One thing about Japanese culture and history, is nearly every single castle and temple has been rebuilt. In Japanese culture they see renewing the authenticity of what it originally looked liked gives you a more accurate idea of the true history. With this idea, the whole idea of an “original structure” is nearly irrelevant to the Japanese. Because of this, it could be very possible the temple of time ruins we see in BOTW are not the original bricks, and explains why the temple could move and change yet retain its identity as the temple of time. Japanese gods reside in the ideas of things, so if a temple is moved or reconstructed, it’s identity and holiness moves along with it. So in reality every temple of time we see is spiritually the same temple, even if it isn’t the same literal building. Same with hyrule castle etc.

Naydra's corruption is odd, however its connection to the Spring of Wisdom may be a bit more important than once thought. In most Zelda games, Zelda herself usually had a direct connection to the Triforce of Wisdom. Ganondorf, being over 10,100 years old at this point, would likely have remembered this little tidbit of information, and thus would have engineered Calamity Ganon to attack the Spring of Wisdom with malice in hopes of weakening Zelda's power. Naydra, the protector/guardian of the Spring of Wisdom, could have been infected by the malice during its attempt to protect the Spring, and remained infected with malice ever since due to the fact that very few travelers are ever allotted the ability to see any of the Dragons throughout BotW.

One thing that has always nagged at me is why is there so much malice around Tabantha tower. All the other places we see large pools of it, Akkala Citadel, Hyrule Castle, the Colosseum, almost all of them are places where it can be assumed a lot of death happened. Think of how many soldiers died defending the Citadel and the civilians that likely fled to it who also perished in it; most of the people in castle town and those within the castle proper didn't make it out alive. It all begs the question...what happened around that tower to cause malice to form in such large quantities around it? I mean, the closest settlement to it is the Rito Village. Yes there are ruins around it but those ruins were in that state even before the Calamity as we can see from the memory at the nearby shrine. It's something that has always puzzled me about that tower.
@totakikay3 жыл бұрын
I heard a theory from a BOTW game theorist (on youtube) that the ancient Clock Town (from Majora’s Mask era) was located where the current large crater near Tabantha Tower is. The theory was that the crater was formed when the moon destroyed Clock Town in the ancient past. I believe the reason so much pool of Malice surrounds Tabantha Tower was Ganon’s way of preventing the “soul” of the Hero, who is Link, from waking from his slumber in BOTW. It’s Ganon’s symbolic way of hating Link from always returning “time and time again.” It’s also the theory for Zelda - Zelda historically symbolizes the Triforce of Wisdom and Ganon infected the dragon spirit Naydra from the Spring of Wisdom in an attempt to destroy Zelda’s hold.

Zelda said it herself- there could be different lands out there beyond Hyrule Kingdom. I wouldn’t be surprised if those lands she speaks of could’ve manifested into parts of Hyrule Kingdom (like the crater theory) and arounds its borders in BOTW’s era based on the theory of timeline convergence.
@ouroboros57933 жыл бұрын
@@totakikay Termina only exists in a parallel state; Link and the Skull kid are the only beings in that world that aren't from it, and they entered it presumably through a different dimension. The canonical reason why all the citizens of Termina are counterparts to those from OoT is because they were created from Link's and Skull Kid's memories and are magical manifestations, along with the land of Termina itself. Nothing about Termina is authentic or physically part of the world Hyrule resides in, unlike Holodrum and other kingdoms/settlements. The same goes for Windfish Island as it wasn't real either. Though, yeah there are nods to those places in BoTW (At least for Windfish Isle) sure. But they're not, nor could they actually be a part of TLoZ's physical world. They also ceased to exist after their respective games ended. Time convergence doesn't and shouldn't bring back magically manifested locations that canonically, expired.

Also, depending on when Naydra was infected, the plan could've been to control her/him/it to attempt to kill all the champions and zelda in one swoop. A pretty smart plan if you think about it. The one thing that ganon didn't account for, is Naydra trying to fight back. It could've taken a while for the malice to reach Naydra and take control, or the malice could've taken control by then, but Naydra would refuse to harm them. Perhaps the fact that ganon had so much time to to attack means he grew strong enough to corrupt a deity but since the dragons will was so strong it managed to control it self a bit

I’m thinking the reason why only Naydra was affected by the malice, was because they planned on haveing all the dragons like that but either ran out of time or money to program the other 2. So sadly only Naydra was added. I would’ve loved to have the other 2 dragons affected, it would’ve been a great way to introduce the dragons

I'm new to the Zelda series but am such a sucker for things like this that were so obviously created with an insane level of care and attention to detail/story. BOTW was the first LOZ game I played all the way through and though I had friends who tried to get me into the series before, I never had a clue that the stories were so connected and had so much depth. Playing BOTW, there's an incredible feeling of hidden secrets and underlying stories, but since I never played the other games and otherwise only have wikis to rely on, I'd never know even half the extent to which those secrets delve without you and your fellow theorists! You do such a fantastic job of explaining the connections of all these fine details, and it makes it soooo much easier for someone like me to get really hooked on the lore(and everything that's yet to come). Thanks for doing what you do!

I agree with your theory but maybe there is an easier solution. Consider this: the dragons are guardians of the fountains, so, since zelda and her gang were at the spring of wisdom the day the calamity appeared, Naydra would have been there, actively watching them. The malice possibly lashed out wildly in all directions (maybe even aiming for zelda) and it hit Naydra. The other dragons did not necessarily even have to be underneath the cloud barrier at the time, or they had more time to get away. Maybe Naydra even (invisibly) took a hit of malice for zelda, or link, now wouldn't that make the story even better? I'm happy to say this is now my headcanon.

I have my own little theory on why only naydra was possesed: farosh and dinraal where able to fend the malice of due to the electricity/fire that engulfs them.naydra only makes the area around her cold,so the malice had no resistance to engulf her

Heres something interesting I've noticed: The cloud of Malice that flaots behind Levias (in concept art) and Naydra is seen in one more place: Age of Calamity's divine beasts, when the champions are fighting inside of them. My theory is that the black cloud of Malice appears when a entity is fighting against corruption or Malice.

I think the "poisonous bogs" from that one loading screen tip are the actual poisonous bogs that you can find in various places, like the one near the first shrine at the start of the game that has a platform with two chests on it. The ones where you drown instantly if you fall in, instead of swimming.

Well I think that the dragon was attempting to appear before Zelda but it seems she left in a hurry because she gave up. Meanwhile the dragon was waiting at the mountain peak and was hit by Ganon’s pure malice during his raising from underneath Hyrule Castle and bombarding all the technology throughout the land.

I saw a theory that explained it like this: Basically saying that the sheikah technology was based on the blue flame, created by the spring of wisdom. When Calamity Ganon spread the Malice during his attack it overrode the malice, since Naydra was the guardian the the spring of wisdom she took the full brunt of the charge

I always thought Naydra was corrupted due to the connection to being blessed by the Wisdom aspect of the Triforce and the same for the “ancient energy” that Malice corrupted in the sheikah tech and due to the lack of connection Zelda had with that shrine
@EvilJawa3 жыл бұрын
The parasitic spread of Malice is also possibly seen in Ocarina of Time. Gohma has a giant eye as a weak spot, and Great Deku Tree calls it a parasite. And Gohma spawns smaller versions, I had thought were meant to kill all the trees in the Kokiri Forest.
@Ghostjackal4823 жыл бұрын
Also: Wisdom= Zelda with Power and Courage being Ganondorf and Link. So the dragon of the Spring of Wisdom was taking over by malice while Zelda was holding back Ganon, Naydra kind of showed that with the connection between them. Then Link came and saved Naydra then Zelda.
@Ghostjackal4823 жыл бұрын
And Naydra might not have been killed like the Cursed Bokos Lizas, and Moblins. Because they are an immortal spirit and can’t be killed
