You eventually run into the kingdom of Vanda and find out Culex is the main boss.

No, what's written into the code is the protection the left eye provides ending when the eye is disabled. What they didn't account for was they also made it disable the code that protects bosses from Geno Whirl's 9,999 hit.

It’s too Typical and boring to always use the same characters. The game is Super Mario originally, not super Luigi. They intended to do something quite different by adding Mallow and Geno instead of Luigi and Toad. Toad in the cartoon and in the RPG game like all the Toadstools are Cowards. It’s also one of first games where the main protagonist Bowser joins Mario to defeat a more terrible threat. It holds the concept of an enemy of my enemy is my friend. These things are what make it interesting and exciting. I guess it’s natural to ponder where is Luigi is. They can’t satisfy some people regardless though, and there are always people who are unsatisfied. Bottom line is if they did what you wanted they’d lose more business in profit sales. They did everything they were supposed to do with this game.

It's pronounced "Cue-lex," (like "cube") and "Peach's xxx" in Japan doesn't necessarily mean something dirty as basically it means the same as "Peach's ???" Also Punchinello was still Punchinello in the SNES original, he was only considered James Bomb by the localizer prerelease.

there's a few more secrets, if you return to Star Hill after playing the post game content and read the wishes of the defeated enemies they'll be different. Loved this game 27 years ago and now, still have my game cartridge I bought from the video store :D

Luigi wasn't a character in the SNES game because of limited space, in which they crammed an incredible amount of content into. I think making Mario so smol and short pretty much kept them from just doing a red/green palette swap. When working with such limited resources they had to make clever choices like making his head 50% of his body to be able to convey as much expression with the least amount of pixels.
