A playthrough of Sega's 1991 Sega Genesis beat 'em up, Golden Axe II.
Played through as Ax Battler on normal mode. I did quite well in my this time - far better than I expected on the ending tally, considering I died a few times at the last boss!

The way enemies go "bleh!" instead of using that chilling death-scream in the first game must have been pretty disappointing to a lot GA fans, but I think it's funny.

I also thought the "bleh" was out of place and disappointed. But at least the giant characters go "Uooooh..." Nevertheless Golden Axe II's enemy death screams are better than those in Golden Axe III.

I think it is because the enemies seem to be reptilian/human hybrids, they do not seem like ordinary humans...

A good followup to the original, incredibly popular Golden Axe. It isn't terribly original, but more of the same when it's this fun is alright by me.

Agree! When a game got the formula right, the audience just wants more of it. So skin changes, new levels, new baddies and music, while maintaining the core gameplay, was all they needed to do. And IMO, they really delivered! 🙌❤️

Understanding the importance of keeping all of your enemies on one side of you and not letting them surround you is how you beat this game and it translates to real world situations as well. This game and ones like it ingrained this strategy into my head at a young age and I still think about this when playing battle royal games today. When dropping into the map on BR games, I always aim for the edge of the map and try my best to stay on the outskirts of the ring as it moves inward, treating the center of the ring like lava. If I never played Sega and SNES, I don't know if I would stick to that strategy quite as stringently.

Decent sequel, far more to it than the original (I also kind of like Golden Axe III, though it gets panned a lot). However, shame on Sega for never giving us a home port of Golden Axe Revenge of Death=Adder (his actual name in RoDA).

This game scored low due to its easy difficulty. One was far harder than 2 or 3. I rented this, beat it, and returned it the same day.

To this very day I've never understood why this game never got made into either a movie or a TV series, it had all the right ingredients for it to be so

@NintendoComplete: No, because Conan and Red Sonja don't really have magical powers like the heroes in this game. Plus the enemy variety is superior, with minotaurs, skeletons, and other fantasy elements. A Golden Axe movie would be like a cross between the Ray Harryhausen fantasy adventures movies (Clash of the Titans, Sinbad, Jason and the Argonauts) and Conan. Plus they have the potential to do a crossover with other Sega characters, like Sonic the Hedgehog.

Ha-ha yeah I feel that. Most of the time I can't stand what passes for commentary on KZbin (though some ARE really well done). I started out doing just NES, but didn't want to start over once I started branching out.

They could not port something which was not even released, i.e., GAII was released in 1991 and GA: The Revenge of Death Adder in 1992.

The second GA had pretty good music. It's a bit easier than the first, but still tough. The enemy sounds are so awkward, though. The scoring system is so harsh: no matter how good you try, it's almost always low.
