One can argue that any video game fan base (including the Mario fan base) can be incredibly gullible at times. My advise is this: If there’s a piece of information that’s yet to be officially confirmed or revealed, take it with a grain of salt, AND always root for the actual sources (sometime even ones with accurate claims and sources)

When I was a little kid in elementary school, a rumor was going around that you could get a black yoshi by getting to an uninhabited island on top of donut plains, the one above of the top-secret area. Supposedly the black yoshi had the powers of all 4 yoshi colors when it ate any shell. I have no idea of the origins of it though. This rumor, the mew under the truck rumor, and Luigi in Mario 64 were the three big ones from my childhood

Quick little fact check - the "Revolution" series games are fully produced by Konami (Or Konami/Bemani, formerly Konami G.M.D.). Harmonix makes the _"Dance Central"_ series games, along with Guitar Hero (until the sale to Neversoft/VV), Rock Band, and Fuser. DDR Mario Mix was produced by Konami & _Hudson Soft_ - thus, the Nintendo connection until Hudson's full acquisition by Konami in 2012. (I'm assuming the mix-up was with Hudson/Harmonix)

I remember people claiming that Luigi’s Mansion would be the first Teen Rated Mario game. Speaking of Waluigi in Super Mario 64 DS, I would’ve loved to have seen an original 3D Mario for the DS considering that it could handle a port of Super Mario 64 with additional content. Heck I would be down for Nintendo to do a 2D Mario game that had the structure of 64, Sunshine, and Odyssey. Basically a reverse Super Mario 3D Land or if Super Mario 63 and Super Mario Power Star Frenzy were official.

I loved how prevalent Mario rumors were back in the 2000’s. The reason why everyone thought they were real was because you couldn’t really fact-check that stuff as easily as you can now. Nobody had the ability to look through the game’s files. Now, because of all the fact and file checking going on, rumors can literally be debunked at the drop of a hat.

One big piece of misinformation in this video at 7:37 says that DDR is made by Harmonix, which is untrue. DDR is developed by Konami's in house BEMANI division, with DDR Mario Mix in specific being outsourced to HudsonSoft. Harmonix did make other rhythm games, like Amplitude and Rock Band, but NOT DDR.

Yeah, conflation of details. Konami approached Harmonix to create Karaoke Revolution, but Harmonix was never involved in DDR. This isn't the first time some sort of misattribution to Harmonix has taken place, I remember someone quipping about how "Harmonix ruined the DDR Extreme interface" referring to the US PS2 release, and that quote was tossed around endlessly, but needless to say Harmonix was not involved. Harmonix may have known about DDR projects by nature of their arrangement with Konami, but they likely did not have any significant hand in the actual DDR games. I would be intrigued to learn otherwise, but I don't anticipate it. DDR Mario Mix was developed by Konami and Hudson Soft.

@@VxJasonxV I worked at harmonic for a couple of years long ago and I have no recollection of any ddr related projects. I wouldn't say I could deconfirm any connection, but I have absolutely no proof of any connection existing. Their relationship with Konami was purely based on KR, but I'm sure there were talks about possible other titles. I know that the lawsuit Konami levied against Harmonix really soured the relationship. Rock Revolution was also a thing for some reason. Harmonix had nothing to do with that, it's just amazing that someone at Konami thought it was a good idea.

​@@lpnp9477 Rock Revolution was a thing because of the long running series of Guitar Freaks and Drum Mania, running since ~99 and still to this day (in Japan anyway). Konami said "hey we already did this work, it might be popular in the US now?" and then… I don't think I need to explain what the reception of and future of that game has been.

The "Party Mode" in the Mario Kart Maximum rumor is just stupid. What you get from item boxes is already randomized, turning them into "dice rolls" wouldn't change anything mechanically. I don't understand how anyone who's played any Mario Kart game would believe that, let alone make the claim
