I object to the idea that leaving space for houses to have yards and such "wastes usable land". Isn't the point of designing your island to do it as you like? I personally really like my village be spread out and each villager having a cute little yard that fits their personality and interests.

I agree! But I just mapped out this massive estate idea that gives each islander 8 fruit trees, a 5x5 flower patch, bush walkway and a little yard decor space. It ended up taking up more than an acre and I'm like holy smokes I don't have this kind of space. But... it's such a cute idea so I'm torn.

going to harvey's island really helps you design interiors because you can use any furniture you've ever had & you can customize things too without actually wasting your kits. it's really nice to be able to do that & it's very helpful in putting a room together bc you can visually play around with walls, floors & furniture.
@Toshikochan04 жыл бұрын

@Marcelasvideos4 жыл бұрын
I don’t know how do I use that island
@shinryouzen4 жыл бұрын
Same I legit use Harv’s island as a practice to design my home. It’s super helpful since you get unlimited supply of stuff you already have so you can also plan out how much your interior home would cost in terms of furniture and wallpaper. And whenever I get a bunch of new stuff I go back to Harv’s island and see where I can fit them for my future home. All rooms for my home interior design is pretty much settled in Harv’s studio so I’m finishing up my island itself first while I wait for my debt to be paid so I can get enough rooms.
@bleebleeblahblah4 жыл бұрын
I do that but by using the (happy home designer button) [aka down arrow on the left control ]. You can move items right from your storage to wherever you would like. When you're in your storage screen, press left controller down arrow button and You'll be amazed what you can do with it. Even press 'Y' button to return items directly to your storage. Bypasses taking up pocket space. Sorry if I made it more confusing.
@laureymartino4 жыл бұрын
@@bleebleeblahblah yeah that's true, but with harvey you can change colors of furniture without wasting kits if you decide on something different & you can use furniture, walls, floors, etc. that you don't actually have in storage. so you can play around with everything you've ever gotten, not just what you have stored in your inventory.

I'd also like to answer the question of "why is everyone's islands look bigger than mine" based on my experience First, is the effect of familiarity. Think about it. you live in your own island long enough to know everything about it, and every nook and cranny (excuse the pun) about it. Whereas visiting someone else's island, it's not familiar to you. It's an undiscovered land waiting to be seen. Heck. you'd even get lost in it sometimes. And let's not forget that anyone's island is constantly changing, which means more means of discovery. Hence why it feels larger. Another answer is the way you navigate throughout someone else's island. To me at least, an island feels larger because of the long winding paths I get to walk on some people's islands. It takes longer to go through the whole thing unlike, say, an island with-say-grid shaped roads, which seems easy and predictable to navigate. Those are my two cents, at least. Keep up the good work man!

Since Redd sells black market paintings, I made the route to his place really hard to find for others.

A friend from Sweden taught me a great trick last night. If you're visiting someone's island and see something you like just ask them to drop the item for you to pick up. Once you have it in your inventory you'll automatically be able to purchase it from your Nook Stop ATM. Then you just have to return the item and go home to buy it! I highly advise you only do this with people you trust though.

Just wanted to give some ideas for the person who asked for room suggestions: magic room, board game room, arcade, bar, ballroom, cosplay/closet room (one of my friends has this), music room, tea room, sewing/craft room, spa, restaurant/cafe (perfect for if you have more than one account playing on an island), office, library, school, flower/plant shop, space room, castle, baby room/nursery (idk, if you into that??), zodiac rooms, bamboo grove (my bf made his basement into a bamboo cave), mediation room, gym, pet/animal room, science lab, trophy room, an additional bedroom, themed room (just specific rooms based on holiday/collection items?), weapon/armor room, diner., etc. There's tons of things you can try, but it may be easiest to just go through the items in your catalog and thinks of themes that can go with stuff you've collected before. For example, I never planned on having a art room until I got the painter's set and the cartoonist set. I put out some blank qr codes on easels and paint splatters on the floor and just added other crafty items (like the clay modeling stuff, some pots). For a while I didn't have a lot of storage space so I put all the clothes I didn't wear on the walls of one room and added the loom, and sewing machines to make some sort of sewing room. Just have fun, it's not like you have to keep it that way forever!

P sure the reason we find other people’s islands bigger than our own is because unexplored areas tend to feel bigger/take longer to explore in general. we don’t know when it will end. When you are familiar with the area you have a better perception of how long it takes to go through it. Not to mention, on island tours you walk through each area much slower and take more time paying attention to the surroundings, so touring the island takes more time and focus, and thus feels more big and impressive. It’s a psychological thing, but good island layouts can definitely add on top of it (just like how the layout in IKEA are designed to make you take more time to go through every section etc)

Just wanna comment some things I did. 1. Sadly my secret beach is in the middle so I couldn't really do a boardwalk around it, but I did do something similar with one of my cliff tops, My island came with 2 high cliffs on the left and right sides I originally wanted this on the left which was past a little stone walk park I made and a cedar forest I planted. But I decided to move it to the other cliff top which happens to be north of my museum. Basic thing I was going for was to have like a clifftop bbq/grill location (I also have a smoker up there) Its also where I plan to put Brewster's cafe when it gets added. 2. Going back to that cedar tree forest, I had an idea of a dense forest surrounding a star shaped lake. I got said forest planted but I kept wondering what more I could do. A friend suggested a zen shrine, and I came across a video showing off an enchanted looking forest. So I might go for that theme. 3. I also mentioned a stonewalk part. I used the stone path for it and its on the westmost clifftop. Its got two lookout viewers and metal fencing on the left, a cotton candy stall, the tea cup ride in the middle, a jungle gym in the corner, and the stone table set on the right. 4. The most recent thing I did was set up an orchard. I already had something of one but it wasn't fenced in and was taking up space. So, north of the villagers living on the west side (right next to the cliff of the stonewalk park) I made a fruit tree orchard with wooden paths surrounding the trees and bordered by hedge fencing.

my kitchen finally came together today when a friend of mine made the ironwood table and low table (the cart thing) for me and it matches my kitchenette! so I have the main room, which is a living room, the kitchen is the backroom, I made the right room a bathroom, the left room a library/study area, and the upper floor is my bedroom! whenever I get the basement, I may make it a craft/games area bc I have a lot of sewing objects and some puzzles and board games

The patterns aren’t just for DIYs, a lot lot of them are DIYs, but there are other furniture that you can use the patterns on, like a table lamp or a zen cushion!

Thank you so much for all of your design ideas!! :) I've already followed some of your tips and my island is now 4 stars. Although I still feel like my island is a lot smaller than yours, which is maybe because I didn't use the terraforming tool a lot yet... it's so time consuming 🙈 I love that your island still looks "clean" and tidy compared to some other islands I've seen where I feel like there are just so many random items standing around and I personally really don't like that. So thanks again for explaining everything so well!
