too much for the regular Switch to handle. Big fan of all the "+" games. Bowser's Fury and Future Connected in particular I enjoyed more than the games they were attached to.

Sega made Sonic X Shadow in a hurry (while reusing assets to save time) so it can be sold in tandem with the Sonic 3 movie.

Also even though they do have areas where they re-use assets, i still think it's excellent time to superb stage design and mechanics. and besides look at the title screen when selecting the games, it very much resembles 3d world + bowser's fury's title screen. Also if shadow generstions didn't do too well critically, sonic generations would still carry it. It's sort of low risk, high reward.

The "plus" is basically Nintendo's way of making DLCs for their games, but adding some content nonetheless. Like what they did with their Amiibos. Lets admit it it, Triple A($$) titles gave DLCs a negative connotation. Like cut content from the game, but sold sepatately to make more money.

A good suplementary topic to this would be how long Nintendo waits before they think it's good to rerelease, remaster or remake a game. Is there any pattern, or they just do what they want to fill the empty slots. I saw with my limited research that they like waiting around 10 years for Zelda and Xenoblade series, so is this make your prediction of rereleasing Breath of the Wild on new system less likely?

Hard to say for sure. 2027 isn't far off (and November 2026 would be a closer match for the gap between Skyward Sword and SS HD) and will certainly be in the lifespan of the next machine. Then there's 3D World which was barely 7 years before returning although that's perhaps a bit different since it's a "port".

Xenoblade took the idea and ran with it since the Switch launched and most of them so far are not even remaster-related. Future Connected and Future Redeemed are not "Expansions", they are really just two seperate games that simply add one time trial mission each to Xenoblade 1 and 3 as a save data bonus. And Torna has quite literally no overlap with Xenoblade 2 at all besides sharing some internal data, so they were just able to release it standalone without any issue. It would be a genuine shocker if XDE does not contain a second game of its own at this point.

I'd say that all depends on what "additional story content" is added to X. X is known to be stand alone from the others, so it would entirely depend on if there's a reason for them to make an extra expansion. Otherwise, the Xenoblade series might be done.

Even though its not Nintendo first-party, as far as Zelda series goes I feel like there's room for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Plus in a year or two. 2025 will make 5 years since AoC and 3 years since Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, so if Koei Tecmo Omega Force wanted to keep the Warriors spinoffs alive and not invest in a full new game, the timing is right. Furthermore, AoC was released before Tears of the Kingdom, which gives some background around which the Plus part can be built. An Age of Calamity re-release with DLC included and some kind of Tears of the Kingdom-related Plus Mode may be appealing to people who missed the game the first time around, especially if the next Nintendo-series Warriors spinoff for Switch 2 isn't Zelda or Fire Emblem. (I'd personally like to see Xenoblade, as it seems to have all the right parts, a large and varied-enough cast, and in-universe explanation for the characters crossing over into one game.)

The reason the Deluxe versions could work on Nintendo Switch was because the Wii U did so poorly that these were new games to people. This isn't the case with the Switch 2 where the previous console is one of the best selling consoles of all time and is backwards compatible. People don't want to buy a system for old games. They can just emulate those. They want new games. Deluxe titles were more of a stop gap and to get some earnings. It's not a strategy for selling consoles

I’ll be honest, the last thing I come to Zelda for is a multiplayer-focused, Fortnite inspired experience. I’m hoping for a deviation away from “make your own fun” Zelda’s in the future. BOTW left a lasting impression, but TOTK really hasn’t left as much of a mark.

You may think it's a good thing, but I have a bad feeling about this considering shorten game length of this addon game and how it feels kind of wasteful in a sense for a remake/remaster and an added game if the game itself doesn't provide a greater challenge for the player if it isn't long enough to play. Plus shame on the Smash Bros idea, especially considering the lack of fighters that could be included in the next Smash games depending on the roster size.

I would not be opposed to an increase of 'plus' games as I realize new titles won't be coming as fast or frequent as they used to, so seeing a remake add on an experimental or incremental "new" game could be a nice way to get at least a microdosage of innovation, just to keep me satisfied as I wait for the next full course. But unfortunately that wait and discussion will have to be held without you since you suggested briefly that the next Star Fox title had to experiment in order to find a new angle to find success, a take which whenever I see it trotted out has the notoriously "often burned, traumatizingly shy" Star Fox fanbase react with all the care and consideration of a wounded hippopotamus whenever they get here.
