The entire Game Boy brand never used numbers; instead, they used distinctive words to differentiate their systems. You get the idea. imo it’s smart for them to just slap the number 2 next to the name and logo. It’s clear to the point messaging with little to no risk of confusion. I imagine anyone with even the slightest proximity to gaming at the very least knows about switch 1 and its hybrid nature. Less is more sometimes! It doesn’t need a crazy name. Im more concerned with the games that we’ll get to play than whatever it ends up being called.

I feel like Switch 2 is the most practical name they could’ve gone for. As cool as Super Switch would be, it definitely feels a bit too Wii U-esque, kinda muddying its legibility as a direct successor to the Switch. Super Switch feels like a name they’d give to a higher spec regular switch. Idk why Nintendo Switch 2 seems like such a bizarre name choice or even a "bad idea" to some. Its probably the most safe and clear as day name they could possibly choose for the Switch successor. Wii U was not clear it was a successor to the Wii in the slightest. Especially with the endless Wii accessories, and how the actual system barely looked all that distinct. The gamepad focus truly was its own worst enemy. (And the heck does a U mean to an average person anyway lmao) I could 100% believe they not only choose Switch 2 as the name, but slap a giant 2 on it, and change the colors up. That is as clear as they can possibly be. Its honestly genius if true.

It also goes with the iPhone or PlayStation method which is the smartest, safest approach by far. I look at the Switch as basically a perfect product like the iPhone. Just keep making it more powerful with new games over time. Don’t get fancy.

If true, this would be a complete departure from Nintendo's typical naming strategy. They've never done a "2" of any past console, they always give each device it's own unique name. They will sometimes add suffixes to different versions of the same console (i.e. 3DS XL or Switch Lite), but not usually for a console of a different generation. Even the Wii's successor, though it was an exception to this rule, was called Wii U for some bizarre reason - not Wii 2. Due to this, I highly doubt the next console will be called Switch 2, but I guess there's a small possibility given the success of the Switch that they'd want to continue to ride with that name.

Okay so hopefully if we get one more Direct I mean it's possible they can show Switch 2 but maybe I'm wrong. But we know that Switch 2 will be revealed at the end of October but I still think Switch 2 will come out in March 2025 and I don't know if there gonna do a 3 minute trailer for it or a full-on Switch 2 Direct about but again I don't know with Nintendo we'll just have to wait and see what happens. And for the games okay so they can show 3D Mario, a new Mario Kart, the sequel to Kirby and the Forgotten Land, a new 2D Kirby Game or a remake of any of the 3DS Kirby games like Triple Deluxe, Planet Robobot, and Kirby Battle Royale, a new Star Fox game, a new Donkey Kong Game, a new Wario Land Game, a new Punch-Out Game, and a new Mii Game or a remake of Tomodachi Life. But I do hope we get to see the GameCube Library being on Switch 2 which would be awesome. But yeah I do hope Nintendo has some good plans for us for Switch 2 whenever it comes out or is revealed.

I’m calling fake on this one. My hypothesis about the next switch console is that it will be called the switch attach like it was leaked on that one youtube ad. It will have an attachable screen that you can use connected to the TV or handheld like the DS and Wiiu combined. the DS was the biggest console before the switch. I think Nintendo likes to do something different. and I think this time they will allow all of their games to be playable with an additional purchasable VR headset. it all fits with the name “attach” and resonates with their concept of the 3DS. The system will also be more powerful than the original switch, but still not quite as powerful as ps5 or just as powerful for sure. This will give them an edge over Sony and Microsoft without needing to have more powerful consoles than them.

I honestly think that the Switch 2 will literally be a Switch "2" meaning dual screens. However, I don't think it will _just_ be a DS-style Switch. I think the second screen will be detachable. The detachable screen will have the ability work like the PS Portal and like the Wii U was SUPPOSED to work. Main unit goes in dock, slap Joy-Cons on detachable screen to have a Wii U/PS Portal experience. I also think that the detachable screen will be the "Virtual Camera" that Nintendo has filed numerous patents for, and talks about as matter-of-fact rather than proof-of-concept. Slap main unit in dock, drop detachable screen in headset, use Joy-Cons as VR controllers.

Ehhh, adding a number to phones was always dumb, Iphone 2, 3, 4, 5 so on doesn't actually convey it's NEW, cause all Iphones do the same shit. There really isn't much of a difference between phones, they just add a number and the dumb masses go OOOH gotta buy it! When it's almost the exact same thing as what they already have. Maybe the phone is bigger or smaller, maybe the camera on the phone is improved or even gets a slow-mo feature, but the PHONE is STILL JUST A PHONE lol.

you can easily go a few years without upgrading to a “new” phone, have it be compatible with apps and remain functional, but when a next generation console comes out there will be games that you will not have access to unless you own said console. using a numbering system is simple to understand. they dont want another wii u scenario. the switch name is strong. slapping a 2 next to its name is the easier route to take to ensure there is little confusion of what it is they’re trying to sell you.

I know humans love convenience but convenience is the death of the mind. Wii U failed due to Nintendo NOT advertising it. They thought word of mouth would work again like with the Wii. It did not. A company is allowed to make a mistake you know. So what the Wii U failed. Doesn't mean you just change your company and follow Sony who's in a rough spot themselves lol. Humans should be doing their research and looking into products not just OoOooOooOO shiny trinket with a number, one number higher then what I already bought, guess I should buy it! Nintendo can't afford to pin themselves into a corner where they only progress through a number system. Switch 8 doesn't exactly work. And people are going to tire of the Switch's shtick.
