I know your gratitude, but as a fan I don't feel Nintendo did enough for fans. Aside from Sakurai willing to talk for Mii costume, I don't see other Mario directors try to bring back Mallow and Geno as playable characters in any other game, so that's still quite unpleasant. At this point their future still need to be in concern. They need more good news.

I love how the way the characters are short is imitating how they looked in the SNES, the music remixes are insanely good, everything looks like a 1 to 1 recreation but even better, can't wait to see the cutscenes, which seem to be for the dialogue scenes like Bowser breaking into Booster's Castle or Geno coming to life and also looks like it's for the special attacks like Mallow's Thunderbolt, which is even cooler.

I love how close it is to the old pre-rendered graphics, the models are just remade to modern standards and rendered in real-time but they still have their squat, toy-like proportions. It does look like they changed the combat a little bit, hopefully not too much (a classic mode would be nice). I'm just glad a new generation will be able to experience this game, it was my first RPG and it's this version of the characters that I'll always think of as their true personalities.

This game is a shining gem in my childhood memories, man.. I randomly found it at a rental shop back then and fell in love. It was my first introduction to rpgs and I was terrible at the game for a long time and I adored every minute of it. My only internet access at the time was at my school's library, so I'd spend my breaks browsing early fansites and printing out stock artwork of the characters. I even had Bowser's castle w/ Exor painted on my bedroom wall at some point.

I am 33 now, I might have been 6 or 7 when I rented this, I had no idea how to play but I remember loading a file from someone else who rented it and they were at boosters tower and I just wandered around while I was drinking a doctor pepper 😂. Then I played Pokémon and ff3 for NES and learned how to play rpgs so I got the game and played it properly, I always love it. Whenever I replay it I always crack a Dr Pepper when I get to boosters tower 😂 I’ll be sure to do that with this remake!

I saw this and said to myself "Oh, theyre bringing Mario RPG to SNES Online." Then it hit me as soon as I saw the twinkling star. I immediately erupted into tears. This was my first RPG. I've played this game so much that I've replaced the save state battery on my cartridge going on four times now. I can't believe I live in a universe that gets this remake. I hope it's longer and even better than the original. Thank you Nintendo and Square Enix! This is how I was hoping a remake would look if it ever happened. You've made a little kid from the past very happy today.

These similarities include: Paper Mario was originally going to be called Super Mario RPG 2, but was later renamed "Super Mario Adventure" (while still in development) due to legal reasons. Eventually, it received its finalized international title to emphasize the unique graphical style of the game. As with Super Mario RPG, Bowser is the very first boss to be fought in the game. After the cutscene that takes place when Mario is defeated by Bowser, the Paper Mario logo is displayed similarly to how the Super Mario RPG logo (sans subtitle) is displayed after Exor crashes into Bowser's Keep and destroys the Star Road. In Super Mario RPG, as Mario goes to free Peach after defeating Bowser, Smithy's gang sends Exor crashing into the castle, the impact sending Mario flying, landing back at his house. In Paper Mario, as Mario is fighting Bowser, Bowser makes himself invincible with the Star Rod, then dispatches Mario out a window, and he crash lands in a field just outside Goomba Village. In both games, Bowser's castle is unreachable throughout most of the story. In Super Mario RPG, it cannot be reached because the bridge is down; in Paper Mario, the castle is up in the sky. Also, both games feature a special vehicle that is used to reach the castle (the Royal Bus and Star Ship, respectively). Mario uses jump and hammer attacks, which in both games have regular, super, and ultra variations. Both have the three hammer variants, but the jump variants in Super Mario RPG are special moves Mario learns, whereas Paper Mario has these variants as the boots Mario finds to improve his jumping ability. The Power Bounce Badge is reminiscent of Mario's Super Jump ability in Super Mario RPG. Mario's first party member in both games has a special move that identifies the enemy (Mallow's "Psychopath" and Goombario's "Tattle"). Both games feature a special area where Mario can turn into 8-bit Mario, complete with 8-bit sounds and music. In both games, Mario can travel to an island where Yoshis live. During the second boss battle with Bowser, he can temporarily disable some of Mario's commands, similar to how Bowyer disables certain button commands during his battle in Super Mario RPG. When Lava Piranha re-emerges from the lava after the first phase of the battle, it resembles Czar Dragon's resurrection as Zombone. Both games feature a volcano as a location where a star is hidden. Both areas have an escape sequence after locating the Star, though the reason behind it is different (in Super Mario RPG, the Axem Rangers are escaping with the Star; in Paper Mario, the volcano is erupting). The endings in both games feature a parade that is led by Luigi and ends with a fireworks display. Both Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario feature a Hammer Bro who hosts a quiz game. During the parade in the ending of Paper Mario, Twink flies by with Mario and Peach waving at him on a starlit float, as Geno does in Super Mario RPG. Both games feature antagonist groups that are based on characters from TV series (the Koopa Bros. are based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, while the Axem Rangers are based on Super Sentai). In both games, the battle for the sixth star takes place in the sky (the Axem Rangers battle and the Huff N. Puff battle). Both games have a party member who fights against Mario first before joining him (Bowser and Lakilester). Both Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario have three-headed Piranha Plant bosses (Smilax and Lava Piranha). The battle systems of both games contain a feature where correctly timed player input makes the protagonists perform better overall. Super Mario RPG has "timed hits", while Paper Mario has "action commands". Both games feature a sidequest involving helping an artist (Toadofsky in Super Mario RPG and the Master Poet in Paper Mario) complete a piece of music, though the specifics of how they're resolved is different.

This makes me SO HAPPY to see. It is impossible to state how incredibly amazing, original, fun, and INCREDIBLY ahead of it’s time the original Super Mario RPG was. It was smart, clever, fun, well-written, and it took most of the established Mario tropes and turned them on their head WAY back in 1996. For example, I’m pretty sure this was the first game that utilized Bowser as a fully playable character and member of the hero’s team. This might seem like a small thing now, but back in 1996 nothing like that had ever been done before in a major game - the established long-term villain (and initially anticipated villain of this game) becoming somewhat humanized and turning into a player-character.

It was so revolutionary. Mario 64, sunshine, etc all built on that original platform game. Paper Mario came after this one, that’s the only other RPG I can think of. The fact you can customize your team, the ingenuity of bringing in a whole cast of new characters but somehow all of them fit the Mario world perfectly. Having so many side quests or hidden things throughout the world gave it such replay value imo. Man. Simpler times. Im even looking forward to the annoying jump diagonally forward onto falling platforms while holding down the sprint button thing.

The company who made Final Fantasy helped develop the game I guess Paper Mario 64/Thousand Year Door play very similarly, but Mario RPG feels the most Final Fantasy-like, it almost feels like someone modded an FF game with Mario assets. The Paper Mario and Mario&Luigi series sorta branched off into their own subvariants of Mario RPGs gameplay system, which all feel very similar to eachother but also feel different/streamlined in alot of ways. TL/DR it plays similarly to thousand year door, but not a 1:1 exact copy

A million people've already said this, but this is super nostalgic for me. I remember my older brother playing this when I was a kid, then I got interested and played it myself. This game lives in my memory, and a large part of that is the soundtrack. Everyone knows which song exactly. Forest Maze, often mistake for Geno's theme. Sometimes I just hear that familiar melody play in my head out of nowhere, despite having not played the game in many many years. The ost keeps that game in my memory so that I never forget the days and weeks and months spent watching or playing this fantastic game. I'm so glad they're bringing it to Switch, and the remastered soundtrack sounds fantastic. For all your greed over the years Nintendo, I'll put that aside for now. and say thank you for bringing this back to old and new players alike. It's a crine this wasn't done sooner.

Half my anticipation is hearing all the original songs redone with an orchestra. What they’ve shown already sounds amazing but yes the Forest Maze track is one I can’t wait to hear how they arrange it.

Actually there aren't so much people who loves or knows Mario RPG. But it's an open world game which we are waiting for so long, so I'm sure even new fans will love this.

@@toshtao1 ehhhh, maybe spiritually, but it was a very different personality. I love the Paper games, but they are not this game. Not sure what they would do with a sequel to SMRPG, but would love to see it. I hear this may be testing the waters for interest.

​@@beauwalker9820 If that's the case, hopefully the Super Mario RPG series doesn't compete with the Mario & Rabbids series like how they deviated Paper Mario because of the Mario & Luigi series. I love both Paper Mario and the Mario & Luigi series. However, Paper Mario took a massive blow because of the executives' - and Miyamoto's - decision. I'm tired of seeing brilliant series being tarnished because of poor decision-making.

Mario & Rabbids is a tactical RPG, it's not quite the same genre. And now the future of the Mario & Luigi series doesn't seem so bright anymore with AlphaDream going under... so we don't have to worry about that either, even if it doesn't make me happy to say it, because it's not like I hated those games. (And it makes the decision to change Paper Mario even sillier now in hindsight, but oh well... at least Origami King finally managed to hit the mark, even if it's not perfect)

For those saying that the original graphics were 3D,the exact word is "pre-rendered". A technique also used on the Donkey Kong Country games. Of those, those are new, fully-3D graphics for the Switch version.

Do yourself a favor. Download an emulator for your phone and play it. I promise it's the best. Nothing beats playing it on a super nintendo but we work with what we got. 🥹

@@thegohan2728 I guess this explains why it isn't in their Switch SNES library. I always found that odd. But it IS on the Super NES Classic system they released, along with Super Mario World, Kirby's Superstar, Yoshi's Island, Kirby's Dream Course (kirby golf is a guilty pleasure of mine), Donkey Kong... so worth it.

Im honestly in tears right now. This has been my favorite game of all time since I was a kid and still own a copy of it on the super Nintendo. I replayed it once or twice each year and never gotten tired of it. Can't wait to relive it in a different way. Hopefully, i can get the 100 jumps treasure this time 😆
