One thing I learned about the brute counter that made it way more usable is that the hitbox for the attack itself has more range than you'd think from the animation. It extends a decent bit past the arc of the swing itself, which is the only way to burst counter some attacks with it safely (namely grabs). Despite that I still agree with your order. I did pretty much my entire first playthrough with Brute, then did my next few to get to WoTN with Phantom, then did WoTN with Feral. Going from Brute to the others was awkward because a lot of attacks that I could just BC on reflex as soon as I saw them flash red now needed me to actually learn the timing (and there are some attacks that straight up can't be interrupted by the other two). Now I'm so used to using Phantom and Feral's counters that when I try to use Brute's I delay it longer than I need to for no reason, lol. For anyone that's just getting into Nioh 2 and sees this, I recommend picking either Feral or Phantom and then having your other spirit be Brute. That'll cover all your bases, Brute's the only one that's an interrupt, some attacks that can be "countered" are actually charge ups that then do something else that can't be parried by Feral or Phantom. They cover each other's weaknesses.

burst counter choice is mostly attached to your playing style.all are good in certain way. depends on who you encounter. Brute is good counter against slow-motion burst moves and your fighting style is to get close to enemy . Feral / Phantom is nice against charging enemies ( nightmare bringer for example) or dropping from above like angry bird or Nagamasa. Brute can be used as part of your combo while hitting humanoid enemies, it causes impressive damage to the enemy KI. lastly, Great video as usual :)

Id love to see a Video where you explain. what smithing skills to level up and how to get the most out of your title points. Otherwise great content, you really help a lot pf people who get back into the game or start playing the game for the first time.

Imo feral has the most utility outside of the counter. Namely that if you get winded, you can get out of dodge quickly with it (pun intended). Also if you’re using a slow weapon like the axe, you can take more opportunities to use a big unsafe move and instead of getting hit in your end lag, just dodge backwards/through them whatever.

I view them as an Attack, Dodge, and Block. Different enemies Burst with different timings, so each spirit is easily implemented on some, and less optimal against others. Waira is has a long animation and is easy for brute, feral has to wait a bit and meet in the middle of the attack. I enjoy using feral, but recently i have accepted another guardian, inheriting Phantom (and i Love it). By default, i enjoy atlas bear with my sword style, so i use Brute. With my yokai abilities set up to benefit stats and skills, Phantom works best for me as a secondary, using tengen as my back up. Although there are certain levels like Scrolls and such, where i KNOW feral would be used best, as i am comfortable with the timing. All in all, using ALL of them is the big brain play, so i have feral on *most of* my farm / scroll runs (LUCK).

I main Tonfa & love Ki damage to grapple. Any sets, guardian spirit, clan or skill you'd recommend? I'm about 30 levels into the under world

Very nice ki damage sets would be Takeminakata’s Grace and Ninigi’s Grace. Yumehami guardian spirit has 20% melee ki damage. Maeda clan for big damage grapples because of the defense lower on grapple. You can find scrolls or other sets that come with finishing flair because it gives increase damage on grapple, final blows etc.

@KingRedDiamondGaming perfect. That's the spirit & clan I use. And my scroll does have finishing flair. I'll keep an eye out for those sets. Is Under world the best place to find them?

@iBeTruckin yes because you can target farm those sets..each floor has a rotation of graces that are locked to specific floors. So all graces that drop on floor 1 will drop on floor 4 and it goes by 3. There’s a reddit post that gives you exactly which graces drop on which floors

I choose my spirit based off of Anima build up. I main Tonfa, so i use Feral 95% of the time. Phantom is my #2
