Poever I like the WiiU as well, but it was a dark period for Nintendo simply due to how starved it was for games, or at the very least ones that weren’t either old games or spin-offs. The 3DS is what basically kept Nintendo relevant during that era, especially in late 2015 and the entirety of 2016.

Hi there! Just dropping in to laugh at one of those rumors because the Wii U could in fact play GameCube games flawlessly. They run natively due to the fact that there's basically a Wii inside the Wii U, and the Wii itself is just a more powerful GameCube. You can run GameCube games on a hacked Wii U at 1080p.

@@Matanumi Nintendont acts as a data bridge between the .iso file and the hardware itself, there's no emulation going on. Tapping into backwards compatibility Nintendo never did anything with, but existed because of the Wii chip in the Wii U. Controls were weird on a Wiimote and Nunchuck combo, but you could use a pro controller or something in a USB port and configure it yourself.

It was amazing seeing all the rumor for the Switch/NX. I remember thinking the whole cartridge thing was fake since it felt backwards, and in hindsight is in some cases, but glad they went through with it. But let un never forget that time Etika went as far as to commission a fake replica Switch just to mess with us... may he rest easy

looking at these games and trailers now, as a PS4 fangirl, I have to admit that the Switch's library has become more appealing to me than that of the PS4. I used to not care about the Switch, but ever since the time around the release of Pokemon Let's Go (which turned out not that great, unfortunately), the Switch's library has received some awesome additions. Congrats Nintendo! Me and my sister both enden up buying a Switch. Because the roster of games available is awesome. Zelda, Smash, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Xenoblade Chronicles, Octopath Traveller, Fire Emblem, Ni no Kuni, Bayonetta, even The Witcher 3... and what more is to come, like Metroid, Shin Megami Tensei, BotW2. I hope they bring over Kingdom Hearts and NieR Automata to the Switch. Coming from a Playstation fan.

22:56 "Apparently the Switch's increased power over Wii U allowed for proper GameCube emulation which is why Nintendo avoided GameCube during the Wii U era" Bullshit. The Wii U had a fully functioning Virtual Wii mode. The Wii was just a clocked up GameCube. The only thing stopping you from playing GameCube games on the Wii U is the Wii U not recognizing GameCube discs on the VWii screen. However, this can be bypassed altogether. You can install the homebrew channel on the VWii and running software like Nintendon't, you can play GameCube games on the Wii U flawlessly. Even games like Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike run without issue so it was well within the Wii U's capabilities to run essentially any GameCube game. (You can even play TriForce games like Mario Kart Arcade on it). The only reason I can think of as to why they never added GameCube VC is the lack of analog triggers for the controllers. Yet, they had the adapter for GameCube controllers for Smash 4 that could have been used (Hell, you can play these games with the Wii U Pro Controller and whatnot, it's just kinda awkward for games built with analog triggers in mind). At least with the Switch, the selling point is it's portability so having games require a control method that only works when the thing is docked would be pretty dumb. With the Wii U, that excuse was...significantly weaker, especially when they were selling Wii games on the eShop. The fact that they never even sold software on the eShop that the Wii U is technically backwards compatible with is nothing short of insane.
