The fact that this was cut tells you everything you need to know about 2016-2017 Nintendo. They were so utterly terrified of the switch failing like the Wii U that they were willing to do anything, including scrapping this to be more like other online storefronts.

I actually believe it's due to the way the eShop is implemented into the system. The eShop and Nintendo Switch Online applets are ran using webpages. The included internet browser on the Switch is very limited due to it being cut down to the bare essentials. This allows you to visit the eShop and Nintendo Switch Online applets while running a game. They also have very limited memory allocated to them (even less while running games). Trying to add music to the eShop with those constraints probably wasn't possible in a way that runs well. I'd hope that on the successor if they have more ram available we'll see better performance in both the eShop and Nintendo Online applets.

The Switch as a system is so devoid of personality. This could have given it some much needed life. Kinda ridiculous how there are no menu themes, no shop music, nothing. Just tiles for your games and a few bubbles made with simple lines and flat colors. Dunno why they skimped so hard on it.

The eShop is actually a webpage. Your correct, however I believe Nintendo was testing sounds on the page and I also believe the web page code that was used wasn't the most powerful to have sound, so if there was music planned (which there was, based off the files), then the weak web page wouldn't allow it l, this whatever was meant to be played was scrapped.

It’s a shame. You can tell the removal of this shop theme was a bit of a transition era for Nintendo. While I love the switch and it’s incredible library of games, it definitely seems more formal than the Wii and Wii U era where everything was so bouncy and even the menus felt like games on their own. If this theme was removed, then I bet there were other music themes that were considered such as a settings theme.

So, the theme of what could of potentially been an actual, properly functioning eShop app with that Nintendo charm kept in. The fact that the eShop experience has been effectively left in the same clunky state as it launched in 2017 is asinine. I never want to use it, and I'm sure many others feel the same.
