When in Japan, you need to be able to fight the impulse to buy everything if you are into that culture. I would easily go broke if I went which is why I haven't visited yet. And now with everything the way it is, it will be a bit before I will be able to.

Be sure to hit up the “book off” and “hard off” stores (yes that’s their real store names) for more competitive prices on the slightly rare second hand stuff, especially late model switch items. Akihabara is notoriously higher in price since it’s a tourist area, so I’d also recommend Surugaya in Shinjuku for really great finds and slightly lower prices. You’ll think you’re going into a regular department store, but you’ll pop out of the escalator into a really great retro shop. There’s modern stuff as well. Don’t forget a lot of places are tax free with your passport.

Stumbled upon this video randomly; thanks for sharing your experience, glad that you enjoyed it. Just wanted to add, if you're making a trip all the way to Japan and you're a gaming channel, you gotta make a plan and hit up more locations for Hard-Offs, Book-offs, Mandarake, Surugaya, etc. You have to go to Osaka or much deeper in the south for the sweet deals, a third of the cost. Its very easy for a tourist to get caught up in the moment and drop $ on games that are marked up 20% more than ebay prices.

Google Translate is amazing for its image recognition feature and translating some words. If you're on holiday in Japan it's a must-have. It's a totally different story for when you're learning Japanese, like I am. I use Google Translate's image recognition to change kanji to text, and then I copy the kanji to a dictionary app so that I can get a better grasp of what it means with example sentences and the like. Google Translate also often gives the wrong translation since words can often be used in different ways. (This also happens in English though)

I found Nakano Broadway much more practical to explore. It has has much more niche stuff. Both Akiba and KB are really awesome, but Akiba is clearly for collectors of more modern items

i went too japan once while in college and it was fun but there was just one thing. I'm 6'7 and being in japan that tall is not that fun. its hard to shower, you have to look down to talk to everyone. and TOILETS. THOSE DAMN TOILETS!

Haha!! I went for 10 days back in 1989, the summer before my senior year. I'm 6'3" and at my height it was bad. Our matching band went. We had 300 members and each stayed in a different family's home! I stayed in one and their stairs are really tight for someone my height!! Still an amazing time.

Hey! If you're still in Japan, here's my recommendation for game stores. 1. Surugaya 2. Beat 3. Softmap 4 (akihabara) 4th floor 4. Trader (although they are more expensive than the others I've listed above).

@@NSG_UK He went to Bookoff and that one you can find anywhere. the other ones i listed are chains as well but if you're looking for easy to find games, they'll be in Akihabara. If you're looking for some hidden gems, then you'll have to look for the ones that aren't in touristy area
