Nintendo kind of predicted this problem way back with the Wii, I think they just reacted too quickly. That said, I think developers need to start expecting much longer game generations. Technology isn't gaining in performance as fast as it used to, and charging over a half a grand for a video game console is insane imo. Pricing that high will force gaming back into a niche, unfortunately.

People keep complaining that the Switch 2 will be 11 years behind in hardware, comparing it to the PS4, and I think that's pretty ridiculous. The Switch was never about matching the other consoles' power-it was about offering something different. The complaints only really started when the Switch began getting ports of games from other consoles. Before that, it mainly had its own first-party games and smaller indie titles-except for Pokémon, but that's an outlier. Plus, the PS5 and the new Xbox still run plenty of games that could easily work on their previous-gen systems. If the Switch 2 has hardware around the level of the PS4 Pro with better software optimization, it’ll run most third-party games just fine with solid graphics and performance. The best part is that the Switch 2 will be such a huge hardware upgrade that first-party and third-party games made for it will be incredible, without having to limit what they can do. sorry for the rant lol

Yeah I mean I like that they’re putting more power under the hood but like you said they were never going to make it compare to the current systems. They just need to keep it powerful enough to keep getting third party support.

A: We have obviously reached a point of diminishing returns concerning graphical fidelity. Just yesterday I saw a video comparing the PS4 / X1 versions of "Star Wars Jedi: Survivor" with the PS5 and XSX versions ... the last gen ports were absolutely playable and were still looking good (and that is a game from just last year). B: It's a portable, of course it will be weaker. A PS5 / XSX power-level portable would probably cost multiple thousands of €. C: This PS4 comparison is flawed in multiple ways: C.1: The PS4 comparison will apply to handheld performance. Docked will run at higher clock speeds. C.2: It is based on Tflops. But 1Tflop isn't exactly equal to 1 Tflop. The GPU architecture matters ... a lot. E.g. the Switch is not to distant from XB360 and PS3 in raw power, but eclipses them thanks to more modern GPU architecture. Just like the ~ 2Tflops of the Switch 2 will be better than the 2Tflops of the PS4. C.3: That raw-power based Tflop number estimation does not take DLSS into consideration. C.4: The Switch 2's CPU will be stronger than the last gen CPU's, including PS4 Pro and the XB One X. C.5: The Switch 2's Storage will be faster than the slow HDDs of the last gen (again, including PS4 Pro and the XB One X) C.5: More Ram than X1, PS4, PS4 Pro and XSS. In the end it will depend on the clock speeds, but I think Switch 2 will be just fine. If anything Switch 1 has kinda proven, that enough people do not care to have the best possible power.

Yeah in my opinion. I play my Switch to play Nintendo games. I know not everyone has the luxury of being able to play games on other more powerful platforms though, so as long as they can keep experiencing games that run good even if the graphics aren’t up to snuff with the other systems everything will work out good. We’re just getting to a point now where the OG switch can’t handle third party games and debatably even some first party games
