Being a long-time fan, it's amazing how much throw-backs this game had to their older games! NES SMB gameplay, Pauline returns, a DK-themed level, the musical numbers, it was pretty much validating fans investing in their history! The idea that any of these could happen within a mainline game was a pipe dream before, but now, it's no longer outlandish that I am Error guy, or Saria, or Midna, or Fi, can actually make an integral appearance in BotW 2. Odyssey isn't nostalgia bait, Odyssey was fan validation at its best.

There's always a LOT of room for improvement, but, as a fan of Nintendo and of video games in general, the Switch is my favorite console of all time. I think just the fact that it's SO good is the biggest unpredictable thing about the Switch. A very strong library of 1st party games; many fantastic ports from other systems of this gen, last gen, and some from way back; access to many of the great classic Nintendo games through Switch online (though I still miss VC); outstanding sales; and all of this on a hybrid console that just works so well (unless you have joy-con drift)... all after the train wreck (popularity-speaking) of the Wii U... I don't think anyone quite saw it coming. I understand people who mostly care about specs and hyper-realism, but for people like me who love Nintendo games and care most about gameplay, social experiences, and flexibility (especially as a parent)... I plan to keep buying games for my Switch and continue playing it for many years to come!
@randomguy9703 жыл бұрын
I think for me the biggest surprise has been how successful and mainstream the switch has become. After the Wii U I think we were all scared for Nintendo’s future, and I was the only person I knew who owned one. Growing up, all my friends were Xbox or Playstation, and the Wii felt like a novelty that no-one actually played. The Switch’s success and mainstream appeal is staggering to me. I’ve had so many friends who have no interest in gaming get one for BotW, Mario Odyssey or Smash, and then double then for Animal Crossing and the start of the pandemic. Whilst I’ve noticed friends also get PS4s, the Switch uptake in my circles are something else. Whilst I’m not surprised some of Nintendo’s crappier behaviours are still about, it does feel like Nintendo stepped into a new era with the Switch

I nearly gave up hope of it happening, but both Great Ace Attorney games getting officially localized into English has been almost unbelievably special, as someone that holds the entire series near and dear to my heart. And they managed to get a physical release outside of Japan on top of that, which hasn't happened for a Capcom-published Ace Attorney in 11 years! It's been a good time for long-desired official localizations in general, like Moon, the original SNES version of Trials of Mana (via Collection of Mana) and, as mentioned in the video, Famicom Detective Club and Fire Emblem.

I sorta prefer Wii Fit over Ring Fit... Am I alone on that one? I mean, it offered much more variety with the amount of content, especially in the Wii U game, which is the best Wii Fit by far. Having your Mii as the main character gives the game a more personal feel, instead of using some generic avatar figure. Speaking of Miis, it was super cool to see some of your creations, and some of your friends and family in the minigames rooting for you! It also had some extremely creative uses for the Wii Balance Board (and GamePad) that I've never seen before! Wuhu Island was also a really fun place to work out in, instead of some generic, forgettable RPG lands. The atmosphere in general in these games was also fairly distinct and unlike anything I've seen before.

Might get some fire for this, but honestly, NSO has been pretty magical imo. Not saying the service is perfect, but honestly, if they were to go virtual console and sell the games individually with the addition of save states, rewind, and online multiplayer, I feel people would spending much more on these games considering the price of 2 SNES games and an NES game on past VC services (without to QoL/online) adds up roughly to what you pay for a year of NSO. Plus localization

I think to go along with FF7 and FF8 being on a physical cart? I would also include FF9 being on physical as well. Some other things might include... Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, Witcher 3, DOOM and even Skyrim.

Great video. Touched a few topics I rarely think about. Personally I'm still sad we don't have OOT/MM and the Prime games on the switch e shop. And the original pokemon snap considering the sequel.

Funny is that if you got FE shadow dragon on your switch your switch and switch account is more valuable than other switch accounts

Smash Fans when Ultimate was new: "They could stop adding characters now and I would still be satisfied." Smash Fans now: "I will literally murder Sakurai's entire family if my preferred character doesn't get in."

Sora in Smash can go on this list now. Kingdom Hearts in general now has a very strong presence on the Switch, even though it never really had any presence beyond a few decent handheld games. Unfortunately, Cloud gaming is also a brand new addition from this generation

The only one you didn't mention, that I really feel needs to be on on this list is the SNES version of "Trials of Mana" getting an official translation. For fans of the Mana series, this was a big freaking deal.
