One of my friends just recently entered the Nintendo ecosystem… he bought a Hyrule Edition Switch Lite to play Mario and Zelda… I think he has nostalgia for Mario, was curious about ‘new’ Zelda and the Switch due to it’s popularity. Game development costs have ALWAYS been increasing, but together with that revenue has also always increased. 3. There is a clear correlation between woke games and underperforming. 4. Companies can save face by just blaming the layoffs on the rising costs. But the game would never have been made in the first place if the gaming landscape would not been able to generate enough revenue to make that game in the first place (Nintendo is growing right now, revenue for them is still rising). If they had made the announcement prior to the holidays they might buy their kids something else for the holidays and just wait for Switch 2. They would feel like they made a bad decision if they bought a Switch for the holidays knowing that a new system is coming out soon. And they would feel betrayed by Nintendo if they knew that the only reason Nintendo didn’t announce it was because they wanted people to buy a system that was about to get replaced one more time before telling them about the new system
