It was the final battle for them as much as it was for the main party 🔥 And it just feels that much more meaning and impactful if you took the the time to do all the side quests, hero quests, colony affinities and build and mend those relationships. You truly felt everyone's support, everyone's hopes and dreams riding on this battle, and they weren't just spectators or leaving everything in your hands. They wanted to fight as much as you did

I'm noticing an interesting parallel between the three main antagonists of the series (though I won't be surprised if anyone else sees it too). (spoilers for the Klaus Saga 🙃 below) Zanza, Amalthus, and Z represent the future, past, and present respectively. Zanza: Obsessed with controlling the future at all times and aims to be at one with the passage of fate. He accepts nothing less than knowing everything little thing that happens before it takes place. Amalthus: Haunted by the constant turmoil he sees in the world, including that which he has suffered himself (particularly as a child). He is incapable of moving on, stuck in the past, and feels that if he changes, he loses everything. Z: Obsessed with preserving the endless now. He desires to maintain this frozen, stable world out of fear for what could happen should time start again. If anyone has more to add to this, feel free.

Z (and Moebius as a whole really) represents peoples inability to let go, and I don't just mean the characters in the story. People always talk and rave about wanting to see the worlds that Shulk and Rex fought for, and Instead of Moving on and accepting that everyone got a happy ending they wanted *more*. All Z does after fusing the two worlds is watch people kill each other for thousands of years, the same characters, doing the same things over and over again. In a sense we, as the players are just like Moebuis; choosing to replay a video game however many times simply because we just can't move on from it.

We see it with joran who could of escaped but saved someone else therefore killing himself, chrys is implied to jump off the cliff in front of noah, shania shoots herself in the head. As for D I'm sure he probably started to get hunted down and took his life instead of letting them get to him. Especially since I feel like one of the heads he has is his previous lives head. Triton is odd but i feel as if he was a part of the city as someone who had alzheimers since as a consol he struggles to remember things, possibly ending up getting himself killed due to a situation he put himself in die to alzheimers. I also think that could be a reason he is so obsessed with pirates and the sea since alzheimers patients sometimes revert to a child like memory and stories of pirates and the sea would be nice for a kid.

See, I love how Z is... an intentionally shallow villain, but at the same time, a very realistic one, considering he is basically a force of human nature, his thought process genuinely is something that a lot of people struggle with... "Have you ever wished, that time would simply stop" It's a genuine thing that a lot of people go through, and the fact that this idea is holding back the world from progressing, and things of that nature. It's suuuuper interesting to me. Gotta say, for a "shallow villain" he's a really really good villain for what he is.

Z is simply a desire, a desire that is able to form in different ways inside different people who went through different experiences, which is why Moebius have so many different personalities and individual interests. He’s only shallow if you look at him alone, but desires are only shallow until you look at the way people use them. Z is Moebius and Moebius are the world itself, so when I look back at Z, I look back at what ties Moebius together rather than just at the guy watching a TV screen

@@emblemblade9245 One thing i like about Z and moebius outside of that is how (atleast how i see it after 3 years of drama class in high school) they represent different aspects of theatre, Z is the playwright, he doesn't get actively involved in the play itself just writing it, then you have X and Y who i see as the directors they are tasked with interpreting the playwrights vision and have an active role in managing the play, in this case Y sets up and manages the flame clocks while X invented and manages the rank system, the soldiers in aionios are like the actors, they just dont know it, they bring the script and directors directions to the stage. And who would the regular consuls represent then, I think they represent the audience watching and enjoying the play even getting involved to some extent which is similar (now im hoping that im remembering this right) poor theatre which has alot of audience and actor interaction, the fourth wall does not exist. All this probably matters little to anyone but it makes me like Z more because there's a symbolic reason he doesn't do anything until the end. plus you can't make just have a giant theatre stage without others drawing parallels.

@@adriahrin3284 Phase 1 is the hardest part because you're unable to Interlink and/or use Chain Attacks due to script purpose until the time comes. Phase 2 is almost impossible to lose as the Keves Trio have to be knocked down to 1 HP (your controlled character needs to regardless) for the Heroes/Heroines to show up. After the reinforcements show up, they'll all dogpile Z in Phase 2 and kill both parts of said Phase in little time meaning you just have to avoid having everyone that you control wipe out is all. Phase 3 returns to just your party + Melly and Nia and while it's a bit harder, Nia can pretty much keep your team alive if you prevent Z from killing your Defender(s) and Healer(s).

@@bitrel07 my experience with the fight is basically i had no problems with phase 1 and 2, but in phase 3 there's an AOE attack that does insane amount of damage and leaves all of my characters with little health left sometimes killing them, making it difficult or basically impossible if it kills both my healers

@@adriahrin3284 Phase 1 was just tedious because of the game's script of disabling Interlinking/Chain Attacks until the story re-enables them, after that Z's easier to handle because he loses his plot shield and mechanic protection. Phase 2 after the plot required 'defeat' aka he mops the floor with the Kevesi Trio at first, is nearly impossible to lose if you did every single Hero Quest (or did a non-named Ascension Quest in the case of trying to get Ethel to join in) as they will easily trash Z's second phase without your assistance (just don't try to intentionally lose, lol.) I didn't really find the third phase to be that hard unless Taion and Eunie (the normal two dedicated for Healers) Interlink and Z wipes out everyone else then he wipes both of them out once they cancel their Interlink.

I know they're mixed opinions on the fight itself, much like the final bosses in the previous games, but the scales, tension, urgency, the theme that's a mixture of a grand orchestral with sick guitar riffs, the Heroes coming to join you, the mechs Melia and Nia pilot to take down the Origin, then the Queens themselves coming down to help the party out... *THAT'S* what got me hyped during the finale. It wasn't just a fight that was personal for the main 6, it was a fight that was personal for the folks of the *entire world* .

While of course I cared about the world of xenoblade 3 i feel like this party really really resonated with me they all meant something to me at the beginning I fucking hated taion and thought lanz was a lil too cocky for my liking but they grow and the party starts to show their dynamics and personalities this was a fight to see their futures i wanted to see Noah and Mios future. It honestly broke my heart seeing them run to each other and slowly get farther from each other this fight was for the people I got to TRULY know to get what they wanted and goddamn did it feel so exciting I loved it. Also imma be real I didn’t know you could die in the parts where the party gets split up like I kept living at one hp I didn’t really feel like seeing if I could die in those parts but yeah I feel bad that people died during the final boss having to do it all over again

15 actually. - SPOILERS - Consul Z Normal, Consul Z Ice, Consul Z Fire, Consul Z Chain Attack (mostly cutscene) + Consul Z Actual Fight [4 Phases]; Moebius Z (first fight) 1 (starting spot), 2 (spot/phase change), 3 (spot/phase change) , [+3 Phases, Total 7]; Moebius X 1 Alone, 2 (Keves Heroes); Moebius Y 1 alone, 2 (Agnus Heroes) [+4 Phases, Total 11]; Final Moebius Z, 1 (starting stop again), 2 (spot/phase change), 3 (Final spot/phase change, Nia and Melia show up) [+4 Phases, 15 Total] Amazing Final Boss, and felt super incredible and exciting the whole way, even if it was extremely long. The difference in music is the "Phase 1" music plays up until Keves and Agnus Heroes show up, and that's when the "Phase 2" music begins playing.

@@Sherkel Technically yeah it could be considered 16, but I chose not to count the Chain Attack "Phase" as there's no real fighting. That's why I added a plus sign between those two to add them together, rather than a comma or semicolon to separate them. Any damage you do to him during this "phase" (From the first shield being brought up, to the last one being broken) Is automatically cancelled out by him healing for +/- the damage you dealt. Sometimes he heals for more, sometimes he heals for less so it cancels out. Because of the fact that you do no damage to him, plus the chain attacks having literally 0 effect mechanically, plus the amount of talking, I consider the Chain Attack portion of the fight to be more like an in-battle cutscene. It's similar to how Melia and Nia showing up are in-battle cutscenes. You lose control of the camera, there's some dialogue and fancy movement, then the fight continues. Thanks for reply though!

Z’s idea of thought-provoking just being him sitting in an imaginary theater watching the same people fight the same battles for over 1,000 years while going “dude bro this is so fucking kino bro this is peak fiction” is so perfect. Honestly yeah, I used to really dislike Z as a villain because of how shallow he was until I gave it some thought. Z is just a concept, a mere human emotion given form. Of course he's going to be shallow. Because that's literally all he's capable of being. I also love that his desire for the "endless now" stems from humanity's desire to, y'know, not die. Fits well with Xenoblade 3's themes of life. Overall I think Z was a well-executed antagonist that gets too much hate because he doesn't have nearly as much stage presence as antagonists like Zanza, Amalthus or Malos.

But whenever your only directive is to “solve humanity’s fear of the future” what else are you going to do? He’s intentionally shallow because its all he understands and knows. He’s like if you told an AI “Make people smile”- An AI doesn’t understand emotion, morals, or ethics. It only understands its directive. It’ll sew your mouth into a smile, threaten you with death if you don’t smile, even leak happy chemicals into the atmosphere to follow its orders. Because that’s all it knows and understands. Of course, Z wasn’t exactly given a directive, rather he just misinterpreted billions of humans singular common emotion of “Fear of the future” as us wishing things would never change.

The inability to move forward, to relive the same day, to hold on to your happiness for all eternity, "the endless now" is what we all desire at some point in our life, sometimes driving ourselves to desperation, "I hate it, I hate it, I hate it!", I'm sure we've or will experience a similar feeling, perhaps even multiple times. Z and Moebius may be shallow, but that's what makes them to me so good, not only that but the Moebius we know the backstories off seem to have become Moebius when they were at their lowest, while given the chance to become something greater, of course they will fight to protect what they've achieved, we would've been the same. The desire to stop the world, to have infinite fun, to have the time to explore every single bit the world can offer. That's my interpretation at least, and that's what to me makes both Moebius and Z such good villains.

Getting the accessory that lets a non healer perform a revive will come in clutch if you don’t over level three fight. Having that extra revive available is huge. Also using the follow the leader command to get your party to avoid certain telegraphed aoe attacks is very useful for this boss.

I genuinely think that Z may be one of the greatest antagonists in all of fiction not because of what he does, but how he manages to represent the personal struggles that all of the protagonists have gone through and managing to integrate it through gameplay; at the start of the fight, Ouroboros was shackled by Z and couldn't access their abilities or Chain Attack, which represented how Z had shackled their lives through despair so that they can embrace the desire for now. But as soon as the members of Ouroboros were able to display their growth past their traumas, they were able to fight back against Z and push him into the corner. In that fashion, the blaze of life fights back against despair of the future and gives the strength to be needed to walk forwards. Absolutely wonderful symbolism that ties in wonderfully to the plot

Z through traditional lenses may look weak as a character and unappealing, but look at them as a manifestation of each of the characters' doubts and worries about the future and suddenly his character makes a lot more sense. Z is the literal manifestation of traumas, worries and doubts of the future and has acted as that shadow over everyone, and those doubts about the future and the option to feel secure about ourselves now at the cost of not being able to move on is how they operate. It's depth in a way that is not common to see in media because stories commonly focus on villains as needing to act for themselves to stand out, but Z is unique in the sense that they stand out because of how their strength is rooted within the characters struggles against their thoughts and doubts. I would be completely happy to see more villains like Z because they end up bringing unique takes to stories by making them more based around resolving inner conflict in a symbolic and philosophical way that is rarely seen in these types of stories

If I wanted a villain that shallow and pathetic, I would play pokemon. Him being a manifestation of people's fears is not a problem, but not having a motive and screwing around like a childish saturday morning villain does not work in xenoblade. Even a character like Mumkhar, who is arguably a very bad person, is driven by jealousy, anger and glory. Human emotions and human characteristics that make him more compelling than Z. For someone who is supposedly representing the essence of humanity, there's very little "human" aspects in him. Also would it kill you to write in paragraphs?

This battle was cinematic, epic and actually tough, holy shit. Zanza was not that tough in XC1 and Aion was a joke in XC2, but Z actually almost kicked my ass multiple times, but I managed to survive and recover which made this battle fucking epic for me. Specially because I fought with the initial classes (Swordfighter, Zephyr, Medic Gunner, Tactician, Heavy Guard and Ogre) with Riku and Manana as Heroes while I played on Hard; I wanted to make this battle as cinematic and personal as possible. Z might've been a dissapointing and flat villain, but holy shit his battle and OST were fucking incredible.

In my hubris I went into this battle on hard mode since all the previous battles had been pretty easy. I was underleveled and wanted to try beating the final boss with everyone on their default "canonical" classes. 70 minutes into this fight, my party members were getting one shot, left and right. I was 1 or 2 mistakes away from wiping completely and losing over an hour of progress. It was then that this part 1:37 of the music kicked in. That was the most hype moment I've ever had in a game.

I think the design of the final boss is fine personally. It drives home what Z is, and honestly it’s not like other final boss designs in the series are all that much more insane. But the scope of the battle, the scale of it, now that is what I’m here to see in a xenoblade game, and this one, much like 1 and 2, nailed that feeling of “the whole world is going down if we don’t do this now.” (Which by the way is what I think makes xenoblade 2’s final boss work so well. Not so much Aion itself.)

They really wanted to make sure the final boss is impactful, not only in terms of music but also the stage and direction. Love the detail with Melia and Nia fighting in the skybox before they actually join you. For the finale of the trilogy, having both worlds come together in a fight like this is a great way to end it. The setting and the music in this fight were amazing, beginning with a slow pace like it's a dialogue between moebius and everyone and their answers starts at the riff accepting how weak they are and determined to surpass themselves knowing that they carry the hope of everyone who died for it. Though I would've hoped that they bring more informations about Moebius despite the fact that this is a concept brought by humanity to protect itself since we know that they have different personalities and created this system for thousand of years. Let's hope the dlcs bring more to the table otherwise it was a wonderful game felt more realistic than the others by how they wrote the characters

I understand what they where going for and even though I loved the game and the ending was the best for me in the series, yeah, this one has definitely the weakest antagonist of the trilogy. But everything else about the game outshines it

​@@windy4566 Yeah the concept behind him is nice, but I feel like there were no real personal stakes in the fight. The only thing we got was the N&M sacrifice really, who were already pretty much "dead" at this point anyway. Other than that it was just a grand spectacle, but it felt pretty hollow. What I found weird is that the whole 2 worlds seperating topic was never brought up until after the fight. Him trying to convince Noah that he will lose and forget Mio (and the other Agnians) if they succeed could provide a really nice dilemma with a callback to N's meeting with Z. Noah ultimately deciding to let Mio go could have been quite a powerful moment during the final fight.

I love this fight until Eunie and Taion got hit with an AOE attack and died in one hit meaning I couldn’t revive anymore so I had to do everything over again.

That happened to me once but then I realized making Sena and Lanz stand off to the side in ouroboros would make him miss basically everyone else as he tried to kill them. (That and having one of them as a signifer made it super easy)

Yeah whenever my healers went into ouroborus during p2 we would get wiped. My fault for only having glass cannons save for Monica xD
