My prediction on what the weird (but smart) Nintendo decision will be with Switch 2 is that while it'll be expensive, there will be a dock or separate peripheral sold you can attach to the Switch 1 to play Switch 2 games. Most of Nintendo's 1st party games outside of the heavy hitters will still be for the Switch 1 while 3rd parties can finally put their taxing games on Switch 2. It will be more like Sega CD than Sega Saturn, the Switch will continue to sell this way and truly be uncontested possibly forever.

Switch 2 Switch backwards compatibility is literally THE MOST IMPORTANT POSSIBLE FEATURE for the entire Switch 2 system. It's the difference between starting over from scratch and coming out the gate IMMEDIATELY conquering the game industry for the next 10 years with the unchallenged greatest game system of all-time.

@@ieyke It's 100% debatable. I'm a huge Nintendo fan but outside of First Party (and they aren't many this generation), the Switch library is nothing to brag about. As stated by @t0mes, the SNES library was already better. And some Playstation eras were arguably better as well.

Like 21 games that are REALLY worth mentioning. (And even then, a couple of those...it's kind of charitable to call them particularly great games.) Switch BREEZES past that. Breath Of The Wild Tears Of The Kingdom Echoes Of Wisdom Mario Odyssey Mario Wonder Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Smash Ultimate Xenoblade 3 Dragon Quest Echoes Animal Crossing New Horizons Pikmin 4 Sea Of Stars Hollow Knight Bowser's Fury Luigi's Mansion 3 Tunic Cuphead Mario Maker 2 Monster Hunter Rise Metroid Dread Astral Chain Owlboy Bayonetta 3 Mario+Rabbids Kingdom Battle Mario+Rabbids Sparks Of Hope Splatoon 3 Octopath Traveler Triangle Strategy Bravely Default 2 Shovel Knight Dig Kirby And The Forgotten Land OXENFREE 2 Pokemon Legends Arceus Pokemon Sword/Shield Pokemon Scarlet/Violet Pokemon SNAP 2 etc etc etc etc etc etc etc The list just goes on for ages. We could add Super Mario All-Stars to the SNES, .......but then we would have to add all the SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, and Wii U games to the Switch. I pretty much completely skipped all the ports from previous Nintendo systems, and remakes, on the Switch list. If you add those, the Switch stomps every previous Nintendo system not just individually, but COMBINED. The SNES only comes "close" if the Switch is playing "fair" by essentially competing with one hand tied behind its back.
