Nintendo WFC Shutdown 3rd Anniversary Stream on the 20th May, and CTGP update info!

On Saturday, 20th May 2017, me, SwordofSeals ( / sword0fseals ) and Chadderz will be doing an all day live stream, starting 11:00AM BST, in celebration of the Nintendo WFC shutdown's 3rd anniversary. It will be hosted at / mrbean35000vr . We will be playing many different WFC games over the custom server Wiimmfi, primarily Mario Kart, but we will also be doing some other games (e.g. Brawl, Mario Strikers, Mario Kart DS, maybe Pokémon) as well. As it promises to be a 16+ hour stream, please tune it at any point on the Saturday after the start time if you feel like it, and join us on the games if you have access to Wiimmfi!
Furthermore, CTGP track updates will be resuming soon, sadly not as soon as I'd hoped (I wanted to have it out before this video), but it won't be long from here now. We will resume weekly updates, or possibly decrease the rate to fortnightly, and gradually catch up with all the tracks we've missed in the long time since we last updated.
Finally, you can probably expect more Zelda content, given how well it's been going down :P

I find it absolutely baffling that Wiimmfi has been around for 3 years now, especially at the strength it's at. Thank you Wiimm and Leseratte for staying with it for this long. Honestly, I feel like the Nintendo WFC shutdown should have been a much bigger deal than it actually was, but thanks to Wiimmfi, I've barely noticed that anything has changed at all. Endless thanks to Wiimm and Leseratte for allowing us to keep playing our old favourite games online!

So glad to see that after basically 3 years, the servers are still going strong, heck for Mario Kart Wii we're seeing the league get back to the level of strength it had prior to Wiimmfi (with likely 7 divisions on Regular Tracks and 3 divisions on Custom Tracks). Honestly can't thank you (Bean and Chadderz), Wiimm, Lesaratte and many more enough, for all the amazing experiences we would never have had if it weren't for Wiimmfi and the CTGP-R pack (of which, believe it or not, I played CTGP 2.8 and 4.4 as a young kid under the name LAB Peppy in a few of the like... early 2011 funrooms). I'll try being there to celebrate (inbetween the league work and stuff), but regardless, here's to many more successful years of keeping the Wii gaming communities alive through such amazing inventions.

Hey I know you might not see this Mrbean, but over the last month I've been working on and perfecting 4 custom tracks that I think would be awesome to share with everyone when completely finished. I haven't tried to play them on wiimmfi yet.. I'm not even sure if I can. Is there a way to do that? and if not, is there possibly a way to where I may be able to submit these?

hi! i couldn't find the "message" option to send you a message on here for a bit of help, but i'd like to start out by saying that i love what you, chadderz, and wiim have done for the mkw (amongst other wii games') community by releasing this to the public. i do have a couple of questions though. over the last 3 years, i've reinstalled CTGP-R a few times and each time my savegame has been lost. this time though, i backed up all the files from my old CTGP-R folder on my SD card, so i still have the old ones in the case i could switch a few files. what i'm wondering is - which files correspond to VR and game progress? i've had to manually beat the entire mario kart wii game for all the characters/1 star rating probably 4 times since the shutdown! is there any way i can pinpoint the files i need to keep whenever i redownload CTGP-R from the site? I'd really like to stop this whole restarting business every time i want to worldwide. plus i have a few decent time trial records i'd like to keep locally instead of just on the online TT leaderboards (a function i really appreciate, by the way! thank you!). anyways, i hope you can find a way to message me or reply to me, it would be most helpful! you're awesome, thanks so much for doing what you do!!

Usually means your Wii can't connect to the Internet. Restart it, or check the settings. Or if you have no Internet connection to begin with, turn the automatic updates off.

Hey MrBean35000vr, some tracks in CTGP are a bit.. unstable.. on my Wii, the frame drops are insane, my Wii just can not handle the tracks all that well. Could this be because I have a PAL Wii? Or are the tracks just way too heavy for a Wii to handle? If so, please remove those tracks if you could. Thank you, and I love the things you do for us, keep on going!

As a suggestion, you should put in some of the tracks that Reo showcases. They're pretty good tracks to be honest, and I think they would be better substitutes for some of the tracks in CTGP-R as of now since they are more recently made.

Could you at some point allow this on Dolphin Emulator? Without being able to use CTWW so know one can cheat in an online game? I really want to play this game again I use to play it on my old Wii but it is in some cupboard and covered in dust and I wouldn't want to get it all out again and set it up when I could play this game on my GTX 1080 powered PC. I hope you can somehow get this to work on Dolphin as this would be something I would play very often and would make lots of other people that are very appeased about this happy. I know you never wanted it to be playable on the Emulator but surely you could find a way to get it on their and avoid your issue of cheaters. Thanks!

Yeah I would love to see this on Dolphin Emulator. The you could play this in full HD and as people dont use their Wii's anymore and people didn't buy the Wii U because it is a fail it would be great if this became a reality. I hope that it does someday!!

Unfortunately Dolphin is not supported not only just because of cheaters but also because Bean doesn't want to be associated with piracy, which is why even on console, an original Mario Kart Wii disc is required.

Fixes a bug that would very rarely cause a player to get an error after track selection online. - Updates I wonder how many people aside from me had that happen. Guess not very many and since last I played, it hasn't happened since.

The odds of it happening were absolutely tiny. I managed to go through the past half a year or so since the bug was introduced without encountering it once. The only reason I found that it existed was due to those exception reports that get automatically sent to us when the game crashes.

I know you've probably answered it 1034932820398430984 times but what is it about MK:wii that you actually like so much? I thought it was painfully dull (I sunk 400+ hours into it and that's my conclusion) compared to the great MK64 and Double Dash. I actually like 8 and 8 Deluxe WAY more than Wii... It seems to be that the people who like Wii think it's the best one and everyone else thinks it's bad. I would like someone who is more versed to give me their opinion... I don't play for mechanics, I play because it's cheap, senseless fun.

You know something, when I picked up Mario Kart Wii and played it for the first time, I thought I was going to hate it. I thought it was way too simplistic and dull. But there was just so much going for it - strong online multiplayer, the leaderboards, competitions, etc, that I always found myself coming back. There was a depth to it beyond what I appreciated when I first played it, and that became obvious with the expansion of the leaderboards and the online communities. I also find the items neat, they're not so strong that every race is left up to chance, but there's hardly ever a situation where a race feels hopeless, and that's something I really like. Cheap senseless fun is, to me, just too shallow. I can't get on board with MK8 and MK8DX because I don't really feel like I'm playing the game, it feels like the game plays itself, never quite in control and I'm just waiting to see what random event will screw me over this time. But if you want a game that truly is simplistic and chaotic, then MK8, MK8DX and Double Dash are perfect. But Double Dash will always be better in my eyes because it too had hidden depth. I guess MKW's problem was that it really didn't do anything special (aside from the unexpectedly good online service), so it doesn't stand out. The Wii wheel and bikes aren't really special. But while it doesn't stand out, it plays just right, and when it comes to longevity of a game, I feel that's all that matters.

Fair enough. You like it because of it's middle of the road stance. I can respect that :) I've always liked feeling one bad shell away from death and 12th (or 8th back in the day). If i wanted proper racing i'd play simulation racers (which I do regularly) where you are completely in control of what happens. Mario Kart is the opposite for me and I love it for that.

I mean, when I started playing Mario Kart, I was just in it for the zany fun, but every single Mario Kart game up to and including MKW came with far more depth than expected, and for me, it was fun to explore it, and in the end I came to expect it, whatever form it took.

Hmmm yes, I can see then why Mario kart 8 and Deluxe would frustrate/bore you. Because there really isn't any depth outside of what you see. You can't snake, they removed Fire hopping, You can't low jump (As far as I know) and it's pretty solid in terms of not letting you shortcut unintentionally. I suppose the only hope for you and people like you who love the hidden depth is to break into the machine and put some in there yourself :P That might be a bit above the call of duty though (and possibly illegal?) since you'd basically be changing the code of the game. Custom tracks and speedhacks can only get you so far if the core experience isn't fulfilling.
