I tried to mod the game so the headgear is somewhat present on each character's 3D model but that was way harder than I expected. It was out of the scope of my abilities tbh, so I atleast edited the character icons you see at the top right to include the headgear.

I was going to ask, glad you at least made an effort. Would be an interesting easter egg if you managed to beat them 100 times in Career mode and they'd actually get the headgear. That'd be so daunting cause each opponent is random but with their previous records, it might be viable. Hope modding for this game can get better cause there's So much potential hidden right under the surface. (including bringing back the proper Super Punch Out Little Mac instead of just recoloring him)

Contrary to popular belief, headgear makes boxing more dangerous for the wearer. In theory the added protection makes head blows less impactful, but that just encourages the opponent to hit harder. With the extra force behind each head blow the brain gets rattled more, so the person with the headgear is more likely to suffer from brain damage. All this to say, Little Mac’s opponents are gonna be all the poorer for following TD Glass Joe’s footsteps.

It's still against the rules to wear it if your opponent is not granted similar head covering so I guess it's probably more safer to just box helmetless 😅

Yeah it's a similar principle to bike helmets and more controversially, football helmets. they may protect the physical skull from impact, but it's the internals being rattled around that may make things more difficult for the wearer. Thus they're meant to help reduce fatal impact, but really not meant to be hit repeatedly or deliberately broken through. It'd only be good to wear in practice or when sparring with someone looking for technique.

To defeat TD King Hippo, you need to jab him in the jaw first, in order to have him let guard, twist and beat down the manholevand expose his stomach. Since in this challenge you cannot attack him in the face, it's literally impossible to defeat him.
