With this method do we still need to format the SD card or do anything to it at all? Or does the loader take all the brain work out of the process.

You don’t need to update, but it is safe to. Whatever you’re on when you create your emummc is where it’ll stay unless you update later down the road. Which is possible, at any time. Just make sure you start with the latest HATS pack!

Most likely not. But eventually maybe. I believe the last version I checked as working on the old firmware was 18.0.1

You don't need that rig to activate, I mean I activate main without taking off the joycon. I just insert the rcm loader and is starting.I don't understand why you need to take off one of the joycon.

I imagine the use for this is being able to get to the boot menu/hikate without having to use your computer. Correct. So you would be able to inject the payload anywhere in the world as long as the rcm loader is charged. And play modded switch.

I received my rcm loader yesterday. I'm booting into hekate with no problem but when i click on launch or more configs i just have an error message saying "no main boot entries found"

Search sthetix dot info for the most recent HATS package. Drag and drop to your SD card and you’ll be golden.

RCM only for v1. A chip is better in just about every way anyway.

With an unpatched v1 you can get in and do any home brew you want!

As long as you don’t touch the sysMMC (original device storage) you can go back and forth at will and play online. Just make sure to follow the guides and setup the proper exosphere and dns blocking services first to avoid a ban!

@@kgp4death this device alone will not mod your switch. This device is more for convenience after you already have the mods installed. If you don’t have a modded switch already then you need to go through the process of doing that first. Depending on your switch that could be relatively easy because it unpatched or very hard because you’re trying to install a mod chip. Google is my switch patched, and go down the rabbit hole from there.

What does the rcm loader actually do ? After just plugging this in like shown are you able to play roms from a sdcard ?

Once the RCM Loader is loaded, yes thats one of the features, you can even install custom firmware so that you can load pirated games at system startup among other things.

@@CM-1723 RCM loader is technically easier the most of the stuff you need is already. But its technically incomplete and outdated. But you can easily bridge from there to get the best CFW and stuff.

So do you need one of them wether you use the rcm loader or use a USB wire connected to the pc ? Are switch game roms available ?. Do you have a option to boot into CFW and the original for use online

@@CM-1723 I am assuming you are a newbie since you have so many questions. You're just gonna get confused. NH Switch Guide is a website that can help with the whole thing. But technically yes, you can get both CFW and then official for online, but it's very complicated to do.

You need to have a prepped SD card with the appropriate files on it to boot into hekate. It if your V1 switch is unpatched, you don’t need a mod chip (but you can put one in if you want to make reboots easier)

As long as you’ve got the latest HATS pack on an sd card it still works on early, unpatched devices.

I'm lookin' into getting an unpatched switch! Though, when you mean by "let the battery die" does that mean the switch reverts the mod if the battery run out of juice?

Exactly! If you let the battery die, or do a full power off shut down (as opposed to normal sleep power off), you’ll need to do these steps again. Easy, but can be mildly inconvenient.
