Actually I went to Japan in 2005 and spent a couple days in Kyoto and Tokyo, when I moved there to go to school in 2016, almost of all the arcades had closed down, it was just the few major game centers were left. I was sad because there were some really cool arcade games back in 2005 I can't find no where now. It just Motion based games(like DDR but with your hands), a Fighter game, Taiko Drummer, impossible claw machines everywhere, and coin droppers now.

Just for future context, Daijobu is not "No" - Daijobu essentially means "It's all good" and is a contextual word. Also generic please is Dozo and Onegaishimasu is please like "can you give me". It's such a hard language to learn because it's all so so contextual!

Careful, "Daijoubu" doesn't techincally mean "no," it means "Okay." Technically speaking, Japanese doesn't have a formal "No" word. Daijoubu desu = Literally "I'm fine." Can be used to say "no thank you," or as a response to someone asking about your health/status. Daijoubu desu ka = "Are you okay?" Daijoubu alone can also be used to say "It's fine" in regards to an object or situation, like if asked if food is too spicy, or your bed has enough pillows. Just don't use daijoubu as a hard "no" if you are asked a yes or no question, or if you are asked if you did something. It is only a no in the instance of a polite decline if offered something. Edit: People have pointed out that "iie" is the equivalent of a literal "No," but it is considered extremely rude to use in casual conversation. My bad.
@Pado01
@Pado01 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I thought it was a bit odd when that came up. I usually use "iie" as a hard no.

@HarryLin
@HarryLin 4 жыл бұрын
Actually daijoubu can mean no in many cases. And you can also say kekkou desu to refuse an offer(like when someone tries to sell you something). I think a better translation for daijoubu would be "no, I'm cool with that"
@Thehotdogman1221
@Thehotdogman1221 4 жыл бұрын
No hard "no"? What about いいえ (Īe)? Isn't it a harder no? Serious question! I'm learning japanese and thought this was a strong no.
@HarryLin
@HarryLin 4 жыл бұрын
@@Thehotdogman1221 you're correct. I personally don't agree with OP that there's no hard no in Japanese. But people tend to use softer words to refuse others. Refusing other people directly is considered rude, so people will say things like ちょっと.(it's a bit...)

I really hope you guys were able to check out Mandrake in Akihabara. It is 9 floors of games and figures (and manga) that have been traded in (Thrift shop style) from people who no longer want them. Mandrake is literally half the price of all figures and games you can find on the streets at the random little stores. You can almost always find rare items there; collectors figurines and games. After traveling to numerous stores in Akihabara - we've found Mandrake to be the best, with the best selection for cheapest.

Those games were cheap because that store sells second-handed things. However, many Japanese people often keep in mind that they might sell the thing in the future, so they go really gentle on stuff like games, books, and figures. In fact, you won't be able to tell that most stuff in that kind of store are second-handed because they're so well kept. For things like game consoles, the store will do a complete check on the machine, and then clean it with alcohols to remove dirt and bacteria, before wrapping it in plastics.
