Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack | Is This Just The Beginning. Nintendo Switch Online is a paid service that lets players go…well, online, on Nintendo Switch. To justify charging for what used to be a free feature, Nintendo regularly adds NES and SNES titles to a digital library that NSO players can access. Last month, they announced that Nintendo 64 and Genesis games would be joining that lineup, but at a price. You’ll need the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack upgrade to access them. Initially, the pricing and release date were not announced, but today we have our answer.

They're not going to decrease the price thanks to the pointless inclusion of Sega genesis games that you can already permanently buy on the system via the collection. I'll admit I might feel slightly bad for the few people who actually do buy it at this ridiculous price point when it gets shut down in a couple of years due to a lack of purchases to cover sega's royalty fee

That's crazy, US gamers get a $30 yearly price increase with the expansion pass, while UK Gamers like me get a £17 yearly price increase from it's £17.99 yearly price! Gamers in the European Union get a €20 price increase from its €19.99 yearly price in EU member countries! As for gamers in Japan, they have to pay ¥2,500 ($25) extra from its ¥2,400 ($24) yearly price! It's crazy that how much we have to pay extra for the expansion pass yearly differs from where we come from!

50 or 60 dollars a year from nes ,super nes, Gameboy advance,n64 gamecube and wii would be worth it in my opinion and if it include all dlc for news games I'd be fine with it but right now what their doing it isn't worth it.

I don’t understand renting the animal crossing dlc, especially because it adds new game mechanics to the base game like the counters and walls. If you ever were to unsubscribe from nso how will the game react to not having access to the dlc? Will the items just be deleted? Will it even let you open the game until you buy dlc permanently or resubscribe? I have a feeling games could be held hostage in a way if this continues

Meanwhile Nintendo can't even offer all the characters on the internet browser, so if you're password has a unique character like a £ symbol you can't actually enter it...they've been absolutely pathetic at upgrading the switch OS and for me the steam deck can't come fast enough.

They can't even offer Gameboy, GBA, Gamecube, and Wii on top of Genesis and N64 with better servers supported and online features at $50 a year. Neither Sony or Microsoft can compete with Nintendo in the nostalgia category or the amount of genre defining games and yet Nintendo still screws it up. Imagine if Nintendo got to license out Dreamcast from Sega, holy smokes. You'd have every Switch flying off the shelves everywhere.

Adding a new library of games will cause the price to go up from 50 to 75, especially if they add gamecube, GB, GBC, and GBA games. Not to mention there are other libraries of games from other systems people want to play again, such as the DS, 3DS, and Wii. If you thought the price wouldn't go up after adding a new system, you are in for a rude awakening..

Nintendo isn't Sony or Microsoft. They will get away with this because it's $50 so it's less than $10 than it's competitors yearly. Tbh I was playing these old games via emulation anyways so I'm okay which by the way allows for a library of hundred titles that will never come to this service because of license issues, though if you want these games then go ahead but yeah this isn't a good sign...their online needs improvements and they need to bring new games they give for their memberships like Sony/Microsoft but it will be a cold day in hell before Nintendo makes a new Zelda or Mario game free via subscription lol is it worth it? That depends if you was on Nintendo then yea but if you was playing mostly on Sony/Microsoft or PC then yeah not something I need.

It means it’s a massive downgrade compared to what we had before. I bought Zelda ocarina of time in 2009 on the Wii and have been able to use it on my WiiU just fine. Paid $12 JUST ONCE and I’m able to keep it forever. $50 a year every year (unless they increase it) is a ridiculous and nonsensical price hike

I don't think Nintendo is going to back-track on this since the switch is succesful right now and they want to take advantage of it by charging 50$ a year for old games yes you can play them online but tbe service can bearly function let alone have more issues down the line i'll stick with playing n64 games on acual hardware.

Price seems fine. It was never gonna stay at 20, with competitors charging double or more for the same thing just with a few trash games they give for free. Like they aren't giving away Pokemon Snap caliber stuff on PSN.

Dude, what on earth are you even talking about? I got Control, Hollow Knight, Fall Guys, A Plague's Tale, Crash Bandicoot N'Sane Trilogy, Resident Evil 7, Hitman 2, Monster Hunter Worlds, Overcook 1 and 2, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Star Wars Squadrons, and Uncharted 4 all through PS Plus. A few trash games? I got a year subscription on sale for $35. Nintendo's service doesn't even come close to PS Plus in terms of cost and worth.
