Whoever did the previous soldering job, that solder blob was a masterpiece and interesting subject for a museum piece. Its lucky that no other components went faulty because of that short. Alex, as always, excellent work to fix it back to as pristine as possible.

They likely had a hard time desoldering with the equipment they had and tried the ol' "heat everything at once with a big solder blob" technique. It does work on some components but I have a hard time believing it would ever work for a USBC port 😅

@@OccasusRaven I got it to work eventually, but I had to re do it like 4 times and melted the connector lol. It worked for another year or two then the hinges on the screen started to break and I retired the laptop. I never tried repairing again after that tho. That’s how i started also. Not knowing the importance of flux. My solder has always had flux in it, but usually it’s not enough. Also a microscope is a must. At least i can’t see what i’m doing without one 😄

Can anyone explain to me how the "technician" managed to do that huge solder blob on the connector? I'm not a professional repair technician, but I've never managed to do that.
@bmxscape10 ай бұрын
They see the technique of dragging the solder tip across the pads, leaving solder on each pad but no bridging. they tried this technique with way too large of a tip, on way to small of pins, bridging every pad. then they had no idea how to remove the solder to try again
