Just a couple of tips for you, my man. 1. Get a smaller soldering iron, you struggled way too much on SP1 and SP2 points. With the right tool those take like 2 mins max. 2. Apply kapton tape on top of those, it's a known issue that if they get pressed to firm when closing the switch and screwing the cooling pad, they can touch with the top lid and making them short to ground. 3. As an extra help, you can pre tin the pads so it's way easier when it's on the console. But this is just optional, not really necessary. I've done like 30 of these, so it's just honest good tips, not hate. Keep practicing.

Just a tip for next time, try pre-tin the solder pads on the flex cables. Also, try trimming the plastic border off large ground pads (on the flex pcb), thisll allow their mechanical connection to the switch PCB to be stronger. Great video!

11:16 You should put kapton tape on the inner side of the nand shield (Ground). Many people skip this crucial step. After some time, the solder blob will short with the nand shield due to the nature of it being a handheld (dropping, moving).

Thank you very much for this tutorial. My picofly just arrived yesterday and was the exact same model as yours, so I managed to mod my switch OLED successfully. Initially I panicked because after installing it, it booted to the normal OFW and blinked long-short indicating a problem with D0 connection. Although I measured the point and it showed 0,7V. I taked away the D0 adapter and reseated it and now it works. Just weird it didn't work the first time, as the voltage reading was correct.

Yes and no. Early version of switches (v1s) you can do this without a mod chip, but in later versions (v2s), they patched out the initial flaw of the hardware and the community hasn’t found another way around that yet, and probably won’t for a while, hence the need for a mod chip.

This is an old, terrible method that no one sane in modding community recommends. Use _only_ the "kamikaze" method, with dremeling a tiny hole in the pcb right above DAT0. Also, this is an old Picofly V2 and not the current recommended RP2040-Zero one (or even Tiny), running ancient FW, to boot. Update to 2.73, at least.
@garog85842 ай бұрын
Hell man, stop doing this or start using proper tools for it. Your cutter for example is just crap. Use another soldering iron with a smaller tip. Dont overheat the caps an the cpu. Remove some material around the pads from the DAT0 adapter, then its easier to solder it. because of your "rough" work, you nearly killed a resitor, look at 13:00. And you nearly killed some traces at the pcb because of your crapy cutter, check 12:32 to see it. and dont look what you did to the chips corner at 13:42. dont use tweezers to remove the silk screen, use a fiberglass brush for it. use more tape to fix stuff and so on. videos like this are the reasons why peoply kill they switch.
