As a kid, during my first summer camp, I made my mom swear to walk, feed, clean and pet my three dogs everyday. She had never used a console before so little 7 years old me explained everything to her. Years later, she confirmed to me she actually did it everyday for the THREE WEEKS I was out. She told me she was so scared they would die if she forgot, so everynight after a long day at work, she took care of my fake puppies. I love her so much ;_;

it’s crazy to me how Nintendo has yet to bring this game back despite the strong demand, especially with the massive success of the switch and how it’s literally made for handheld

i wonder if it has anything to do with the lack of a dual screen. im sure theres a way around it but it reminds me of the pokemon ranger games. they were SO GOOD but im not sure how it could come back without the DS. nintendogs is quite different tho so idk
@3amhellbeast9 ай бұрын
@grassgrows8 Probably more to do with the lack of a mic. They would need to add in some kind of auxiliary mic attachment for the switch for the voice commands, and because something like that isn't too subtle like it was in the DS it would probably break the immersion 😅
@GoodlyPenguin9 ай бұрын
@3amhellbeast Technically, the Switch has a mic feature. You can try it out yourself by plugging in non-mic earbuds into the Switch, play fortnite, then talk and see your mic activating on the lobby or even during gameplay. No other game enables this feature if I recall. It IS doable but Nintendo doesn't utilize their games to enable mic features

Okay, tragic backstory time: I LOVED this game growing up. My parents hate pets, so this is the closest thing I got to a dog, and I was OBSESSED. My first ever dog on this game was Pumpkin the pembroke welsh corgi. I loved Pumpkin. I would take a bullet for Pumpkin. I took care of her with the care of a newborn baby for YEARS. Then, one day, I got one of those action replay cheat devices from a GameStop. I was like, "Cool! Now I can unlock all the items I still don't have access to!" So I stuck the device in my DS, applied it to my Nintendogs game, and... It deleted my save. IT KILLED PUMPKIN. I was never the same, man. I had all these cool new items, and for what? What was the point without PUMPKIN?????? I CRIED REAL TEARS. I STILL THINK ABOUT HER ALL THE TIME. Pumpkin was my dear baby girl, and I BETRAYED her, because I was a DUMBASS KID. RIP, Pumpkin. You were the best virtual dog any little girl has ever had. And like this comment if you, also, have been personally victimized by GameStop, in solidarity. EDIT: The overwhelming response to this comment inspired me, and I ended up buying a used copy of Nintendogs on eBay. Now I have a new cocker spaniel named Junie. THE LEGACY LIVES ON.

The way Nintendo put so much tender loving care to nintendogs and the DS and never did anything like it again is CRIMINAL. Like you had all these features and on top of that you would be rewarded for playing with others!! You could get the dogs from your friends version of the game if you played with them! The DS was so amazing at letting you connect with others and socialize in a way that no other electronic device has been able to do again and not because they can’t but because they’ve decided to monetize everything.

This video made me break out my old copy of Lab & Friends, and a couple of the dogs had been named after my first two dogs, who have both since passed away, and it was really nice to see them again. I made sure they all got fed and watered, got a bath, and got petted, and then I saved and turned the game off. Then you got to the bit about the Pet Hotel, and I went "yeah... I should probably drop them off there" and turned the game on to do just that. Turns out I had a fourth dog at the Hotel, so I brought him out and petted him after dropping off my other three dogs, and then went back to try and drop him off. Turns out you can't drop off all of your dogs, so one of them always has to stay alone at home. What this means for Eddy, though, is that he never could have put his dog up at the Dog Hotel before going to Orlando for the weekend, so that one's on Nintendo.

I wheezed laugh during the obedient trial bit, took me back to my frantic nine year old self who was just screaming at my dog to sit! Got in trouble once for yelling because my dog wouldn't perform any of the tricks.

My Tamogatchi died in the car during a family road trip. It was in my bag in the far back of the car, just far back enough to be impossible to grab but not impossible to hear beeping nonstop as its life faded over several minutes. I would've sworn back then I could hear my dad grinding his teeth in annoyance at the beeping.

For some reason, I still have my Nintendo DS and all my games. I’ve had it for…. Maybe 15 years? It’s survived 5 moves. We’re supposed to get snow tonight here so I guess it’s time for me to check in on all my nintendogs lol.

I remember moving to Chicago in 2007 and my grandma went EVERYWHERE trying to find a DS and the Nintendogs game to give me for Christmas… they were sold out everywhere. She did eventually find one (probably the last pink DS left in the city tbh) and I opened it on Christmas morning so happy. This video just unlocked that really good memory.

There was a hack in the game where you could play music for your dog right before you left and your dog would fall asleep and STAY ASLEEP until you came back the next time (even if that was months later). Your dog would still be dirty and hungry but at least they wouldn't run away and (if I remember correctly) not be angry at you

We had both the dogz & catz 2 on our pc when I was younger. It was cool to have the weird little cat or dog hanging while you did stuff on the computer. I remember installing them on every new pc my mom bought, until they were too old to work. Not all dogs looked quite that creepy, the cats looked slightly better overall, probably because it was released a little later. Really though, it was a program that was meant to run 24/7 on your pc, in the background, and along side your other programs, while also interacting with you and your mouse movements, ambitious for the mid 1990s. Considering how long ago it was, I wouldn't expect the graphics to be very good. Most full pc games didn't even have good graphics. 1:39

I’m an 06 kid so the hype around Nintendogs was kinda low when I was old enough to have a DS, but this really reminds me of the feature in Pokémon X&Y where you could similarly feed and play with your Pokémon. It was really emotionally engaging as a child and was a core memory for me
@Mads974159 ай бұрын
I LOVED this game as a kid! I also remember having the Windows Cats and Dogs as well. Another one of my favorite pet sims was the original Petz on DS where you play as a kid who gets their first dog and teaches it tricks, how to walk on a leash, and like house etiquette (couldn't think of another rule). I think I replayed that 3 or 4 times and I'll NEVER forget how my little sister wanted to play the game so she took it from me and DELETED my og dog that was a beagle named Brownie. I still haven't forgiven her lol (I mean I have but that is a VERY distinct memory). Also I still have Nintendogs and the nintendogs for 3ds and I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of them because they were absolutely two of my favorite games as a kid and this video is making me want to go check onto them😅

I love Nintendogs! I spent hundreds of hours in Dachshund & Friends. I had 3 huskies, all different. Marila, Juta, Ati. Obedience boss girl, agility star, and disk catching champ. They all were great at everything but had their own individual strengths and, as I like to believe, preferences. In-game time spent with each dog was in the 10s of hours. That’s hours individually playing, petting, training them. I love my nintendogs. I recorded a song on that music player for them. I believe I unlocked most of the toys too, besides some exclusives. I loved my nintendogs. I really miss them.

My favourite toy for my dog was the mario cart electric car. You could drive around and be inside the world together with your pup and make it chase you. Or use the tug rope to make my dogs hang onto it hanging free in the air and then swirling them around till it flinged them a couple meters away. They actually loved it, it was so much fun.

Believe it or not but at 22 years old, I'm holding my Tamagotchi in my hands as I started playing this video. She's 5 years old at the moment and 52lbs. I went on a date last night and during said date, my lil girl grew legs!!! Did you know that there was a Tamagotchi anime? It's rated 8.5 on IMDB surprisingly and I was very lucky to actually catch it as a kid. The only place I could find that it released outside of Japan was on one specific TV station we have here in Australia (9Go). Tamagotchi unfortunately isn't the powerhouse I wish it still could very well be if it were given the support it deserves. The sheer charm of social elements between these affordable personable little toys is amazing and when you were able to link it to apps to be able to marry your Tamas to other people's ones? That's so cute. I want more cute stuff like this, even if not especially as an adult. If you're also in Australia, I got mine from Target for $30 and love it. I highly recommend and I hope and pray that as time goes on, more and more social elements are revived with Tamagotchi for people of all ages to enjoy. Also I never had Nintendogs. I traded one of my Lego Ninjago sets for a tealish blue DSI with a school friend. He gave me the Iron Man game for the DS to go with it. Eventually I got a 3DS that I left behind at a motel I believe, rest in peace. My favourite game for it was Rayman Origins, but the feature I miss most is Streetpass. I wish more than anything that modern day phones would implement a friend making feature like Streetpass since I find meeting people as an adult really hard, and something cute like that to bump into little profiles of people who live close to me in my small town would be amazing!!!
